Unwrap My Heart: A Friends to Lovers Romance (Merryville High Book 1) Kindle Edition
Kicked out on her 18th birthday in the dead of winter, Brayleigh has nowhere to go but to her boyfriend's house. Too bad his prying questions lead to their breakup.
Now, she's all alone, pregnant by another man, and the father is threatening her at every turn. If she doesn’t give him what he wants, she won’t be reunited with her brother and foster sister. And she only has two weeks to make a decision.
With time running out, Brayleigh is desperate enough to consider a sketchy opportunity given by another woman at a shelter. She'll just need to show a little skin and turn a few tricks. Sounds easy enough…
Until her long-time crush spots her after a night out and makes her a proposition she can't refuse.
Zain doesn't know about her past or her current situation. When he finds out, will he be able to love her, or will he abandon her like everyone else?

Don't be fooled by the cutesy cover. The themes in Unwrap My Heart are extremely dark. Proceed with caution.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2019A passionate romance with undertones of abuse.
What starts as a basketball match and teenage angst quickly turns into abuse for Brayelan, a foster kid turned 18 and trying to find her way.
Although I thoroughly enjoyed the majority of the book, including the quirky writing style, I couldn’t manage to get past the sexual abuse that came and went throughout as the story unfolded.
Lifelong friends turn on one another, an unwilling teenager becomes pregnant, and eventually cooler minds prevail.
I would highly recommend this book, but only if abuse is something you can look beyond to see the full story of romance blooming between two love struck teenagers.
All the characters were well written and deserve their own special story. As for Braelyn and Zane you’ll have to read the story to discover if they find their own HEA...
- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2021I loved, loved, loved this YA Romance!! It deals with some heavy issues that many teenagers have to deal with in one way or another today.
The mc, Brayleigh, is a strong character who has had a harsh, unfair life. She struggles and fights through things, because of her little brother and wanting to take care of him. The other mc, Zain, loves Bray. He does everything he can to help her and stand by her. Both grow so much through the story, I think especially Zain, you can’t help but love him!!
This a beautifully written YA Romance!! The authors blend smoothly, like one person wrote this!! The characters, the dialogue…everything is so well written, and it makes for a wonderful story!!! The paperback is BEAUTIFULLY designed!! I already bought the next book, about the next couple, and can’t wait to get started on it!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2021None of the reviews mentioned the religious subplot, but it was strong. The main character's struggle with her belief feels like a main focus.
The story is well written, Brayleigh's life has been hard and heartbreaking and the romance is sweet.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2020One girl bullies another, and she gets her friends on board. It can make a person miserable, especially if they’re already suffering at home. Brayleigh’s life was hard from the start, and just when she thought she found some light, it got worse and continued on that trajectory. It made it hard for her to form female friendships. At least she has Zane's friendship which means the world to her.
I thought the authors wrote her story well, though I felt that the ending was a bit rushed. Overall, this is a good YA story that talks about dating, relationships, sexual abuse, and bullying. It won’t be an easy read because of the heavy material, but it’s an important one. A good blend of everything for every reader.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2021I have to say, when i picked up this book, i didn’t think it was going to be anything special. Boy, was I wrong! I couldn’t put it down. It’s chock full of triggers, so beware of that. But it’s also superbly written, full of well-fleshed-out characters and has a plot that will end up warming your heart (even if it douses it in ice water a few times along the way). I would be lying if I said I was anything less than severely impressed with this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2021When Zain gets in trouble and has to volunteer as punishment, he realizes Brayleigh (his best friend) needs his help more than anyone knows. She is reluctant to trust him, since she's so used to being let down and disappointed in the worst ways possible from everyone she knows. When they are finally free to do what they need to do, they realize that together, they can take this horrible situation Brayleigh has landed in and turn it into a positive one for many people.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2021I started this book and couldn't put it down. The characters are believable . The author takes you on the journey with the characters. I would recommend it.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2021I really wasn’t expecting the subject matter to be so dark in this book. But there are really dark elements to Brayleigh’s story. Be prepared for that! The story itself was pretty good. The plot was moving and heartbreaking all at once. This felt like a watered down version of an intense story. The book moved quickly and the characters weren’t completely believable. The conclusion to the story was rushed and left me wanting more info. Again, everything just felt watered down from what a great story could be. It could’ve been so much more, especially with the sensitive subject matter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!
Fast paced read. It was even better than I expected. Complicated issues are addressed in this story and it was well told ❤️
