About the author

Anthony Barbera is a novelist and composer with a lifelong passion for both storytelling and music. He began his creative journey as a film and commercial composer, earning his bachelor’s in music composition from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and later pursuing graduate studies at the University of Massachusetts, where his work was performed by the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra.
Yet it was storytelling that ultimately captured his heart. After guiding a group of young writers and actors in their first film, X Marks the Spot, Anthony turned to fiction with a focus on deeply human, faith-driven stories. His published novels include 'Catching Baby Moses', 'The First Rains of October', 'Jonah: In the Time of the Kings', 'Assurity: A Space Thriller', and 'Izzy the Bernese Mountain Dog'. His latest release, 'Elijah: Fire from Heaven, captures the courage and calling of one man who stood alone for the Living God.'

- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2025I really enjoyed reading this book!! Anthony takes characters that we know in the Bible and brings them to life, making them relatable. He seems to have done a great job with his research and it was very eye opening to get detailed descriptions of what it actually looked like during that time for battles to be waged and for cities to be under siege. I feel like I have a much better understanding of what the time period was like and helps me to understand the story on a deeper level. I can't wait to read the next book Elijah!!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2024Jonah's story in the Bible is awesome, and Anthony brings it to life in our imagination in a wonderful way! Thank you for being an author who publishes Christian novels with biblical scripture woven in.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2019I really enjoyed reading about Jonah. I realize that it is fictional, but little is known about the Prophet. I
enjoyed learning how Jonah might have ended in the belly of the whale. Through the messages from God, Jonah is able to change the hearts of kings. The historical and biblical events of those times show God's love for all people.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2024I love this story in the bible. Shows truly how magnificent our God really is. This book is very interesting and full of .... might have or could have happened. Just enough truth to a book of fiction to make you think and know our God is most powerful and True.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2024A solid, enjoyable story on Jonah, that points to our awesome God. I could easily imagine all the events and the voice of the Lord as He spoke to Jonah. Definitely recommend!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2016Wow! It’s so good! Not only did this book get me back into the habit of reading again, but took me on a wild adventure from Gath Hepher, to the sea, to the desert. I know the story of Jonah backwards and forwards; it’s one of my favorite Bible stories. However, this version gave me a different view of the story. It explored Jonah’s character, his family and friends, added depth to the story that most of us only know from text, and reminded me the trip from the sea to Nineveh was not easy for Jonah even if the Bible didn’t mention what the trip was like. It also reminded me that Jonah was never alone, not just because of his fiancé and his friend Amos who was also a prophet, but because God was involved and was protecting him all the way through.
On a personal level, this book reminded me the need I had to pray continually at a time when I wasn’t praying that much. It also reminded me that God is not about to leave me in the dust; He’s got me and is going to protect me, just as He did Jonah (hopefully fish aren’t involved this time).
It was so good a story that I felt sad finishing up the story. I highly recommend this book. Even if you know the story of Jonah already, like I did, this masterpiece is worth it. Reading it, you’ll either feel like you’re back in the Bible times or that the Bible has come to life around you. God bless you Anthony Barbera, and to all you readers, may God reach you through this story.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2024I've always loved the story of Jonah and was thrilled when I found this audiobook. However, there are areas where the narration is distorted with what sounds like issues with the narrator's microphone so there are certain words you don't hear and strange microphone sounds. I tried getting a refund but according to audible they don't grant them.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2019It was a good novel if you like gory war stories. It definitely took a lot of liberty with things that aren't in the Bible. It could have done without some of the profane language used in spots...after all, it is a Biblically based story.

5.0 out of 5 stars great story
This is my first novel by Anthony Barbera. I found it informative, easy to read and true to the story in scripture. I love the reflections on God’s goodness and willingness to forgive, despite some of the despicable acts of the Ninevites. This is such an important message for all believers.
