Lady Jocelyn Courts Blackmail : A Historical Regency Romance (Mischief Makers Book1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 114 ratings

She’s fiercely independent. He rejects involvement. Will their tangled webs of deceit unravel to reveal love?

London, 1811. Lady Jocelyn Graydon is no fool. But the clever heiress is still surprised when her disreputable cousin kidnaps and places her in an upmarket brothel to gain access to her fortune. So when a handsome nobleman arrives for his usual appointment, she persuades him to help her flee… with nary an item of clothing removed.

Viscount Adrian Stangate avoids affairs of the heart. But the crown spy’s search for a traitor offers a pleasant distraction when he rescues a young actress from a madam’s clutches. And though his feelings are firmly walled off to shield him from any compromise, he can’t shake the pretty woman’s visage from his thoughts.

At first grateful for his assistance, Jocelyn quickly becomes convinced the striking aristocrat is a villainous blackmailer. And Adrian is so completely taken by the stunning lady’s bold break-in to his study, he vows to discover who the real person is behind her beguiling smile.

Will the couple’s secrets be their undoing, or will they pay love’s ransom for a happily ever after?

If you like delightful characters, intriguing mysteries, and more than a dash of humor, then you’ll adore Margaret Bennett’s historical adventure.

As an avid reader, I became a fan of Georgette Heyer's Regency novels, then started writing Regency romance novels as a hobby. I particularly enjoy writing about strong, resourceful women in an age where it was thought that women were incapable of taking care of themselves and couldn't own property.

Kindle e-books have allowed me to grow as a writer. With each novel, I have made mistakes, but I have learned so much along the way. I like to read reviews from my readers and am thankful that they take the time to critique my work.

I am currently retired in beautiful Port Royal, SC, with my husband and our dog Sally, happily working away on my next novel.

All the elements of a good book, including a H and h who knows their own minds and a villain who got his comeuppance, and it was not squeaky clean, but it was clean

My all time favorite book!! Definitely my favorite by this author. Will be reading and rereading it often. I loved the female character being a light to his darkness. Something that he realizes and loves her for. Has just enough romance without being unclean. I love all her books but this is by far my favorite.

While I wouldn't say I think this breaks any molds re the regency books, or explores characters in depth, it is written well. And the two characters are absolutely followable. Is the mystery a little obvious? Yeah. Maybe she could ease up on the adjectives a hair, and replace it with a little bit of tension. But the right elements are all there. The heroine's fiesty quality is still believable. The hero's attraction/character seem so too. There is drama, that is largely earned. If the initial premise a bit out there. Overall solid.

I think that is why my complaints are so...so petty. It lacks a certain lack of fullness, like an apple pie bought by a good baker that is very acceptable, nothing like those cheap ones you get at the supermarket, and yet still telegraphs store bought somehow.

The book's very quality makes you long a bit for more. Yet will I read more of this author? Absolutely I will. She seems to like her heroes to be viscounts but that is at least more believable than Dukes, which seem to be more abundant than billionaires in some of these novels.

I had just finished another book and couldn’t decide what to read next.
.I am sure you all know were i am coming from so many books so little time 😉when i came across this Arthur and wasn’t disappointed.Loved the two main characters which is always a must for me and don’t want to give to much away but if you love a mystery spy etc then you can’t go wrong and it was just a lovely light escape clean reading.
This is going to be on my read again list as i read a book and enjoy it but wouldn’t read again where with this one I would which there are not many that get to go on my read list as i am a bit fuzzy.
This is an honest review and I don’t do many.
