Rubbing One Out Kindle Edition
Zoologist Ben Sinclair has a thing for quirky antiques. The brass lamp he purchased was supposed to be decorative. Interesting. A conversation piece. It wasn't supposed to contain - a person.
Now he's got an annoying yet tantalizing man living with him who knows nothing about personal boundaries. Plus, Ben has wishes to make before his genie disappears.
Except, Ben doesn't want Daeliel to disappear. Lithe, exotic, and other-worldly, Ben's never met anyone like him. It doesn't take long for the men to admit - and act on - the attraction between them.
When the zing turns into something deeper, they have to figure out how to get what they both wish for before Dae must leave.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2021Craving something romantic and fun? Susan Mac Nicol’s Rubbing One Out is the perfect sweet treat. An original and highly entertaining spin on Aladdin, I laughed, I cried, and was completely swept away by the creative way this adorable couple beats the odds to find their happily ever after.
Ben is an absolute doll of a man, and his personality is clear from the very first scene. As a zoo keeper of sea birds, his lighthearted row with Honey the penguin sets the stage for the humor which runs throughout this story. Ben loves his job, and has a great support network of friends, but at age thirty-two, he’s ready for something more.
A true romantic, Ben enjoys collecting antiques and cast-off items for the sense of history they provide. When he spots an old lamp at his favorite store, it sparks fond memories of antiquing with his parents, and reminds Ben of the fanciful tales his mother told him at bedtime. Hey, it can’t hurt to dream a little, and Ben’s got his fingers crossed that eventually a gorgeous man might pop out of that lamp!
Well Ben’s dreams do come true when Daeliel arrives. A gorgeous and exotic genie, who clearly returns Ben’s interest. Talk about looking for love in all the wrong places. If Ben knew all he needed to find the perfect guy, was to rub a magic lamp, I’m sure he’d have tried sooner!
Daeliel has a fascinating backstory, and this one will tug at your heartstrings. Everything Daeliel does is out of the goodness of his heart, and nobody is more deserving of unconditional love than this thoughtful, amiable guy.
The chemistry between these two is delightful, but it’s not just the obvious sexual attraction. As Ben and Daeliel get to know each other, and learn each other’s stories, they form a very special relationship. These are two wonderful people who deserve great things, and the way their tale plays out is ingenious and very clever.
Susan Mac Nicol’s writing is wonderfully descriptive. The scenes of Ben pondering his lamp purchase, and fantasizing about the dream man who might be inside it, are wonderful. And his reaction to having an actual genie appear from his impulse buy are clever and funny and beautifully written. I can just picture the rural village of Winchester, England, and the colorful folks who live there. Quirky and offbeat, serene and utterly charming, it’s the perfect backdrop for the romance between Ben and Daeliel.
I adore Susan Mac Nicol’s novels, and I’m struck once again by how thoroughly I got lost in Rubbing One Out. The messages she sends of unconditional love, kindness to our fellows, and finding the courage to follow our dreams, never get old. I just wish there was a magic lamp in every antique store, so there could be more people like Daeliel in this world.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2024This is a very sweet book. Ben a zoologist works at a small local zoo. He also is an collector of odd things that catch his eye. One day at an antique shop he finds an old oil lamp. After he goes to bed he hears chimes and investigates. He finds a stranger in his home, Dae who claims he is a Djinn and granting him two wishes. Ben thinks he is dreaming and eventually goes back to bed. This takes you on a mystical adventure where Ben tries to figure out what he should wish and Dae is a cynical sarcastic magical prisoner. It is funny, has animals and romantic.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2024This book was delightful. I had so many smiles, giggles, and outright laughter at this tale of Ben, a zoo worker, and Dae, a Djinn (genie to most of us) conjured from his lamp when Ben rubbed it (of course he did, can’t get a Djinn without that action). Ben is entitled to two wishes, maybe a third if he’s lucky, but he can’t figure out what to wish for. As he tries to figure it out, Ben and Dae find themselves attracted to each other, which evolves into some fun times while pondering on wishes. As time is running out on the wish clock, feelings must be weighed, consequences and possibilities considered, and chances taken to have both their wishes come true.
There is so much humor in this book, both main characters are so adorable and interesting, supporting characters just add to the joy in this story, Dae’s magic is well-meaning but he misses the subtleties at times, and Ben’s interactions with the zoo animals is so sweet and caring. I especially enjoyed the reappearance of Pookums the Guinea pig and Ben helping Sammy.
If you want a fairly short, light-hearted, enjoyable read, I highly recommend this book. This one will be on my reread list when I need a pick-me-up.
I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary review.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2021Ben spends his days at the zoo looking after some funny but annoying penguins he also has a love for antiques but and unusual lamp is about to bring allot more to his life.
Dae feel for the wrong person and ended up as a genie and his new owner won't ask for any wishes so he can leave but after spending time with Ben he doesn't want to go back can Ben make his wishes count so they can be together. This book had some funny moments, the two guys had good chemistry my only complaint the beginning started out a little slow but this is my personal opinion still a good read.
I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book via Booksprout and this is my honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2021This book was absolutely delightful. I loved Dae (djinn) and I loved Ben. They were so cute together as well as they were humorous. My favorite part of the story is when Dae had made the animals talk to Ben in the zoo. That was hilarious. The writing was well done and the characters were interesting and very likable. Very enjoyable and entertaining.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2023“What part of ‘Hello. I’m a Djinn here to grant you two wishes’ do you not understand, you moronic son of a beaver? Until I grant you your wishes, I’m here to stay.”
I loved this book. This is the first Djinn romance I've ever read and I was all for it. Great world building and I loved the characters. It was a lot of fun being in Ben's head and I oftentimes found him very amusing.
“Calm down, you. It’s an old oil lamp, not a naked Tom Hiddleston. There’s no need for that kind of reaction.”
Ben bought an antique lamp in an antiques shop. Having been awakened by the sounds of chimes in the middle of the night and found the lamp smoking, he rubbed it and was shocked when a gorgeous half naked man appeared in his house claiming to be a Djinn. Ben was sure he was dreaming, until the man was still there in the morning. I really liked Daeliel, and it was fascinating to learn about him/his predicament and separate myth from reality. Their attraction to each other was mutual. I loved seeing how their relationship would go and was hooked to the story. This is the first book I've read by this author and I will definitely be reading more. 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Sexy Escapism
This book was loosely based on a fairy tale, Aladdin but definitely for adults. I found it lol hilarious, Ben a Zoologist who worked at a zoo and looked after the penguins and seals, was browsing in his local antique shop when he was drawn towards an old brass lamp and just had to buy it. Of course he tries rubbing it, as you do, and gets more than he bargained for when a gorgeous man appears and tells Ben he has two wishes, as opposed to the normal three we have always been led to believe!
Ben cannot think of any wishes and doesn’t want to waste them so he says he will have to think carefully before wishing. The longer Daeliel or Dae as Ben calls him stays with him the more he likes having him around and Dae isn’t keen on being back in the lamp either! As with all good fairy stories they fall in love but how can be together, Ben putting off wishing isn’t going to work when they discover there is a time limit on wishes.
There are some hilarious moments in this book, Dae is sarcastic, snarky and funny and some of his magic tricks had me lol especially on the ghost train ride!
If you want a fun, no angst read I would recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Story
The title alone, after a good chuckle, made me decide that I had to read this story. It's light, fun, and cozy, with a wee smattering of angst, but an hea seemed likely. Dae is magnificent, cheeky, and charismatic. Ben, who works with penguins *insert squeal of delight here*, is a happy young fellow who lives quietly, that is until a Jinn explodes into his life. Just an adorable read, thoroughly enjoyed it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sarcastic Dijinn meets sappy Zoologist (trust me it works)
Dae in serving out his time locked in a lamp, for a crime he was not guilty of.
He is sarcastic and witty and wants nothing more than to go home.
Ben works at the local zoo. He loves his cheeky naughty penguins. He also loves old quirky things.
So when he comes across a real Aladdin’s lamp he has to buy it.
How will this sarcastic Dijinn and this caring zoologist get on while Ben decides what wishes he wants granted.
Susan Mac Nicol does it again.
In a fun filled story that is a must read for all mm story fans.
