Serendipity: Yule & Enchantments Kindle Edition

3.8 out of 5 stars 24 ratings

Seren Starlight isn’t your average witch. At 26 she’s yet to graduate from the esteemed senior academy of witchcraft because she refuses to obey the rules.

A magnet for misadventure, things always go wrong around her. She doesn’t realise the consequences of talking back to the principal sorcerer until she receives a rather stinging lesson.'

Destiny takes Seren on a series of Yuletide exploits during the Winter Solstice and she stumbles through them thanks to a string of happy accidents.

Seren by name. Dippy in nature. Serendipity through fate.

Each Serendipity book is a complete story in the humorous misadventures of Seren Starlight, but there is an arc of mystery and romance which develops throughout this planned eight books series. Each book coincides with one of the sabbats of the wheel of the year and will be released roughly every six weeks. Since there is a mild Welsh theme, they are written in British English.

Poppy Flynn was born in Buckinghamshire, UK and moved to Wales at eight years old with parents who wanted to live the 'self-sufficiency' lifestyle.

Today she still lives in rural Wales and is married with six children.

Poppy's love of reading and writing stemmed from her parents’ encouragement and the fact that they didn't have a television in the house.

"When you're surrounded by fields, cows and sheep, no neighbours, no TV and the closest tiny village is four miles away, there's a certain limit to your options, but with books your adventures and your horizons are endless."

There is no sex in this book. I didn't even miss it. The chemistry and connection between the characters is fabulous. I really can appreciate a thoughtful partner like Siarl for our lost witch Seren. I suspected I missed some sort of prequel and that will be my next read (currently in an anthology as of this review) So, the story, seemingly ne'er do well wayward witch Seren can't seem to graduate from the academy she has been a ward of since childhood. We soon find it's not for lack of skill but a possible conspiracy against the special witch. The rule abiding principal is forced to spend time with her as the school is attacked and they have to work together before time runs out. Seren innocently dispels Siarls pre conceived notions and he learns there is more to her than meets the eye. Talent and unfortunately loneliness and pain. They're the perfect balm for each others limits. I really enjoyed this and looking forward to the next installment already!

This was a really fun story. A nice change from the typical romance books I've been reading lately. I absolutely adored Seren. She was spunky and smart and so much more powerful in the witching world than people give her credit for. I like that Siarl, even though he was a play by the rules buttoned up kind of guy, was able to see past her reputation to the girl she really was. He believed in her even when she didn't believe in herself. I enjoyed this book, although it was a little hard to follow in a few parts. It was a fun story and has a HEA but the author leaves it open for a sequel.

Seren has been a ward of the academy since the age of 10 when her parents disappeared. Over the years she was known for being accident prone and shunned by everyone. She spent her holidays alone at the academy except for her chaperone. I quit reading when I got to the part about the spankings, not something I care to read about. I mean come on he was her principal and spanking her and I quote "He had at least left her with the questionable modesty of her skimpy little thong, for what it was worth."

This is the second book of this new series. Seren is a young witch who has been labelled as a disaster. But, Siarl, the principal at the academy, comes to learn that maybe Seren is better at witchcraft than everyone thinks. The two of them have to save the academy from the dark and Siarl sees that Seren has been underestimated by everyone, including himself. I enjoyed this story and I am on to read the third book.

Seren wants to decorate for the Yule holiday but before she can finish everything goes wrong. Seren and Siarl are thrown together as they try to put the academy back together. I wasn't sure what to expect but I loved it. It was light hearted and made me happy reading it even though Seren and Siarl were figuring out how to fight dark magic. I can not wait to see what happens to Seren next. While this book is part of a series, I was able to enjoy it with out reading the first. It doesn't end on what I would consider a cliffhanger, the end does set up more to come.

The second book in the series is just as good as the first. It’s fun, flirty and frivolous within an action packed storyline. It’s the perfect fantasy escapism read.
Seren continues to be mischievous and it is enjoyable to read all about her escapades and adventures. There’s something magical about her optimism in the face of darkness. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
