But Airton harbors a secret. He is one of the Weredrivers, a driver gifted with the inner spirit of a beast designed to protect racers from unsafe conditions. Airton’s beast, Dragão, provides Airton with the hardened armor of a mythical dragon and the heightened senses of a wild creature, giving him supernatural driving skills.
But when a fellow driver dies, Airton glimpses ghostly specters swarming the crash site – and Basile may control the deadly creatures. Now Airton and Dragão must stop Basile and his track gremlins. . . before more drivers fall to Basile’s dangerous game.

About the author

R. A. Meenan was born in London during the golden age of science fiction, and learned from the best and brightest authors of that time (though if you asked her, she'd call this "college" or "getting a degree" or some nonsense).
Now an adult, she uses her incredible imagination to ride-hop intergalactic military spacecraft, comb the outer reaches of space and time, and write science fiction and contemporary fantasy stories based on her experiences. She's also hoping to find the perfect cup of coffee and a better way to grow dinosaurs. Her books tell the experiences of anthropomorphic and furry military personnel and race driver shifters.
She lives with her wonderful husband and the pair have four furry children (which are really cats, but don't tell them that) and one human child named after a video game character. She also spends her spare time teaching essay-writing haters, molding them into people resembling Actual Students and Lovers of English.
She may not win the hearts of stiff military men or students who want good grades for no effort, but she certainly captures the spirit and imagination of time travelers, magic users, nerds, Students-In-Training, and fantasy lovers.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2016While most urban fantasy takes us to the shady places of the city, Deadly Victory takes us deep into Formula One racing. Not only do we have the competitive drivers and teams, but the shady sponsors who may or may not have made deals with monsters.
Our hero is a top driver, but he's also developing a sort of spirit dragon that he can shift into, werewolf-style. The dragon has a mind of its own. The other drivers may or may not be developing their own creatures, but only our hero can see and respond to the monsters that feed on the spots on the track where a racer has died. And the monsters can't wait for more people to die. Coupled with the already-dangerous sport of Formula One racing, this means lots more death and destruction. Unless our hero and his dragon can find a way to defeat the monsters.
This was a fascinating addition to the urban fantasy genre. While not a racing fan, I found myself drawn in by the racing + supernatural elements. I hope the author expands this into a series, because it's an excellent spin on a crowded genre.
