Jolt Somber (Cyborg Awakenings Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 126 ratings

Jolt Somber was the name the cyborg picked for himself. He was created to be a killer and his creators reinforced his killer instinct by flooding him with feel-good endorphins. For eighty years he fought the Mesaarkans at Vyken Dark’s side. He and four genetic cyborg brothers returned to Earth to help restore civilization after the war had ended. Jolt is supervising demolition in the ruins of Farringay to build a new starport. The war left Earth in ruins with cities ruled by overlords with gangs of thugs as enforcers. Violence against women is rampant. When Jolt finds his one genetic female mate used and left for dead by gangers, the pleasure he takes in avenging her could have unexpected repercussions. After what males had done to her, would she ever accept Jolt as her mate?

On one hand, this is a fabulous mix of rebuilding after a Space War and moments of steamy sensual pleasure. It is also the attempt to return from war to normalcy, only truly ending the war and returning to peace is not easy, especially since the local gangs and warlords do not wish to relinquish their control of the cities.
The Cyborg Jolt Somber senses his mate, only she is very close to dying. Upon finding her and taking her to safety, he collects the four sources of DNA that her attackers had left, hunts down the Cretans, and slowly kills them. Jolt is a cyborg of many layers. He can be gentle and loving or he can brutal and lethal.
What he truly wants is to live a happy life with his beloved. Only he must give her time to heal. And even when she does heal, it is possible that she might not want him. To find out, you’ll have to read this wonderful book.

Liked the continuation of Cyborg Awakenings series.

I enjoyed this book. How can a woman not enjoy hunky big guys who are dedicated to their women? A happily ever after doesn’t hurt either. Next in series here I come.

I liked this book so much more than book 1. Jolt was so hot and I liked his whole attitude about trying to save the earth. I’m glad I stuck with the series.

Short fast read. You could probably read this as a stand-alone but you’ll get more from the story if you read book one first. IIRC there was also a prequel. The story takes place on earth after a war wiped out civilization. Jolt Somber is a cyborg that was a warrior, bred to kill the enemy. He is clearing some old buildings to make way for a spaceport when he discovers a woman who has been raped and left for dead. He recognizes her as his genetic mate and saves and avenges her.

I thought the whole issue of the rape was covered well enough without dealing with details so there shouldn’t be a trigger. I also really appreciated that the author didn’t suddenly make her settle into life with knowledge that she couldn’t have (she wasn’t used to getting enough to eat and couldn’t read and write). It felt very plausible. Fun read. Looking forward to more in this world. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).

So glad to see that Jolt got his forever female. Of course you have to take the good with the bad. Read to find out what!
