Janina Carol (J.C.) Seal

I come from the beautiful city of Freiburg, at the foot of the Black Forest. I live in a small townhouse with my loving husband, my wonderful teenage daughter and my twenty year old tomcat. To earn a living, I work part-time as a technical assistant in cancer research. I didn't start writing until October 2018 but have always loved reading.

Perhaps you are wondering why someone from Germany writes in English? I still remember the first English book I ever read. When I was in the US as an exchange student at sixteen, I picked a random book in a public library and came across “Dragonsong” by Anne McCaffrey. It was the beginning of my passion for stories that go beyond the boundaries of the mortal world, and also the beginning of my love for a language so much more expressive than my own.

When I finally took the step from reader to author, the choice of language was not an issue.

Accompany me into my world of fantasy, adventure and mystery, paranormal and romance.

When I'm not writing or reading, I like to play computer games or watch crime series on television. I'm also on the parents' council of my daughter's school and a member of the garden club around the corner.

The power of the mind is dangerous
If we convince ourselves of something, that thing will haunt us for the rest of our lives. That's not only true in real life but something that is subtlety told to you throughout this entire book. The mystery of the Virgin's Curse grabs you with its vageness and doesn't leave you alone until the very last page. You form your theories and think you have everything figured out until something happens and you start doubting your theories. That is very much what happens to Elena along the story. And by the end, when you have everything confirmed by the female's own thoughts it gets a bit annoying that she falls into the doubting cicle again. I wanted to enter the book and choke her Simpson's style until she saw reason, until I could slap her with the answers she already had. Putting aside my lack of patience with the protagonist, the plot flows like every mystery should, with each clue leading to the next while leaving you wondering if your theories are correct; which makes you read more and more. The characters are engaging and fully fleshed. And that sex scene... I don't know about the previous three books because I have yet to read them (So yes, this book can be read as a standalone without problems), but it's perfection and fitted the virginal theme of the book like a glove. The description style mixed the actions of the characters with the feelings/thoughts in a way that left me hot like any other erotica-styled scene. So, stop reading this and buy the Virgin's Curse! It has a good old mystery, a paranormal romance with a hot, sexy angel and the right amount of adventure to keep you reading until early in the morning.

Read this series. That is enough. Oh? You want a review too?
DO you have any idea how refreshing it was to read a series (Angels & Demons) that wasn't based around sex??? Yes, this is titled the Virgin's Curse. But Normally whenever a great book has tie-ins to gods, goddesses, religions, ect there is going to be all kinds of getting busy in the midst of the world's problems needing to be solved or resolved.
Whenever a book is described to me as paranormal it is either going to be horror or horny. BUT finally, JC Seal comes along and gives me the best of both worlds.
Now, don't go calling me a hypocrite. "But you read and review spicy/steamy books all of the time."
Yes, that is true --I have done that just today BUT that doesn't mean I don't appreciate a great author who can tell a story with clothes on.

I quite liked this story that mixed Biblical legends and Greek gods. Curses, Greek island and a fated bond - three of my favourite pastimes - was why I picked up this book. The pace was good, kind of like Percy Jackson but without much battle scenes. The courtship between main 45yo characters was veeery long, but with a good reason (see title). It was so innocent that the MCs might as well been 20+. This is a book of the “they walk among us” variety, not aliens, but (mostly) Greek gods and angels and even Jesus who likes to call himself Jay. The instatravel of supernaturals - called flashing (and NO, it’s not what you think) - gave the book the Jumper movie feel. The hunt for Biblical artefacts reminded me of Brown’s The DaVinci Code. The book does touch on social issues like gambling and drug abuse, abandonment and parent-kids strained relations, but at the same time it managed to convey a certain naivete and hopefulness that love will conquer all. There is one surprising sex scene, but otherwise the book is clean and sweet. Recommended for lovers of gods and goddesses and angels fiction, slow burn adult romance and suited probably more for lapsed believers who know their Bible (and won’t be offended by it being spinned into fiction) rather than devout christians. Solid 4/5.

This book is my favorite of the series the author has published. Each story in the series has raised the bar and led to loftier expectations...and Seal has delivered.
The author's research into antiquity along with the ability to weave a believable storyline within history is to be commended. And believability is important in such an undertaking.
Seal was able to take my hand and lead me through her world. Every twist...every avenue...every step is carefully crafted to take the reader on a fantastic, literary journey.
Praise to JC Seal...superb story telling. 5 stars

Virgin's Curse is a standalone novel set in Seal's paranormal world of Angels and Demons.

Elena is a woman cursed, living a life in solitude until the day she takes a job at the University of Athens. There, she meets a man with whom she feels an instant connection. Together, they work to unravel the mysteries of her curse, and it takes them on a wild trip beyond their imagination.

Like the Angels and Demons trilogy, this is a fast-paced book, but instead of action, there is a mystery to be solved, and an intriguing investigation takes place. The characters are fabulous, and I particularly like that they are older than the usual cast, and how fantastically well they slot together. And as always, the mix of mythology and religion is incredibly well-thought-out and highly entertaining.

As a side note, Virgin's Curse works perfectly well on its own, but some characters part of this book are featured in the trilogy, so I think reading the trilogy first might make it even better. I really recommend this for any paranormal romance fan out there!

I thought this was a well-paced mystery novel. I really like the mix of mystery, paranormal and romance. The characters were well developed and likable. I tend to not get too engaged in mystery books and don't really formulate my own opinions of what is going on, but I couldn't help myself with this book. It pulled me in and I was quickly turning the pages to find out what was really going on. This follows the same world as Angles and Demons, but I read it as a stand-alone so it works perfectly well without reading the previous books, though now I want to read those too!

In VIRGIN’S CURSE, we meet Elena Cadaval who has been cursed in her youth and is hence studying archaeology and history to find a cure for herself. After accepting a chair to lecture at the University of Athens, she meets her assistant Cas Timaeus.

The mysterious man supports her in her quest but has secrets of his own. While Elena dives headlong into a world that seems beyond her imagination, she is not only confronted with having to bring the solution to her own problems to light but also with Cas’ secrets that could destroy her entire world!

This book centres around solving a mystery, whereas the Angels and Demons trilogy had more face-paced action. However, this doesn’t make VIRGIN’S CURSE any less of a page-turner. I was straining my brain alongside the characters to find out the hidden truths and I loved that this time, the characters are more mature in age.

Even though this book is a standalone, we do meet characters from the same world already introduced in the Angels & Demons trilogy and therefore, it should best be enjoyed in that order, too.

Suffice it to say that this book, the fourth I’ve read by this author, didn’t disappoint and put a special, unique spin on an already titillating story!
