In the new Natalie McMasters mystery, KILLERS!, that petite powerhouse heading Thomas Burns's series is back with a powerful opener that never lets go. This time she's determined to find the killer of her therapist friend and surrogate mom. Natalie has a complicated history, and is currently one third of a throuple. That leads to interesting complications and subplots while the twists escalate in several directions. Chasing clues and serial killers, stumbling across more dead bodies, there will be gunfights and a look into the world of BDSM before it's all finished. And how does the murder of an aged Chinaman from Alabama fit in? Burns explores it all, as Tai Chi and southern culture collide with a maniacal killer, a sexual sadist known as The Marquis. But he's not the only sicko Natalie and her team will encounter. Graphic and all too real, Killers! explores a vastly different world with non-stop action.

Killers! Is the 5th installment of Thomas Burns’ Natalie McMasters Mystery Series. While these titles are all technically stand alone novels, I do recommend reading them in order. Otherwise, the dynamics, relationships, and behaviors of some of the characters may not make much sense.
This story, like all the others before it, is a Dark Mystery with lots of twists and turns. Natalie’s friend and therapist, Rebecca has been murdered. For once, Nattie is on the offensive as she seeks the culprit, with Danny and MB to back her up. They are soon off to hunt the Marquis, whom they are sure is the killer. Lupe is left at home and rather than continue feeling left out, enlists Leon’s help to see how they can assist. Also assisting the hunt for the killer is Ye-Ye, Nattie’s Tai Chi master who may know the man behind Rebecca’s death.
As always seems to happen to Natalie and her crew, things get out of hand. Pick up a copy and read for yourself to find out how far out of hand and just what she has gotten herself into now. How does she get out of this one? How much collateral damage will there be this time around?
Killers! Is a dark, gritty, and riveting mystery. If you need trigger warnings, this book has them. Consider yourself warned. It’s a fast paced read and will keep you on your toes guessing what’s next.

Thomas Burns returns with another Natalie McMasters winner. Action explodes off the first page, when Natalie attends her friend’s funeral, only to see her friend’s murderer watching from the edge of the crowd. In that instant, Natalie knows she’s next on this serial killer’s list. Accompanied by an unlikely series of friends, she sets out to find and destroy this man known as The Marquis, before he can complete his destruction of those she loves. Burns builds the atmosphere and suspense through a variety of well-depicted, isolated settings. The headlong pace is relentless, rarely stopping for so much as a breather. Strong character development and a plot that doesn’t disappoint grab the reader from the first page and won’t let go. Ler's hope this isnt' the last Natalie McMasters mystery

This reader couldn’t put the book down.

I'm a fan of Burns's Nattie McMasters series but I have to say that Killers is the most intense and complex story of them all, a real page turner. Burns does an excellent job of weaving characters, perspectives and clues into a mystery that is far more than a whodunit--it's a nail biting crime story with villains around every corner. This novel is not for the squeamish, but if you enjoy tension, drama and mystery you'll love Killers.

I am not one who typically throws trigger warnings around, but this book ABSOLUTELY needs trigger warnings. We follow Natalie as she hunts down her nemesis who killed her best friend and is threatening to track down and murder her. There are several sex scenes, but they are either non-consensual or engaged in during attempts of the antagonist to manipulate women into joining his sex cult. There is also a very graphic scene where our nemesis climaxes over the body of a woman he just murdered.
All that said, it makes for a very interesting twist to the serial killer theme.
Good story, worth the read, but one needs to be ready for the sex violence.

Wham Bam! Killers! takes off like a rocket and never slows its pace. The story begins with Nattie McMasters at the funeral of her friend. While at the graveside, she sees the serial killer who murdered her friend. He's watching her and Nattie knows she's next on his list. She does her best not only to protect her family and friends, but to hunt down the evil villain known as The Marquis. Author Thomas Burns takes the reader on a wild ride, complete with non-stop action and intensity.

True to its name, this book focuses on killers who take sadistic pleasure in violence, abusive sex and shocking action though their motive remains obscure. The plot sounds promising in the beginning, with the burial of a dead body but it soon degenerates into a wild goose chase, with explicit sex scenes, which reveal the characters of Marquis, as well as Rebecca. Will Natalie succeed in finding the killer of her therapist and friend? Keep guessing!

Having read Stripper, I was quite familiar with the style of Burns but this book is packed with unpredictable action and that is what may keep the reader invested. If you like darker plots and grisly details, with abominable language, you might like this book. I heaved a sigh of relief that I could finish it. Such books don’t intrigue me.

This is part of a series and I think if I'd read the others I'd have understood this better. On its own it's still interesting, but some parts did confuse me.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Superb follow-on
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 10, 2021
Killers! is without any doubt the best so far in this series — the various points of view tie up loose ends with absolute flair while giving credence to the preceding plots. Once again, we follow more challenges faced by Natalie McMasters, her relentless struggle to live the life of her choice, her endless devotion to the people she loves, and the difficulties encountered from the so often narrow minded. Written from several character’s perspective, the chapters meld into excellence with action around every corner, and surprises leaving the reader engrossed. I have enjoyed every one of this series, and sincerely hope there will be more, though I had the feeling this could be the last as the perfect conclusion delivered with skill appeared to wrap everything up. I truly hope I am wrong. Another superb edition, well-written with panache, a riveting read not to be missed from a seriously talented author. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprising Plot Twists
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 21, 2022
I loved this well-written, fast-paced mystery mostly because it was character driven. Although Natalie – the main character - is young, she’s grown noticeably (character wise) since the first book in the series. It’s clear the decisions she makes are for the benefit of her family and that made the plot extremely believable and made me root for Natalie and her family. The dialogue is engaging and funny at times too and there are plot twists that I didn’t see coming. Definitely a great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best yet!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 13, 2021
I have been drawn in by this series from the beginning but this installment is the best yet. Full of suspense and excitement allowing the main characters to get stronger and the continuing story more exciting. A true page Turner with some loose ends tied up this book is a must read.
