From the Author

When my daughter was killed by her boyfriend in 2000, I began to research what happens next. It was a great comfort to learn that there is life after earth and the people we love are still very much involved with us. In 2017 I realized that I needed to write a book about a young woman who discovers she can communicate with the so-called dead. And then I realized that young woman was Jessica from my book, What She Saw. And then, I was told by three different mediums that my daughter, Jennifer, would be channeling the book through me.

What a wonderful book! After reading heavy, depressing, lame, or otherwise time-wasting books in my 2 book clubs for the past few years, I finally returned to the fun and fast-pasted writings of Sheila Lowe with “Proof of Life” in her Beyond the Veil series. I have read most of Ms. Lowe’s books and have thoroughly enjoyed all of them. In addition, I have most, if not all, of her Graphology books which are well-written, comprehensive, and excellent resources for anyone interested in learning about or advancing their knowledge of Handwriting Analysis.
That said, I so enjoyed “Proof of Life” that I am actually writing a review! To summarize: The plot was intriguing, the characters believable, and the writing itself engaging, fast paced and very well scripted. Ms. Lowe was able to re-awaken my quest for spiritual answers while entertaining my love of mystery in a thriller type book. She aptly portrayed the tension and realistic dialogues that can sometimes divide sisters. Her narratives of the growing relationship of Jessica’s love interest were convincing and exciting without making it into a romance novel. And the twists and turns of the mysteries and development of all of the other characters was right on. The short appearance of a German Shepard character, a frequent occurrence in Sheila’s books, was a big plus too! Ms. Lowe’s writing is creative, imaginative and so enjoyable to read!
Besides my book club books, I generally read physics, geology, other science books, alternative archeology, and history tomes. Sometimes I need a fun break from these types of heavies. “Proof of Life” was a perfect distraction for me, and I highly recommend it!

4 stars for Proof of Life (Beyond the Veil Book 2). While I'm not sure how I feel about the afterlife and contacting the dead, I do believe that we are often visited by our dearly departed. This book was a well written story about the afterlife, abused children and learning how to accept new unexpected 'gifts.'

An all around excellent, well written mystery, suspense novel. I like a book that, even if the story is beyond my understanding of life (speaking with the dead), is plausible. While reading this excellent book, you can suspend scepticism, and get pulled right into the story. I liked the main characters; they were real and had normal reactions to what came their way. Also, I appreciate a novel that's not full of fluff. Lately, I've noticed authors repeating unimportant things throughout the book (to the point of annoyance), this book, thankfully, does not use that "style". Ms. Lowe has a story to tell, and she does it well. Her own story at the end of the novel is equally interesting.

Jessica has been hearing voices and having spirits come to her since she was in a horrific accident that she actually died and came back from in a coma for a time but also lost her small son in. She is now an artist that creates small miniatures for museums and people who ask. She gets many requests from spirits who want to send their living loved one's messages from the other side. But now she is making crime scenes when she gets into some sort of trance from the other side. After helping her ex-boyfriend agent in solving a murder case, she has now got entangled in a missing child case. Many people don't believe in mediums or the spirit world. As her investigations unfolds for the missing boy, she meets a man, Sage Boles, who also has a mysterious past and interesting life and knows another medium that she is introduced to. She answers many questions and concerns for Jessica with her new lifestyle. I found this a very riveting story. I had a hard time putting it down. I was also very interested in the author's story. It made me believe what may lie on the other side of death. This isn't my usual genre of reading, but I just got so wrapped up in it, I want to read more books by her.

Jessica had been hearing voices ever since the accident that killed her son and she had been in a coma. Now the noise was beyond anything she imagined. Her ex boyfriend was FBI and was hunting a little boy, this would be her saving grace. She finally started to listen to the voices.

Having lost a child of my own in an automobile accident several years ago, I could certainly relate to the feelings of guilt and anger protagonist Jessica Mack feels after her child dies in an accident. And from time to time, I have felt or seen reminders that suggest that my daughter is still with me. I have not had the psychic experiences that Jessica comes to experience, but I do believe that others have had these experiences. And Jessica’s ability to assist the police with murder and kidnapping cases I know is controversial, but the road she takes to try to understand her abilities makes for an interesting read. My only problem with the book is actually my fault because I did not realize there was a prequel to this book though as I read, I realized through hints given in the book that there must have been an earlier book. I really wish I had read it first. But overall, very good…4 stars.

This book grabbed me right from the start and kept up the pace through to the end. Sheila Lowe is a very good writer and, in my opinion, unlike many female writers, doesn't get bogged down in long-winded dissertations about feelings, fashion or decore.

I never normally read fiction but I was compelled to read it in one sitting. The opening chapter draws you in, beautifully written, then such a change of tone and complexity as the spirit of Trey reveals itself. I hope the book reaches so many who will benefit from it
