Finding Home: A Grumpy Sunshine Small Town Romance Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 1,669 ratings

Home is where the heart is... but what if you have nothing to go home to?

When Jaxson Adams is forced out of the service on a medical discharge, he returns to his hometown to find that very little has changed. The problem is, he has.

He’s no longer the carefree, wild child he’d once been. He’s seen and done things most people couldn’t imagine. Not in their dreams… and not in their worst nightmares.

Even worse, he’s lost his sense of purpose. He doesn’t belong anymore. And no one understands.

Then he finds the letters. Letters that change everything he thought he knew about his family and provide a new mission—to discover the truth and right decades-old wrongs in the process.

Penny Hoffmeier is a romantic at heart, even if the only romance she sees is the stuff she makes herself. She takes great pleasure in creating the perfect bouquets for every occasion from her family’s florist shop in Sumneyville, PA.

She’s a lover, not a fighter, but she likes scuttlebutt as much as the next girl, and the hot, former SEALs who set up a place for returning service men and women nearby are providing plenty of fodder these days.

So far, she’s managed to stay neutral in the escalating tensions between some locals and the Sanctuary guys. However, when the brooding, sexy stranger comes to town with a shocking secret about one of their own, remaining quietly on the sidelines proves impossible.

Will Jaxson be able to achieve his objective and move on with a clear conscience? Or will he make Penny his next mission?

I received a free copy of the advanced release, but due to computer updates, I never got the chance to read the book. I waited until the actual release day and brought a copy and am I happy about that? Yes, I can say I truly am. Jaxson started out as a bruding pugnacious type of man and by the end of the story he's more relaxed and open. This was a romance that didn't come together at the speed of light, but grew slowly with the persistence of one strong but different lady. Penny was like no other herion I have ever read about. She's innocent and unassuming and just naturally sweet. She was perfect for Jaxson!

Jaxson has come home for serving in the Armed Forces and he is discharged because of an medical engerery. He is feeling lost, alone and without purpose. He is also still dealing with the grief of his father dying and doesn't know what to do with his life. After returning to the home he shared with his dad, he comes across a stack of love letters written to his father. Jaxson thinks they may have come from the mother he never knew and set's out to find answers. The letters lead him to Sumneyville PA and right into the path of Penny.

Penny works for her families flower shop and loves her job. She is different from any other girl Jaxson has ever met in the fact that she is naturally sweet. This makes her somewhat annoying to Jaxson because she is also very persistent. This can at times make her look as if she is begging for love and a little pathetic, but it is always her good intentions that make her act the was she does.

Jaxson also is lead to the people of Sanctuary and finds a part of the answer to some of the mystery of the love letters. They lead him to a family member he never knew he had and to opening his heart to Penny slowly but surly. Both these things help Jaxson to find "home". It's where his heart lives.

This is the first book by Abbie Zanders that I felt moved at a slower pace. It took some time to work up to the love interest between the hero and the herion, (which get's no complaint from me). I did expect a little more action and confrontation between the men of Sanctuary and the men of Sumneyville, but even that get's no complaint as I feel it's coming. I look forward to seeing just what happens and if things are resolved. Being a person married to an ex Marine, I can't understand why the men of Sumneyville hate the job Sanctuary is doing.

If you are looking for a slow, sweet, heart warming tell of two people finding home in each other, this is the one for you! I really enjoyed it!

Jaxson and Penny's story took place with less intensity and tension then the other stories. Penny would have pushed the attraction faster but Jaxson wasn't a man to be pushed. Though others attempted to interfere in their pairing, it wasn't to be. What happened? Read this one and enjoy as questions are answered. Good reading.

It's not bad enough that Jaxson is coming home from an IED injury, stranded in the Atlanta airport due to weather, now when he trying to find out about a mother he never met, he's knocked off his motorcycle by some chick driving a delivery van. So maybe the first meeting between Jaxson and Penny wasn't the most romantic meet, but surely things will improve from there!

Book 3 in the Long Road Home series is typical Abbie Zanders greatness. With a soft tie in to Abbie's Sanctuary series it definitely stands on its own. Jackson has just been released from the military a due to disability. After a lengthy hurricane caused layover in Atlanta he is on his way home to the family home. Unable to handle the memories of his father in the family home, he decides to use the clues in some old love letters to track down the mother he never knew.An accident on his father's prized motorcycle just as he gets in town introduces him to the one girl able to break down his barrier. Although all his leads to his mother's identity lead nowhere, Penny is able to see a familial likeness to someone she knows and helps bring him close to the answers he is looking for. Although not a Sanctuary series book, you will get to catch up with a few members of there as well as touch base with Abbie's Callahan crew and her Connelly cousins. Abbie does a good job of keeping this lighthearted and fast moving and I loved it as I have all 3 of the Long Road Home series so far. If you are normally an Abbie Zanders fan or if you are just getting ready to discover her, you will love this book.

Jaxon is on his way home. To what, he has no idea. After he looks through his dad's lock box, he needs answers. When he reaches his destination, he is on his motorcycle, next thing he knows, he is on the ground and his motorcycle didn't fare as well as he did, even with his previous injuries which brought him home.
Penny works at the flower shop with her mom. While out on delivering flowers to the church for a wedding, she accidentally hits a guy riding his motorcycle. She feels horrible and offers to pay for the repairs and breakfast.
Jaxon is having a hard time finding answers and avoiding Penny. He wants to stay far away from her but finds himself thinking about her constantly considering she shows up a lot. She even helps him after he was jumped.
Jaxon heads to Sanctuary where he hopes to get some answers. Of course, Penny is already there. While he works with the guys to get answers, they offer him a place to stay. Before long though, he heads home.
Penny decides to go after what she wants. Will she be accepted or sent away? Will Jaxon get his answers and the girl?

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story, superbly written!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 24, 2021
Finding Home is the eagerly awaited contribution from the amazing Abbie Zanders to the fabulous The Long Road Home series and it is sooo good, a definite 5*!
Where is home? after his forced medical discharge from the army Jaxson Adams simply doesn't know any more, his time in the army and the injuries that forced him out have changed him forever and now his Dad is dead he isn't sure that the place he grew up is where he belongs. When he finds a series of love letters in his Dad's things he's determined to try and find out the truth about his family.
Arriving in Sumneyville in search of his past gruff loner Jaxson and romantic realist Penny Hoffmeier crash into each other’s lives. Jaxson needs answers, he doesn't want to feel the tug of attraction towards the gorgeous but infuriating florist. Penny is a shining ray of sunshine and is immediately drawn to the dark, grumpy and oh so sexy stranger and can't stay away. I loved Penny from her inventive vocabulary to her tenaciousness and courage in pursuing what she wants and enjoyed every step of her and Jaxson's relationship.
Part of the joy of this story is its crossover with Abbie's Sanctuary series which is a firm favourite, and the appearances from those wonderful characters, plus drop-ins from the Connelly and Callaghan clan - so much to enjoy.
Sumneyville reacts predictably towards a stranger in its midst, especially a military one so there is a good dose of suspense as the mystery of Jaxson's past is unravelled. Will he find the answers he craves and he finally found the home he longs for in Penny?
I enjoyed this superbly written story enormously and would recommend it to everyone, it is a standalone but if you read the first two 'Home' books and the Sanctuary series it will be even better.

Penny and Jaxson have such a realistic dynamic, lost in life Jaxson doesn't know how to love or what to do, but fate has brought them together. Penny is smart, generous and funny, how is he going to resist her?
He tries not to because he's an alpha male with a capital A, (if you've read the sanctuary books you'll notice they may be similar, but not all, they all had different personalities, this is a big point in Abbie's book) but because he's so lost after all the events in his life and he just don’t know what to do with his own life, and of course it affects his love life.
Penny being open and talkative and annoying in a cute way, but with low self steem. Jaxson realized it and help her too.
I love the topic on mental health and wish had more chapters.
A generous heart can definitely win a grumpy mysterious man!
I love the likelihood Finding Home the twist and how the series are intertwined .
    I definitely recommend this book 5 ⭐️!

I was really looking forward to reading this book. It’s not only the next book in the long road home series (which I’m loving) but it’s set in Sumneyville (Sanctuary Series-I’m really loving!) I always hope that my anticipation doesn’t exceed reality. I needn’t have worried it was phenomenal. I enjoy how each chapter is from each characters point of view. Penny shows the world this perpetual bright and smiling facade but we get to see her reality. Jaxson appears to be a tough guy and a loner but we get to see his internal struggles. This book is brilliant. My all time favourite scene is Penny meeting Cherise for the first time- hallarious. This book is a crossover for Abbie’s other series too. Callaghan’s and the Connelly’s feature too. All in all it’s a brilliant book and I can’t wait to read the next one. By next one I actually next few. Abbie’s Sanctuary finale and the next instalment in the Long Road home. I’ve got them both preordered.
I received this book from the Author. I’m voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Very enjoyable read that encompasses characters from three different series yet brings its own unique story to readers. Loved the characters and Penelope is a gal after my own heart and loved her dealing of retribution against the bullies. Really good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book 3 in Finding Home series.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 23, 2021
Jaxson has had to take a medical discharge from the Army before he was ready to leave, he is returning home but to what? His only relative, his father, dies whilst he was deployed. Once home he discovers a box of papers, old love letters from a woman called Ilsa in Sumneyville. He decides to investigate wondering if she is his unknown mother.
After driving to Sumneyville on his father’s classic motorbike he is nearly knocked down by Penny, the local florist. She takes him to breakfast to apologise and then keeps meeting him around town. She is definitely attracted to hi and realises he looks like her friend Samantha who is married to Smoke from Sanctuary.
As Penny and Jaxson become more involved he also meets up with Samantha and the guys from Sanctuary as he and Samantha try to work out their mutual history.
This is part of the excellent Finding Home series and involves literally finding a place to live as well as an emotional home. It fits in well to the sanctuary series but it is not essential to have read them. Another highly entertaining read from Abbie Zanders in this most enjoyable multi author series.
