A Revolutionary Engagement (The Wellington Patriot Series Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 40 ratings

In book two of the Wellington Patriot Series, Baldwin and Bronwyn find themselves on the same plantation, Greenway Court, home of Lord Thomas Fairfax and his nephew, Thomas "Bryan" Martin. They are both indentured servants, Bronwyn as the housekeeper and Baldwin as a tobacco field worker. Events leading to the Revolutionary War bring George Washington to the plantation to visit his old friends and he is first introduced to Baldwin and Bronwyn.

When the war begins, Baldwin must choose which side to fight on, the British, his original homeland, or the Patriots, those fellow countrymen of his new homeland. He is forced to fight for one side but circumstances change after he is captured as a prisoner of war.

Meanwhile Bronwyn must keep a secret while continuing to tend the house and entertain visitors from both sides of the war at the plantation. Once that secret is revealed, she is banned from the plantation and wonders if Baldwin will ever find her again.

Cheryl R. Lane was born and raised in Johnson City, Tennessee, and went to college at East Tennessee State University before marrying her high school sweetheart and moving to Virginia Beach, Virginia. She started writing as a hobby when she was in college after purchasing a couple of Southern Heritage cookbooks, which were filled with pages of beautiful old plantation homes. She used to sit outside in her backyard and type on a manual typewriter at a picnic table under tall maple trees.  She continued writing after moving to Virginia Beach and visiting beautifully restored homes in Williamsburg as well as plantations on the James River. Her day job has been working as a medical transcriptionist for 30 years and now as a legal transcriptionist while writing on the side. She finally decided to self-publish her first book in December 2012, and she enjoys the freedom and creativity of self-publishing.  She loves being outside in nature and her hobbies include visiting historical homes and gardens, reading, traveling, and exercising.  She is still married to her sweetheart after 30 years, and they have one son. Cheryl R Lane takes you on a romantic journey thru the Revolutionary War with her wonderful characters from book 1, Bronwyn and Baldwin.
Bronwyn and Baldwin are indentured servants for Lord Fairfax on his plantation.
    * I had this long review all written out then realized that I was revealing too much. Lol so I deleted it.
Here is a shorter version. Bronwyn and Baldwin are in love. They're planning their lives together. They're happy. Then the war! Baldwin will go to war. Bronwyn will be sent away from the plantation because of a secret she was keeping. Will they find each other again? Will Baldwin come home from the war? Will he be able to find Bronwyn? And what is the secret Bronwyn is keeping?

This is an exciting book with a new look into history while reading about the characters we love from the 1st book. There are many twists and turns. I loved it and read it in 2 days.

Baldwin and Bronwyn have arrived in America after a difficult sea voyage. They are ready to begin a new life as indentured servants. They have a special bond. Thankfully they are together on the same plantation. I loved seeing them fall deeply in love. I know that their life is hard but there is the future to look forward to. The Revolutionary War changes everything. Baldwin is forced to fight for the British by his owner. It broke my heart when they were separated. Bronwyn has to leave Greenway Court when her secret is discovered. I admired the strength and determination of both Baldwin and Bronwyn. Their love is strong and they won't give up. As the story unfolds I was amazed by how George Washington and his army managed to defeat a world power. Bronwyn and Baldwin are there. Helping achieve this historic victory. I want these two to find the peace and security that they deserve. However,
that dream isn't easy to achieve. Cheryl R, Lane has written an amazing story. Her characters are real people who struggle to find their way in a world gone mad. I couldn't put this book down. A Revolutionary Engagement is a powerful. It's filled with heartbreak, love and most of all hope. I'm looking forward to the next book in The Wellington Patriot series.
I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.

Wow!!! Cheryl R. Lane does it again in Book 2 of The Wellington Patriot Series. "A Revolutionary Engagement" is a must read. The novel is a descriptive told historical romance tale. Cheryl R. Lane offers the richest character details I have ever read. The reader gets to know each and every character and actually get involved in their stories. She has developed the characters and their conflicting emotions well. The author gives the reader a brilliant weaving of historical facts and fiction that brings this period in America's history to life. Her delivery to the reader is exceptional!

Bronwyn's and Baldwin's lives were changed forever when they became indentured servants in the colonies of the New World (You must read how this happens in Book One "Voyage of the Heart."). This Book Two is "just the beginning of forever." This novel is so well done, I highly recommend and can't wait to see what is in store for Bronwyn and Baldwin in Book Three of The Wellington Patriot Series!

I really enjoyed this and thought the author did a great job writing it. It’s about love, survival and the Revolutionary War. It’s book two but can be read as a stand-alone. It was a thorough historical account and the kind of book to enjoy on vacation while sipping a good cup of coffee. It’s was fairly a clean romance and I didn’t want to put it down. I’m definitely reading the next one in the series.

Although this is the second book in the series (haven't read the first), I didn't feel as if I was missing any part of the story and needed to stop to read Book 1. From the first page, I was transported to the late 1700's and could vividly see and hear these characters come to life. The love story between Bronwyn and Baldwin had so many peaks and valleys that you were either AWWWing or UGHing!! The historical references throughout were informative and well-placed. Living in Virginia, I now feel the need to explore some of the landmarks mentioned and dig deeper into their history.

In Bronwyn fashion: "Aye, I think ye should read." Now, where do I find a ginger cake??

Bronwyn and Baldwin are together again. They are both indentured servants working for Lord Thomas Fairfax during the time of the revolutionary war. A compelling tale of love and war. I really enjoyed reading this story, I could not put the book down and had to keep turning the pages to see what was going to happen next. Cannot wait to read the next book. I would recommend this series.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
