Kingdom Come Kindle Edition
They say the price of freedom is learning that you have nothing left to lose.
There was a time when I had it all. Money. Power. Love. And in the blink of an eye, it was gone.
Along the road to my new life, I have a chance meeting with Cecilia Abernathy. Born to greatness, this American princess is out of my league. That doesn’t mean I don’t see her for the woman she is behind the headlines. In a rare glimpse I see not only her outward beauty but her inner determination. I’m moved by her in ways I don’t allow myself to ponder.
Time passes and I’m moving forward, persevering beyond my loss, and making a new name for myself. And then I’m given an assignment.
One job.
One quest.
If I succeed, my kingdom will be at hand.
If I fail, there will be no more chances.
Men like me aren’t saviors, and that isn’t my assignment. My mission is to find the daughter of one of the most powerful men in New York, in the country, and maybe the world. Find her and deliver her to her family’s rival.
Cecilia Abernathy has been kidnapped. All I have to do is exchange her current hell for another. And then I can walk away and claim my reward.
Has my taste of freedom made me willing to sell my soul for a kingdom?
Find out the answer in KINGDOM COME, a dangerous forced-proximity stand-alone romance by New York Times bestselling author Aleatha Romig.

"Kingdom Come by Aleatha Romig is an utterly consuming novel that weaves love and drama with the darker side of romance. If you love your stories and characters completely engrossing, and the writing capturingand intelligent, this story should not be missed! Five-will definitely re-read—stars!"—USA Today Bestselling Author Jenika Snow
"Aleatha Romig totally had me engrossed with this amazing dark romance! OMG!!! I couldn't get enough. A solid five angst-filled stars."~ USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Michelle Heard
"Once again, the road to discovery and redemption paved by Aleatha is not straight and narrow. As the Queen of Twist and Turns, she maintains that title with Kingdom Come. The journey we embark on is just as intense, just as profound as previous stories, but there is a tenderness to this story. A benevolence of sorts. As always, I am enamored by Aleatha's words. I am held hostage by her gift. I am honored to give her five stars." ~ A Book A Day Book Blog
"Absolutely perfect. Suspense, darkness and a sizzling love, Kingdom Come had it all. I greedily devoured every page." ~ USA Today Bestselling author Natasha Knight
"OMG..OMG..OMG..OMFG!! This book just blew my mind to smithereens. Aleatha has deviously knit a complicated plot. Every time I thought I had it all figured out, I was proven wrong on the next turn, in the next chapter.
Greyson really is living on borrowed time and disposable life. The Ghost Of New Orleans is NOT the person you think he is, his motives are NOT what you believe you've figured out and his personality is NOT what you hoped it'd turn out to be. A man of surprising capabilities and murderous abilities, I fell in love with him the moment I laid eyes on him.
When it ends..OMG THE END, and you see the entire truth laid out in all its dirty grey glory, it'll be hard to decipher as to who really is the Hero." ~ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ review, Shabby - BookBistroBlog
"Wow Aleatha Romig knows how to write a great hero and a strong woman. She also knows how to write an anti hero that you just want to crush. This book has it all. Sizzling chemistry, shocking twists and turns galore and a man that will stop at nothing to get his women.
What more can you ask? A fabulous read." ~ Jo ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Goodreads Review
"Greyson and Cecilia are fantastic creations. Aleatha has knocked it out of the park in their character development, the plotting of their meeting and the run up to it, and the manner in which she involves the reader in the need to see both characters bloom, succeed and find their way to happiness. It is a deeply stony path, filled with many shocks and setbacks and I loved every single minute. This book has been explosive and all consuming. I am still shell shocked and just need a few minutes....." ~ Alicia ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Goodreads Review
"The suspense, intrigue, and passion kept me immersed in this book and I didn't want to put it down! As this is a standalone, I knew we would have resolution at the end, but I was still sad when I got to the last page. The Epilogue was Priceless! Loved Kingdom Come!!!" ~ Janet Baldwin ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Goodreads Review
"Kingdom Come is filled with suspense that will have you on the edge of your seat until the end, you will be intrigued and awed at the writing of this story. Wondering how it will end and hope for the best for Grayson and Cecilia. If you haven't read anything from this author yet, I highly recommend this one. You will fall in love with these characters and this author's writing style." ~ Mary Mooney ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Goodreads Review

- Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2021This is a complete story within the Underworld Kings series with references to The Ruin and Desolation, New York. There is no cheating, no cliffhanger and ends in a HEA.
If you are sensitive to certain topics, please read the following warning about the type of potential topics, as it contains stereotypical scenes one could expect from the genre.
** It contains graphic detail of the treatment the heroine, Cecilia, receives while in captivity after her kidnapping. I didn’t go into as much detail, but tried to include a few examples of what was in the story. **
⛔️ Contains references and/or detailed scenes that may be a trigger or offensive to some including adult language, steamy adult intimate scenes with dominance, submission, erotic asphyxiation, restraints, masochism, sadism and violence such as kidnapping, abduction, murder, assassinations, torture, assault, fighting, threats, human trafficking, drug distribution, blackmail, ransomware, theft, robbery, coercion, domestic violence, abuse, etc.
There are also references to mental health diagnoses such as anxiety, depression and other issues.
There are a couple of grammatical issues, but they are minimal. Primarily what distracted me were a few passages with transposed and/or missing / extra inserted words. I am trying to make sure I mention these for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow.
The story is told is two POVs - Greyson and Cecilia. It is well written. Aleatha Romig crafted a dark themed contemporary romance with a story universe that came alive and made me root for the anti-hero. There are quite a few twists, some were easy to spot and a few that were not and came as a surprise.
Here is a high-level overview of how the story begins:
She was working late in her office at her family’s business, when Cecilia was captured and her loyal bodyguard murdered in front of her. She was then knocked out and woke up naked in a small dark room that she believes is a closet. Cecilia has no facilities, just a 5 gallon bucket, and a gallon jug of water. She has a thin mattress like from a cot and a musty sheet. Food is given to her sparingly and there are no windows, so she is not sure exactly how long she has been held.
Cecilia holds on to hope with everything she can. She keeps making herself remember a conversation that she had with her mother when she was younger. Cecilia has always known that there were people that would take advantage of her family if they could. She has had a bodyguard her entire life. One day her mother told her that if the worse were to happen and she taken that her family would negotiate and come for her, so she is confident that they are looking for her and will be there eventually.
There are three men holding her. They continue to taunt and/or threaten her with something physical or sexual, but is doesn’t seem as if they are going to kill or rape her, just humiliate and demean her. Then they come for her and Cecilia is taken to get a shower. This gives her an opportunity to break down a little, as she is doing everything she can to maintain whatever control she can. Once finished, she is tied to a chair and told to make a video. She doesn’t want to cooperate, but is told that her mother’s life depends on it …
Greyson did what was necessary over the last few years to try and regain his Kingdom that killed his former life in New Orleans. He was risking it all and hoped that the meeting with the top mafia Don on the West Coast wouldn’t be his last. Maxwell Tiller might be in his 70s, but he still was in charge. Greyson was taken out to his super yacht and was tasked with finding, rescuing and bringing a kidnapped heiress to him.
Cecilia was touted as American Royalty in the tabloids, but the video that was loaded on the dark web showed some of the things done to her while in captivity. It also showed Greyson that she had spirit, and while they had tried, they hadn’t broken her yet. The video was posted announcing an auction for her person and it was already over $20 million. It stated that the winner would get Cecilia within 48 hours of the winning bid. Greyson started consolidating and moving his money to different accounts. He then reached out to offer his bid of $30 million, but needed additional proof of life …
- Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2023This story is about a kidnapping of a young heiress and the family involvement. It's most definitely a shocking tale of greed and what people would do to obtain more power and more money, even harming family members to do so. There are some portions that I didn't fully understand because they related to the past but it didn't detract from the story.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2025What a great read, exciting, romantic, educational, and loving. Family is everything to many so many people and so little to so many more. This wonderful book obviously was written by a wonderful author and story teller with a super imagination.
I enjoyed evolution of this book, so many stories involved with all the main characters and families and their lives as and businesses of wealth and many different ways to get it. I liked the strong intelligence and capabilities made obvious in the The very world of this family's business empire. The very hard working heir to this empire was very capable to improving the companies wealth that her grandfather was very aware of for years but the CEO, her father, was greedy and dangerous.
I don't want to give it all away, but you will.fall in love with this book when you read it.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 25, 2021This author was unknown to me prior to this book, and I don’t usually go for mafia type stories, but something intrigued me in the synopsis, so I decided to give it a try, and I’m so happy I did.
The mystery and suspense kept me guessing nearly until the end, and the two main characters were complex and likable enough to draw me in, and their chemistry held me there. The story and the events during the kidnapping are not for the faint of heart, though. It did stay on the side of tolerable, though, at times, I feared it might go off the cliff into complete depravity, but thankfully never did. Many of the men were misogynistic pigs, however, who lived like it was the Middle Ages. If you’re a fan of romantic suspense, and don’t mind rubbing up against the dark side of humanity, this will definitely be a win. And the “good guys”, ( depending on how you define them), pretty much win.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2023After reading Devil’s Deal and Angel’s Promise, I didn’t like Greyson/Kyle at all and was prepared to really hate him giving him no quarters. However, Ms Romig wouldn’t allow me that luxury; and I’m so glad about that, thank you 😊.
This story gave me the perspective on assumption; shedding light on what we think we know versus the reality. In the end I was cheering both Cici and Greyson on. It just goes to show that not everything in life is black and white, there are always a lot of grey areas in between.
This was awesome 👏.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2022This is a good mafia story. This is a dark story line that contains scenes of kidnapping, both physical and mental torture that could be a trigger for some. It also has suspense, mystery that drew me in to find out what is happening to them and how they deal with everything and love the end!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2021This is a great story but, like the first book in this series, it is unbearably and ridiculously long. It wouldn't be so long if the author did not waste paragraphs by presenting character's thoughts and feelings, dissecting them, then later she brings them up again and uses paragraph upon paragraph inspecting them with a magnifying glass. *Yawn* The story got much better when I skipped through the book and hit the highlights. And who in the heck would think using waterfall metaphors to describe a sex scene would be a good idea? It was awful and completely missed the mark! It was ridiculous and I laughed my way through it, not what the author intended, I'm sure. I'm done with this series. I love the idea behind it but the execution is just not there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trust, honesty and deception
Well this book is absolutely intoxicating. Aleatha always managed to grasp the readers interest immediately, and this book is no exception. We have met Greyson/? Before in a previous book. If you not read those two then the mystery of why Greyson is a loose cannon, without his kingdom is alluded to but not described. It doesn’t detract from this wonderful book though. Cecilia is an heiress to the Abernathy Delinger, family, but Barron her controlling father has other ideas. The material is quite dark, and some levels of abuse and torture are explained, necessarily, but in depth. Which may upset some readers. The book is full of tender moments, revelations to both reader and characters. Drama abounds and the plot twists , turns and moves at such speed the reader , in full
knowledge is almost exhausted, by both characters manipulative natures and sequences of jaw dropping situations. Once commenced, again totally difficult to stop, until the end. It is well written, flows well, and all characters, although some despicable
are totally believable. As ever well edited, and allows the imagination to be enhanced. We get our HEA, and both Greyson and Cici deserve it.

Couldn’t put it down! Never have I hated the bad guy so much and wished for retribution and a happy ending.

4.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating
There was so much at the start of this book that was unknown I wish I had read the New Orleans books before this one as it may have given insight into Greyson Ingles character and who he was before this. Cecilla Abernathy is the daughter of a powerful man and granddaughter to a powerful dynasty she is kidnapped humiliated and used in a power game. Greyson is the guy tasked with rescuing her he finds her and gets her away but it isn't that simple and these two very quickly form an attachment that expands into love but nothing is as it appears and their lives become very complicated. It's an interesting read but frustrating at the sametime,
