About the author

Carmen DeSousa is an internationally bestselling author with twenty-eight novels and short stories to her name. Her Creatus series, a paranormal romantic suspense, has achieved USA Today Indie Romance Bestselling status.
Drawing inspiration from her love of the outdoors, Carmen has hiked, kayaked, and dined across the U.S. to bring vivid, authentic settings to her stories. Beyond the tangible locations, her writing delves deeply into the human experience, always striving to lead her characters to the happily ever after that seems just out of reach.
Like many authors, Carmen’s journey to a full-time writing career began with her love of reading. Books provided an escape during her challenging childhood, offering solace and adventure when life was difficult. Writing soon became her therapeutic outlet, allowing her to craft hope for her protagonists and, when necessary, to eliminate her antagonists—legally, of course.
Currently, Carmen resides in "The Heart of Arizona" with her husband of thirty-four years and their spoiled rescue cat, a cross-eyed Russian Blue who is simply too adorable for words.
Carmen and her husband are adventurers at heart, always seeking new experiences. They’ve lived across the U.S., from Cocoa Beach and Tampa Bay in Florida to Charlotte, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Bullhead City, and California’s Northern Central Valley, finally settling in Arizona’s high desert. Their next adventure is always on the horizon, with travel being a constant source of inspiration. If you've read about a location in one of Carmen’s books, chances are she’s been there!
When Carmen's not writing, you’ll likely find her and her husband reading outdoors or enjoying a coffee in a cozy café. If the weather is perfect, they’re probably out kayaking or hiking, embracing the beauty of the natural world. They’re not ones for malls or movie theaters—especially since Carmen often prefers the book to the film!

- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2017Authors love reviews and they are needed. The more reviews, the more, hopefully, authors get their books noticed. I'm an author, and I also love reviews. Now, reviews are subjective. We all know this. However, I'm surprised by the number of reviews I read, where when a person doesn't like the book, their reviews aren't constructive; they're just mean.
Let's face it...we are all not going to love the same things, whether it's food, movies, or books, but we need to remember that since we are not all made to think or feel the same way, we can't all love or even like the same books. Yet, I continue to read some nasty reviews from some individuals. Some almost sound vindictive instead of honest criticism.
With that said, my review for this book is good. I liked it very much. It held my interest. I wanted to keep reading, and even if I figured out the ending, it doesn't matter. There are a couple of twists, and I feel that is a good way to throw off the scent of the ending.
I read a review about the writing not being good. Is it a perfect book? No. We are all human and we make mistakes, and our editors sometimes don't catch our mistakes. For the most part, it was written well and I enjoyed the love story and the suspense part equally.
I also read about some people hating the characters and tearing them apart. Did I love the characters constantly? No, but I'll be happy to say who and when they bothered me. Again, it's personal opinion. It doesn't mean I'm right or wrong. I can say Jordan's wife wanting him to quit his job as a police officer bothered me. I understood why she felt this way, however, it wasn't her place to insist he quit something he loves so much. It made her sound selfish. This is a good thing though, for a couple of reasons...it means Carmen's story incited emotions within me. I cared enough about the characters to have them annoy me. If I didn't, I would've stopped reading, said the characters were just annoying and I didn't enjoy reading about them. This wasn't the case. There are women, and men for that matter, that put restrictions on their mates. Even though I find this unacceptable, it's still realistic.
Jordan? I happen to think he's a terrific character. I adored him with all his quirks, jealousies and controlling behavior. It makes him relatable. He comes across as this perfect guy, but in reality, he's not a perfect guy.
If you enjoy a sweet love story with a background of some suspense, you should really love "She Belongs To Me". If you don't care for a love story as the major part of a story, then you may not care for this book. If you want page turning suspense constantly and deep twists and turns, then you may not care for this. If you like a good fiction story, well-written, with a nice mix of an adorable love story and a wonderful little suspense story a close second, you should love "She Belongs To Me" as much as I did.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2012After finally get back on her feet after a bad break-up and spending years struggling finding her place within her family, Jaynee has sworn off love and promised to focus on herself and her studies. All that is thrown out the window when wealthy Charlotte contractor and cop Jordan Monroe is placed at one of her tables at the restaurant. Not even Jaynee can deny the instant attraction, connection and chemistry between the two. Within a week they are married and back in Charlotte learning to live with each other. However, after five years of marriage Jordan feels that Jaynee's keeping secrets and when he finds her shot in their home early one morning he races the clock to find out the truth. However the truth leads him to knowledge that no one wants to discover about their loved ones.
DeSousa immediately grabbed my attention with Jaynee's life. Coming from a broken home Jaynee is finally in a place in her life where she feels in control. She refuses to think about her ex, who is in prison, and she is 100% focused on pushing her way through school. I felt connected to her even though my own background is no where near that of Jaynee's, and to me that is a sign of good writing. However, I must say that although I found Jordan to be charming, and damn near perfect, it was hard for me to believe that Jaynee would be that quickly caught up in him coming from where she came from.
DeSousa doesn't hide the fact that Jordan is pushy, stubborn and manipulative. He plans their wedding, buys her clothes, and arranges for her things in her apartment to be moved to his house in only what seemed like seconds after Jaynee agreeing to marry him. I was glad when Jaynee would stand up for herself and plead with him to stop taking control of everything. In doing this DeSousa created more of a realistic relationship between the two.
The story flip flops back and forth from their first weeks together, to the present day with Jaynee's shooting, but it did not break up the story. My only problem was that I felt DeSousa spent too much time retelling their first weeks together. I understand that during this time we learn of Jordan's bossiness, Jaynee's reluctance to fight, Jordan's family history of quick marriages as well just general character development. However, I felt that the author spent too much time on describing the lavish nights they spend in Vegas after they were married. If anything I wanted to know more about how they adjusted to being Mr. and Mrs. as soon as they got back to Charlotte. Life after a quickie marriage, especially after only knowing each other for a matter of days, can't be easy. I would have liked to have seen more of the "getting to know you" phase of their marriage.
The chapters that took place in the present day, retracing the final moments before Jaynee was shot, really held my attention. The way DeSousa set up the mystery was well played and kept me guessing as to who the real shooter was. I attribute this to her great cast of supporting characters. DeSousa set up several of them as potential shooters and even though I guessed wrong, the real assailant didn't come as a surprise once all the pieces were laid out.
I read this book within in a matter of days and truly enjoyed it. I recommend this read to any romantic suspense reader out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars So so soooo good!!!
I'm such a suck for a feel-good, sweet, cute, funny romance novels and this book hit the spot just right. I think Jordan was just sweet, yes he was bit pushy at times but there was nothing that turned me off, he was just a man in love! Jaynee is loveable and for having experienced so much pain she wasn't angsty and full of drama, I enjoyed her thoroughly. Also just when you thought you guessed who the real bad guy was..the author throws you a curveball. It was a mixture of love, forgiveness, understanding, hate, and acceptance. Jordan and Jaynee makes you want to be a better person. I don't want to give too much away. Just read the book and believe in the power of love.
