- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2023This was a good Contemporary Christian Christmas fiction book, in the Heroes of Freedom Ridge series. This was Dan and Ashley's story. There were some suspenseful scenes that I personally had to weigh my options. I chose to continue reading through the HEA ending. I would recommend parents of teens to preread this book before sharing with your older teens and above. I was able to read a copy of this book via Overdrive, but it did not in any way affect my review. All opinions are my own.

Packed with faith, suspense, and potential for second channces and forgiveness, "Healing the Hero" is hard to put down. While there is romance blooming I also enjoyed watching the characters grow in their faith and the reminder redemption with God is possible we only have to ask Him. I also appreciate Miss Kay's reminder that through prayer, faith, and asking for forgiveness, He can redeem our relationship with others

- Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2024Ashley and Dan had some Rough patches from the they laid eyes on each other but God's Providence proved sufficient for the challenges.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2020Dan hires a new head chef Ashley who moves across country for her new job. His time in the military plays an important role here, not only what happened during a deployment ( over which he can’t reconcile his role and how God could let it happen) but also his new military assignment stateside. There are sparks and deep feelings on both sides, but being friends seem much easier than working through all the issues. There is an unknown threat where harmless pranks morph into something more deadly. A lot of roadblocks in the story could have been resolved with more openness on both of the main characters. Dan is kind of clueless and sends mixed signals without thinking how his actions/reactions are affecting Ashley. He’s lucky she’s a forgiving kind of woman. There are a lot of issues left hanging that could have been addressed a little better.
This is a first time read for this author, while it’s not stellar I will certainly read more of her works. I’m enjoying the series so far and look forward to the rest of the books.

5.0 out of 5 stars romance and suspense
A sweet romance complicated by a man with a vengeance targeting the couple. Lovely interaction between the cast of characters. Loose ends tied up at end.

I love clean faith based suspense mystery. It was suspenseful and I didn't want to put it down. I enjoyed every bit of the story and can't wait for the next book

3.0 out of 5 stars 3.5☆ Sweet Christian romance
I enjoyed the premise of the story, and several of the side characters jumped off the page in an engaging way, but I struggled with "liking" the main characters a majority of the time.
I connected with Ashley for most of the story, but she had a propensity to take the blame in so many situations, or make what seemed like uncharacteristic choices, that I kinda lost my zeal for the outcome of her romance with Daniel.
And Daniel? I REALLY wanted to like him, and did on a couple of occasions, but he was just so... unreasonable... about many things. As someone who has lived with others living through mental health issues, Daniel put out a lot of red flags for me. Perhaps I'm sensitive, and maybe it can be chalked down to his Army exposure, but... yeah. Hard to love that guy. Which saddens me because I'm usually very understanding and accepting of characters...
I think many elements in the story were promising - the storyline, character aspects, the suspense arc - but it just didn't seem to tie together well. Some scenes were choppy, and I had to pause and think where I was at, which character this was, etc. There were other times I wished the characters would follow a thread (ie someone told a MC the other MC loved them but nothing was said/thought about it??) but not followed. I dislike leaving a 3-star review, but feel its warranted. 😥

4.0 out of 5 stars Good
I enjoyed this book. It had the right mix of ingredients for my taste. I enjoy chef stories. The added tension of the bad guy was well done. Dan was annoying at times with his over-reactions, but apart from that it was an enjoyable read.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Chr6story with mystery
Daniel is manager at Freedom Ridge ski resort. Ashley is the new head chef. They are drawn to each other. Some strange, then dangerous things begin to occur. This book kept my interest. The previous two did not have enough story for me.
