Two men in competition to capture the heart of a cautious cook. Is this a recipe for disaster or true love?

Alice Connelly agrees to participate in a new matchmaking project organized by her pastor and the orphanage's matron. She can find no peace accepting a role as a mail-order bride and instead becomes the first volunteer to accept a job in a local restaurant and relocate to Carrie Town, Texas.
She hopes the experience will help her to discover what she wants in life. But in a town where single men outnumber women thirty to one, she’s more confused than ever. Thrilled to put her skills to use, she enters her crowd-pleasing deep-dished spiced apple dessert in a baking contest. Sparks fly as more than one suitor competes to win the opportunity to join her for dinner and dancing at the town’s first annual Thanksgiving in Action Celebration. But is the winner the man of her dreams? Bets are on.

Another wonderful book by Kimberly Grist! This is a wonderfully written, heartwarming story about Alice and Aaron. Alice is an orphan, whose time has come to leave the orphanage she was raised in. She has chosen to become a mail-order bride and has been corresponding with Aaron. Then she is given an option to go work in the town first and she what becomes of that. Aaron's feelings are hurt when he finds out and decides she just doesn't like him. When they meet, they both feel a mutual attraction to each other. Another suitor shows up and is causing trouble between them and both of their insecurities almost keep them apart. You need to read this book and see how they come together and finally have a HEA. And the children in this book are delightful. I hope you will enjoy this book as much as I did. I look forward to reading more by this author.

A sweet story. Alice is not sure if she wants to be a mail order bride or have a job earning her own. Well written with unique, charming characters.

"I find dreaming of the perfect husband is more thrilling than the idea of going in search of one."
    Miss Alice Elizabeth Connelly-Baker

Absolutely charming is the first thoughts that come to mind! I could relate to Alice so much because she was a bookworm and liked her comfort zone!

Being asked to take part in a matchmaking project, Alice felt very hesitant to go to Texas and marry a man she had never met. But a solution was found so that she could go to work in a local restaurant and get to know her potential groom.

What she never expected was having two men vie for her hand, but how could she resist the one that seemed meant for her?

I loved the quotes at the beginning of each chapter by the characters. This author always wins my heart with her stories that include faith and the joining of two people who find each other when sometimes least expected!! PS, you also get a great recipe!

“…We are a team, with hands clasped in friendship and hearts committed to love.” I love that Aaron was resistant to a relationship and love, but changed his thinking as their friendship developed and became more. I love how Alice became more confident. Apple Pandowdy by Alice has the perfect pacing with the right amount of concern, conflict, and wonder. Great story.

There's more than pies in the competition. Alice might be certain of her award-winning pie, but not so sure about the right man to marry. Great characters and a fun plot with a cute niece who keeps things interesting. A delightful holiday read.

This is one of my favorite authors, especially surrounding Christmas activities. However, this didn’t seem to have the humor or sweet depth she usually brings to her stories. But
It was still a cute story.

The orphanage has a rule of leaving. The pastor and head mistress have a mail order bride destination. Usually, the agreement is to arrive and be married immediately. This time, the young woman will get to move, have a job and secure living before having to marry. It gives her time to select by mutual agreement to be the bride. This time, grooms are plentiful and it really is a match of hearts

It takes a good deal of soul searching for Alice to search herself and to distinguish between her two suitors to find her path.
