Review
"The Immortal is a part of the Breedline series which follows protagonist Jena McCain as she discovers a hidden world full of magic and monsters that puts her in a situation where she must resist dark urges and accept the strange hidden world that becomes uncovered to survive.
Artist Jena McCain is attacked by an ancient creature that has been dormant underground for years. After the attack, she is afflicted by a disease that makes her crave human blood, and she has to resist the urges brought on by the disease for one hundred and one days. If not, she will transform into the monster that attacked her. In desperate need of help, her best friend, Angie, then introduces her to a world that is beyond anything that Jena expected. It is revealed that Angie can transform into a wolf and there are an entire species of supernatural creatures called Breedline.
Author Shana Congrove has created a standout novel in the saturated paranormal romance genre. The Immortal unique possess a unique and compelling lore that serves the plot well and ensures that drama is around ever corner. I enjoyed the alluring relationships between the characters, as it seems that everyone has secrets. Particularly, I loved the idea that friends, even our closest friends, keep these big secrets from us, and the friendship felt very genuine. Additionally, I like the resistance to just buy into all of these crazy circumstances that Jena is witnessing. In too many books, I've seen the main character accept the world for what it was and dived right into the journey. Jena's reaction to it all gives the book feel more authentic and relatable.
The Immortal follows Jena on a race against time that keeps the story relentlessly moving forward ensuring the suspense is high and the desperation is palpable. This is a thrilling shifter romance novel that surprised me with its deep lore and methodical character development. This book will appeal to any fan of paranormal romance that wants to read an urban fantasy story that is grounded but still dramatic."- Literary Titan
Christian Hayden4.0 out of 5 stars Fun story, interesting mix of new ideas and genre tropes.Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2021Had a lot of fun on this one. I don't normally go in for romances but the dark urban fantasy seemed interesting. I mostly listen to audiobooks as finding time to read can be difficult these days! Took a bit to get a grasp of the overarching storyline of the series but it stands alone enough to still enjoy it. Lacking some of the polish of other writers, the tone is very down to earth easily engaging. I hope the rest of the series gets the audiobook treatment! Narrator Christian Sanford did a great job bringing life to all the characters as well!
Amazon Customer5.0 out of 5 stars Highly RecommendReviewed in the United States on August 28, 2021I happened to come across this series by chance, and after reading the first four books, I was excited to checkout #5, The Immortal. And wow... this one was absolutely entertaining, a gripping and suspenseful supernatural gem. Congrove's Novels of the Breedline are exceptional and addictive.
Amazon Customer5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely recommendReviewed in the United States on August 31, 2021This is not my normal genre so I wasn't sure how I would like it, but it is my son's. So on a road trip I bought the audible and it was so exciting! The author created complex and thrilling characters that kept us intrigued. The narrator was also great and really brought all of characters to life for us. Looking forward to more books from this author!

About the author

Thanks for stepping into my fantasy world of the Breedline. I love to share their many adventures. If you love dark fantasy, sci-fi, supernatural, sizzling romance, werewolves, vampires, mystery, thrillers and a little horror ... my books will give it all! I have six series to share: Sweet Chaos, Total Chaos, Unleashed Chaos, Sins of Chaos (2 cover editions), The Immortal, and The Curse. Upcoming books: New editions of Sweet Chaos and Total Chaos, Living Nightmares, and Vampirism in Manhattan.
I've always had a passion for fantasy, romance, and the supernatural world, and my idea of heaven is creating new adventures for my Breedline characters. In 2019, I ranked the second novelist in FanStory.com, where I enjoy sharing sneak peak chapters and receiving feedback. In 2022, I also received the Silver Award in LiteraryTitan. I truly love to interact with new readers on Instagram and Facebook/A Novel of the Breedline Series.
All six Novels of the Breedline are available wherever books are sold online.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2022Another chiller in The Breedline Series. Once again the author does not disappoint with a concoction of horror meets fantasy with a nice touch of romance. As in another book from this series that I have read, the writer gives the reader superb characters and character building.
Something I enjoyed with THE IMMORTAL is that it can stand on its own. I recall feeling the same way about the other book I read in this series. It's nice that way the reader can get a feel for the story. At the same time if you are a fan of this genre you will want to read them all.
An ancient creature rises up to feast and ends up laying its curse upon the main character who has a special gift of her own. And the race is on because she is on a timeline to resist her bloodthirst before she becomes exactly like what has attacked her.
The creature will stop at nothing to seduce its latest victim while the main character turns to a friend for help. Only to learn her friend is one of the Breedline, a group of wolf shapeshifters.
I liked how the author gives perspectives from all aspects of the characters or at least personal viewpoints from everyone, human or otherwise. With many supernatural beings and happenings, the book keeps your interest from the beginning to the end. A fantastic novel.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2023The Immortal, the fifth book in the Breedline series is a book that is imaginatively conceptualized, and the story immediately draws you in, and keeps you hooked until the end! You get to revisit old favorites from the earlier books, and meet new characters that have thrilling events happen to them, that keep you wanting to turn the page as quickly as possible, so you can find out what happens next!
It's a paranormal romance fantasy, and if you enjoy spice, but not an excessive amount, with plenty of world building, then Shana Congrove's Breedline Series, and The Immortal will be sure to satisfy your needs. If you also appreciate stories detailing fights between Good and Evil, and reading about characters who deeply love their partners, and value growing their families, this book will fulfill those receptors too. I recommend this book to any fan of romance, and shapeshifters. You will not be disappointed with giving Shana Congrove a try!

- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2021First off, this is NOT my genre. I've only recently started to read the Shifter genre because, as an editor, it the genre crossing my desk A LOT.
There were a few things that didn't work for me. But there is a BUT coming :) The first was the plethora of characters that got introduced in the first five or so chapters. However, the longer you read, the easier that becomes and each one is unique and important, playing a vital role.
Second was how easily everything was tossed around. There are rougarou (Also YAY for this little-loved creature!) okay, I can buy that. Then we learn there are angels and reincarnation and it's all VERY normal to these characters. It's delivered like pasta on Friday night. As someone not widely read in this genre, I told myself just wait, this might be a shifter thing. Turns out, it is. So I accepted it and went on. HOWEVER, this also means the world is very realized to the author which makes the story unfold deliciously. The author is so sure of their world that nothing is weird or feels cheap.
On that note, having read a strange amount of shifter stories now, I have to say this is one of the better ones I have read from an indie author. The writing is good and tighter than I am used to from such writers. This makes Shana Congrove stand out from the sea of other writers in this genre.
There is quite literally something for everyone in The Immortal. The story unfolds with a deliberate pace I don't see often and takes its time, which honestly is a nice change of pace for this genre. It's clear that Shana Congrove is a voice to read in this genre!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2020While I like werewolves and vampire movies, I didn't enjoy reading the books until I was introduced to the Breedline Series. This is my third book, and each one gets more exciting and fulfilling. The author has written a read that makes the imagination feel real. The story is vivid and intense, and unexpectedly emotional. Highly recommended for romance readers as well! Excellent Story!

- Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2021Writing for my wife who received this book free from the author. She enjoyed it and said she was interested in reading more from this series because it was a different take on things she already enjoys reading. She highly recommends it to anyone who wants to enjoy dark romantic fantasy.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favourite so far!
Wow... just wow! As always Shana does not disappoint when it comes to chaos in the Breedline Series!
Jenna's story is one I'm not likely to forget. She's attacked by an unknown beast and the Breedline covenant is running out of time to save her. He's more powerful and deadly than anything they've ever faced and he's coming for her. The seduction and heat in this story is... well, oh my🔥 is the only way I can describe it! (Enjoy those scenes!!)
That last action scene blew my mind, I didn't see it coming!
With enemies lurking in the background you know this is a build up to something even bigger in the next book.
One thing I really take away from the Breedline Series is that Shana can write incredible scenes with explosive action, there's despair and heartbreak but at the end of it all there's so much forgiveness. I come away from her books feeling completely content and actually quite peaceful.
