The Master and the Sorceress: A Sexy Epic Fantasy Romance Novel (Queenmakers Saga Book 7) Kindle Edition
A DESPERATE SORCERESS
Katrine Aranati no longer knows how to deal with the woman she has become. She runs headlong into a man whose heart's desire is order and control.
A MASTER JEWELER
James Tomel is outwardly a pillar of society, but he hides more than one secret. His life plan has no room for a dangerous liaison with a reckless stranger.
When they are thrown together on a trip to Brightcastle, fierce creatures from legend pursue them, but even more perilous are the feelings swirling between them. As their hearts and bodies come together, one will flee while the other demands an accounting.
The Master and the Sorceress is the seventh book in the epic Queenmakers Saga, combining the sweeping high fantasy world of Thorius with sizzling romance. If you like magic, danger and mythical creatures, wrapped up in an 'opposites attract' love story, you'll adore The Master and the Sorceress.
This book contains sex scenes and is intended for mature readers.

About the author

Bernadette Rowley is an Australian epic fantasy romance author who is also a veterinarian. After flirting with picture books, junior fiction and space opera, Bernadette was challenged to write a romance in 2011 and she hasn’t looked back.
First published by Penguin Australia and then Pan Macmillan Australia, Bernadette is now an independently published author. The Queenmakers Saga contains eleven books spanning the genres of fantasy romance and romantic fantasy.
Her favorite tropes are enemies to lovers, forced proximity and forbidden romance. Strong themes include the horse/human bond and healing.
When not at her desk, Bernadette can be found absorbed in a good romance or romantic suspense, swimming, walking or having coffee with friends.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2020Book 7 I the Queenmakers Saga allowed us to continue on following along with many of the characters we've grown to care about. I love how each book builds from the last, and allows us to see what is going on, not for all the characters, but for many. I recommend!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2020Kat is extremely strong and fiercely independent. So glad to see her hold her own even against a man. I power read thru this story with all the new twists that were added plus the reappearance of old favorites that when the epilogue popped up I was not ready for the book to end. There were parts of the story I wanted more depth with especially from the newest characters added. Can't wait to see where the next book takes us.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 7, 2020The Master and the Sorceress is installment 7 in Bernadette Rowley's riveting Queenmakers Saga. This is a wonderful story that demonstrates what happens when opposites attract. Perfect lives are upheaved. Idyllic dreams are shattered. Sparks fly despite all atttepts to dampen them. From the moment Katrine almost runs over James, their lives are no longer their own. Kat, prickly, wild and unpredictable can't possibly be attrctive to James who craves, above all else, order and discipline. Too bad, the heart wants what the heart wants. Katrine is being pulled in so many directions she doesn't know which end is up most days. Can she shirk her other responsibilities to be with James? Will they overcome their differences? Will love prevail, or are some relationships just destined to fail?
This storyline is fast-paced, filled with magic, danger and romance. The characters are enjoyable and easy to relate to. It is comforting that most follow from previous books from this saga. I look forward to the final book.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2018The Master and the Sorceress mixes romance with old world fantasy to create a tale of intrigue, magic, and the passionate love story that only a spy master and a virgin witch can create. The novel is more of a romance set in a fantasy world. The fantasy elements emerge to the foreground at times, but for the most part, sit in the background. Historical romance lovers would find much to like about The Master and the Sorceress. The love story is honest of heart; James and Katrine often question themselves and their own integrity.
James is immoral—a rogue. At first, I thought he was the kind of hero with whom I could happily watch the heroine Katrine fall in love, but that was before I found out about his secret. To be fair, he has more than one secret. Yes, he's a spy master, and he keeps that from Katrine, but there is another more damning secret, which I won't repeat. It will ruin the story for you, but the scenario brings Jane Eyre's Rochester to mind. And dear reader, I still swooned over Rochester, and Jane Eyre still married him.
Katrine is a witch uncertain of her powers, and throughout the story, she learns what she can and can't do. She also learns about love and life. One line in this book spoke to me:
A man would come along and cherish her for what she was, not merely see her as a beautiful and exciting dalliance.
At some point, we all realize we don't need a man to think of us as a beautiful distraction; we need a man to be there for us. If you love romance and you don't buy into all those ideas that women need a man to survive, this book emulates the idea that women are free to make their own choices, for better or for worse.
In some ways, James and Katrine replicate the archetypes of the classic historicals. There are fantasy elements that make this book interesting, but the real strength of The Master and the Sorceress is its refusal to repeat old ideas of love. That would not sit well with readers today anyway, but once Katrine's innocence is shattered, she starts to realize that there are things to think about other than men, like nieces and nephews. Good on you, Katrine! And so, like the rest of us, she walks that line where she harbors profound love for the one who has taken her heart. Yet she goes on as though love doesn't matter at all.
Both Katrine and James must make a choice:
a loving spouse, children of their own, and a normal life or
the life of a witch with magical abilities and night hounds that wait for her in the forest, and the life of a spy who delivers secrets to his King.
The paths are incompatible—breastfeeding and night hounds don't exactly mix well—and James's duties conflict with the presence of Katrine's magic. There is no easy answer, and in the end, I'm not sure it is adequately tied up. However, both decide to choose happiness. As in real life, sometimes that is all we need do. This is a book with some issues here and there, but a story that will take you into Katrine and James's journey toward love.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2018I recently received a review copy of The Master and The Sorceress.
It's the second book by Bernadette Rowley, and I remain impressed. The novel combines magic, sword , and sorcery with a healthy dose of romance and intrigue.
Bernadette's style is mostly light and easy-to-read, and most of all, it's original. The settings are vivid in my mind's eye, and the action is crisp. I recommend this for readers of fantasy and historical romance.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2018A story of magic, romance, and opposites attracting. Is the corse of true love ever easy? This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.
