In his debut novel, Burn Moor delivers on his promise to leave his readers' minds twisted…permanently.
Deep within the confines of his sheltered delusion, Bill Butler is a loving father and husband, and a successful corporate executive, but his reality is far different. Bill is estranged from his wife, detached from his daughter, and is a constant target of ridicule at his job – and he is on a straight path to mental breakdown.
The Brain Drips Yellow is one man's descent into madness.
Along his journey he is introduced to a sadistic dwarf, a magician-turned-priest, and a suave demonic entity – but did he evoke this entity or is it another manifestation of a deteriorating mind? The demon leads Bill into a surreal world that he refers to as the "scent world" – a world where he is free to purge himself of his fears and satiate his deepest desires. But as Bill spirals into madness, the lines between reality and fantasy begin to blur.
Burn Moor philosophically shreds through our cultural mores, our religious fanaticisms, and our concepts of identity while bringing us uncomfortably close to the face of mental illness. The Brain Drips Yellow is a novel that will leave you ruminating long after you've read the final page.

Editorial Reviews

Review

CEO Bill Butler is miserable. He has to partake in demeaning work activities for the sake of maintaining his employment. His wife despises him and he has difficulty connecting with his daughter. His life takes a strange turn when he encounters an entity while on a family vacation. This man appears to be human, but as time passes, he shows a different side. He does not bring out the best in Bill, but he causes him to look at life from a different perspective. While that might not be good, at least it is different. After other unusual events take place on his family trip, things continue to get more bizarre when he returns home. His mundane world seems off kilter, and Bill finds himself in very strange situations. Readers will have to decide if something evil and demented is really happening outside of Bill's twisted brain.

"The Brain Drips Yellow," is an outstanding horror/fantasy novel. The author Burn Moor is an amazing writer. He brings this story to life with his vivid descriptions using a lot of simile and metaphors. His words are so smooth, I felt like he was gliding me down a path from which I could not escape. I had to keep reading! The dark psychological aspects of the storyline blend perfectly with supernatural horror.

The protagonist plays a common character, with whom many readers will be able to relate, especially if they are leading unhappy, depressed lives for which they feel no control. The supporting characters have their own issues, which makes this even more interesting. Whether it is a boss with a strange fetish, or a tarot card reader, or a dwarf, a shaman, or a demon, they all contribute greatly to the demise of the main character's mental state.

Moor presents fascinating, twisted ideas, that completely captured my attention. While he presents the story in a fictional manner, there were also a lot of statements made that readers will find thought provoking and will lead to introspection. I find this to be a very unique element of this story. And, while I am reading scenes that I find disturbing, and repulsive, I also find that I am asking myself questions about things that the main character is questioning himself about. I loved this aspect of Moor's writing. I found myself feeling very unnerved long after the tale ended.

Readers who enjoy horror, dark fantasy and twisted psychological novels will absolutely love, "The Brain Drips Yellow," by Burn Moor.

About the Author

At the age of eight, Burn Moor got a hold of his grandfather's antique typewriter, inserted a piece of paper, and punched the keys to a detective story. This would serve as the beginning of a lifelong passion for literature.
Influenced by some of the greatest authors to ever bleed ink into paper -- Charles Dickens, Franz Kafka, Arthur Machen, Edgar Allan Poe, Thomas Ligotti, and Haruki Murakami, as well as a heavy dose of Rod Serling's, The Twilight Zone -- Burn Moor tosses his readers into dark worlds of the nihilistic, the surreal, and the psychologically twisted.
Burn grew up in NYC, immersed in a culturally and religiously diverse environment, which shaped his innate ability to push the envelope of literature, while constantly challenging our beliefs though his surreal worlds. Burn's hobbies throughout his life also shaped much of his persona. Dealing with depression from a young age, Burn delved in high-risk activities, such as skydiving, snowboarding, motorcycle racing, and mixed martial arts as a way of combatting the darkness within, constantly seeking to challenge death, which is a ubiquitous theme in his writing.
After spending several unfulfilling years in the corporate environment (a theme that is also prevalent in his work) Burn and his wife transitioned to entrepreneurship, which afforded him the time to pursue his true passions, and eventually accomplish the lifelong ambition of publishing his work.
Burn and his wife and daughter now reside in the mountains of Colorado. Aside from owning several businesses, he trains as a fighter and powerlifter, and has recently pursued a passion for music as the lead singer of a blues metal band -- Pagan Lust. They are currently in studio recording their first album.
Burn Moor's debut fiction novel is entitled The Brain Drips Yellow and he has just completed his second novel, Beyond the Veil, The Road Leadeth.

There is absolutely no way I could do this book justice in my explanation. It was thought provoking, imaginative, powerful and just a really weird read. I’ll admit I wasn’t sure in the beginning because the characters were very unlikable. However, I was quickly drawn into this world and couldn’t look away. I could write an entire book on this book explaining all of the metaphors and hidden meanings. Just read it. I think there’s something in here for everyone. If you need me, I’ll be sitting quietly while I process this.

I do love a good, fun ride. Although I felt the inevitability of the ending from about 1/3 of the way through, I did enjoy the fresh approach. It felt like cracking open my first DFW book, being upended, not knowing what journey I was on but enjoying watching the writer play with form and character. I look forward to the next book by this author.

I’ve never posted a book review before but I had to say something about this one..I read this based on a friend’s recommendation and I felt the need to post a review because I have never had a book affect me the way this one did ..it actually disturbed my dreams in such a strange way that I’ve had trouble sleeping lately …the book is not horror in the traditional sense but instead found a way under my skin that I can’t quite explain ..while this may not have been the intended result, I have to give the author credit for totally infiltrating my dreams and messing with my head!!!

I finished reading The Brain Drips Yellow by Burn Moor. This book transported me immediately to another time and place, as I envisioned life for the main character, Bill, and his family. The vivid descriptions of events make you feel that you are right alongside the characters experiencing life with them. I found it hard to put the book down, the suspense and the many twists and turns kept me engaged through the entire book. It is so well written, can’t wait to read other books by this author.
Definitely a 5* and will be on my holiday shopping list!

I'm not sure how this book got 4 stars, I must have missed something?? This was a very boring, pointless, cyclical narrative, and I'm sorry but there was no plot. The main character is dull, defensive, unlikable, and annoying. The description in the back of the book is like 1% of what the book is about, very misleading. Would not recommend.

Most of the time when reading a book I find that I like the characters and can generally be greatful when I find some traits in common with them. This is the first book that I can say that relating to a character's traits is terrifying. Even though I didn't care about the main character Burn Moore found a way to keep me hooked, having to know what happens next. If only to know how these shared traits and thoughts may bring you down a path you never thought you would travel.

5.0 out of 5 stars A thought-provoking and unforgettable read
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 28, 2024
"The Brain Drips Yellow" by Burn Moor is a captivating blend of absurdist fiction, psychological realism, and horror that left a profound impact on me. Through the tumultuous inner journey of Bill Butler, Moor skillfully explores themes of identity, meaning, and the fragile nature of human consciousness. Despite his seemingly perfect exterior, Bill's struggle with existential dread and inner turmoil resonated deeply with me. Moor's narrative techniques, including inner monologues and surreal encounters, immersed me in Bill's chaotic psyche, evoking a whirlwind of emotions. I found myself empathizing with Bill's sense of emptiness and yearning for meaning, especially as he navigated strained relationships and haunting memories from his past. The intricate craftsmanship of the novel, from the vividly depicted characters to the mesmerizing settings, kept me engaged from start to finish. As a fan of authors like Kafka and Murakami, I truly enjoyed Moor's debut novel. Overall, "The Brain Drips Yellow" is a thought-provoking and unforgettable read that left me contemplating the intricate complexities of human existence long after I turned the final page.

This is not my normal choice of book. I generally go for something light hearted but this book was brought to my attention by a friend. I owe him. I read the first chapter and was hooked. The author has a way of drawing you in and holding yr attention. It's a little weird, it makes you question what you take to be normal. I highly recommend
