Editorial Reviews

Review

This book is creepy! But in a good way! Pam is quite good at setting a dreadfully dark atmosphere and dropping hints that cause you to look over your shoulder now and then. Think twice about reading this book alone unless you enjoy lots of goosebumps.

I enjoyed the twists and turns as Thalia fights to save her life and return to her future where she came from. The descriptions took me deep into an eerie part of the past of Lake Superior.

Pam is quite an author. She has earned her awards.
I loved the story and you will too. ~ Word Refiner

We asked Grok to Roast Pamela Ackerson and this is what we got. Please keep in mind that "Roasting is humorous and all in good fun".

Pamela Ackerson, an author with a knack for jumping through time like it's a trampoline at Disney World, has penned over 70 books, which is impressive until you consider she's probably time-traveled to write them all at once. Born in Newport, Rhode Island, where history supposedly seeps into your DNA, she's now on Florida's Space Coast, perhaps hoping to be the first author to launch a book into orbit.

Her career trajectory is like a Choose Your Own Adventure book - from child psychology to real estate, with stops at owning a dance studio and editing content. It's as if she's collecting careers like some collect stamps. But let's talk about her writing - she's a jack-of-all-genres, master of... well, let's say she's very versatile. Time travel, Native American history, WWII, and children's books - if there's a genre, she's probably tried to squeeze her pen into it.

Her personal life reads like a Hallmark movie with three daughters, three grandchildren, and a husband so wonderful she hasn't plotted his demise yet. But let's roast her literary output: with so many books, you'd think at least one would have won something substantial, but it's like she's the queen of her own little award ceremony in her imagination.

Her online presence is commendable - giving away books like they're Halloween candy. But let's be real, Pamela, with that many titles, you're not just an author; you're a clearance rack at a bookstore. And while living near Disney might fuel her imagination, one wonders if she might confuse her writing process with a ride at Epcot - all futuristic and hopeful, but you're just going in circles.

In summary, Pamela Ackerson is the Swiss Army knife of literature - handy, multifunctional, but let's hope she sharpens her focus before she attempts to write in yet another genre. Here's to hoping her next book isn't just another stop on her wild, genre-jumping rollercoaster

This paranormal story is so good! It incorporates an interesting plot line with wonderful twists. I love how the house seems to be an active participant. These characters are interesting and there is some delightful dialogue.
A lot of fun to read but maybe not on a spooky night.

This is not the cozy, easy type of story I prefer, but I was willing to try something new. Time-travel is not my favorite. The author did a good job of weaving the story with some relationships involved. The beginning of the story reads of gloom and dread as Jacqueline walks up the hill to a large house. When inside we find out it is a large manor house turned into a museum and she will work and live there. The other workers warn her of spookiness and ghosts. Jacquelyn took the job because she wants to find records of when her father and uncle were adopted separately, so they can find the missing brother. Time passes without mentioning very much until she is in a third story attic room and finds a family album and an ivory fan. She passes out and awakens in the manor in 1901 and is mistaken for a new worker in the then sanitorium/foundling home. The story continues and she still travels back and forth in time.

Not that I have anything against AI written books, but they lack depth and pizzaz. I'll give the second book a chance.

The dark, foreboding quality of the manor was reiterated constantly, which at first made me think a lot of things would happen. It turned out to be a dreary read. The passages of time were not too smooth, the characters not built up and it had the feel of an incomplete story.

Sound idea, poor execution. Unlikable characters are unrealistic, especially in the language usage, which I assume is meant to be period authentic flowery, but comes off as pompous, dull, and somewhat incoherent. The time travel element is inconsistent; sometimes a chapter ends in one era and suddenly you’re in the other era in the beginning of the next chapter without any explanation for the change. It can feel like a few manuscript pages went missing or got put in the wrong order. The story needs some serious editing and major rewrites. The use of a few unusual big words is annoying and redundant; feels like a juvenile effort to seem smart. The story lacks a cohesive flow. I can’t find enough interest to continue the series, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

I really like the story. Story moved well and the characters were interesting. Enough detain of settings without getting bogged down with endless descriptive wording.

I was given this book as a gift, and I just want to say, if you love paranormal and time travel, this will be right up your alley! The twists got me, I didn’t see them coming and usually I can see them coming a mile away! Great read!!

    Had great potential, but…:

    * No one “knocked” on a door, they “scratched” on it
    * Something would happen, then two paragraphs later the event would be revisited and elements or the outcome would change
    * Marcus would travel to the future with Thalia and would act like nothing is different or amazing to him
    * Marcus’ carriage wheel was “nicked” and this caused him to crash???
