The story was so captivating that I couldn't put the book down! The descriptions were so vivid that I felt as if I was a part of the story.

I love the banter between the main characters. The sexual tension between them is so strong that you almost feel it yourself. It included a little of everything....a love story (a hot and steamy one), a thriller, jealousy, revenge...etc. Well worth the time to read.

CALL OF THE WILDS by Gale Stanley.

    STORY BRIEF:
Karin is a vet and manages a wildlife refuge. She takes care of a group of wolves living in a fenced area. The locals want to hunt and kill any other wolves and look for excuses to do it. A new wolf enters the area, is caught in a trap and put in a cage. Karin feeds and cares for it. A hunter was recently killed. The sheriff suspects this new wolf did it. Karin meets Malcolm who is a wolf shape shifter. She doesn't know that. They fall in lust right away. He breaks up with her because he believes she will want children someday, and he can't make her pregnant. The sheriff sees Karin with Malcolm and is jealous because he wants Karin for himself. He causes problems.

    REVIEWER'S OPINION (WITH SOME SPOILERS):
I kept wanting the couple to communicate. She loved him but wouldn't tell him. He broke up with her but wouldn't tell her why. She was pregnant but wouldn't tell him. She sees him with another woman and runs away hurt, but he didn't go after her to explain. He hears a lie about Karin and believes it without asking her. These miscommunication conflicts were the main conflicts, and they were not very exciting. But I have to say the vague communication didn't bother me as much as it has in other books - probably because the author was TRYING to provide good reasons for not communicating.

I liked Karin, the refuge environment, and the wolves. There were a lot of sex scenes - explicit - but not as exciting as some others I've read. They were ok, but could have used more emotional something. There was almost no relationship development between Karin and Malcolm. But that happens a lot in wolf shifter books. They don't need to develop a relationship because they are immediately in lust with and drawn to their "imprinted life mates" upon meeting. Don't get me wrong, Karin is human so there's no "imprinting" going on, but it's a "strong immediate connection."

One thing unsettling was my odd reaction to the sheriff. He was Karin's only friend. He acted like a friend, but he had ulterior motives. He was always touching her - the small of her back, her shoulder. He wanted her badly. His desire for Karin kind of turned me on. Malcolm didn't affect me as much because he resisted his desires and broke up with her. The sheriff couldn't resist. He was desperate for Karin. He wanted to marry her. He fantasized that she would be crazy in lust with him too. When he drugged her so he could take off her clothes, I found it oddly appealing or something. He didn't rape her. He just treasured the experience of being next to her naked body. Then he told his secretary that Karin spent the night with him. He hoped his secretary would gossip and spread the word. I enjoyed reading about this because it was odd and weird.

I was disappointed at the end because I didn't know what happened to Sable (the bad she-wolf). I wanted to see some justice or revenge. But that doesn't happen here because she moves on to have her own book in the sequel "Mating Call."

That's right, if you are a fan of paranormal romance or erotica you must read this book. I fell in love with the characters and was sad to see it end. Thankfully book 2 was just released. This book is super hot and you'll need a glass of ice water to go along with this book.

    LynnMarie's Review

Gale Stanley showcased her skills, and dedication to her writing, with her debut novel, Call of the Wilds. I was immediately pulled into the world she created, with vivid characters, and the perfect mixture of action and emotion.

Karin has escaped the city and its haunting memories by accepting a job at Black Wolf. As wildlife manager and veterinarian, she cares for the protected wolves. The job proves to be more difficult than she ever anticipated since every crazed hunter wants the wolves dead. A half eaten human body was found and everyone except Karin seems to be blaming the wolves. If the wolves become delisted, nothing she does will protect them. A black she-wolf is captured and thought to be the killer. It's caged and under Karin's guard until the autopsy from the victim comes in.

Malcolm is the only person that comes to her aid. He isn't like the other men in the area with their backwards ideas. She falls hard for the sexy recluse, and doesn't deny her growing desire to be with him. The only problem is that after intimacy, he tries to brush her off. Karin tries to pick up the pieces of her broken heart, while defending the wolves, and fighting off the advances of the town cop. Though she gets a bit weak for my liking in her desperate attempts to keep Malcolm, she redeems herself when she finds out a startling secret about herself. Her motives change, and she is able to focus on the future once again. Still, she will never forget the wolf-man that showed her how to trust again...only to turn out like every other male.

When a jealous she-wolf enters the picture later in the book, the heated tension is off-the-charts! I couldn't stop reading, desperate to know how things would end up for our hero and heroine. Sable is ruthless in her attempts to break up any potential relationship between our couple. Though I loved her strong female character, I wanted her annihalated for making me so anxious and causing so much trouble!

I just loved the banter between Karin and Malcolm. In fact, all the dialogue in this novel is done so realistically, the characters become larger than life. The sexual tension was strong, and sex scenes themselves very hot, with the right amount of nice and naughty.

If you love werewolf books, and a well thought out plot, with many unexpected turns, you'll love Call of the Wilds by Gale Stanley. This book is definitely a keeper, and I can't wait for more from this talented new author!

I was impressed with the creativity of this author. This was a very unique plot that was carried out quite well. At times 'shifters' books can be difficult to write, but this author was able to do it quite well.
I look forward to reading more series from her.
