Sergeant Jeffrey Frisco is in Crystal Rock to attend Captain Jeremy Northrup’s wedding, since Jeremy is also his friend as well as his commanding officer. The problem is, can she ever forgive him for not realizing that something tragic had happened when they’d been dating in high school, which had created the rift that had caused him to break up with her before he’d enlisted in the Air Force?

They decide on a truce. At least for now, since all they seem to do is argue with one another whenever they run into each other.

And now Jeff has his own issues to deal with. Instead of prosecuting Major Brian Darnell, who’d been injured the previous year after their units had been suspiciously targeted by insurgents while traveling through Iraq, Darnell had been released and allowed to collect his retirement benefits. Would Darnell seek revenge, since Jeff was certain he was a traitor?

But when Jeff realizes that Amanda too might be in danger, he delves deeply into the past, and what he sees there concerns him deeply. How could he have missed the signs?

Will Amanda ever feel like she can trust Jeff enough to reveal the devastating secrets that are preventing her from moving forward?

I enjoyed reading about our veterans finding love with someone deserving. The romance was tasteful, with no tackiness, and my toes curled from the cuteness. I also enjoyed watching Amanda blossom. After six years of stagnancy, she took the first steps to academic and career accomplishment. Jeff defined love through his patience, understanding, care, providing, and protection. He was a model man. The veterans pulled at my heartstrings, and I shed a tear when Anna talked to Amanda about prosthetics. That scene reminded me of how many veterans live the rest of their lives with varying degrees of disabilities and trauma gained while serving their country. I thank them for their services and sacrifices. Tamara merged sensitive issues with romance and humor in this book to create a masterpiece-Jennifer Ibiam for Readers' Favorite

The relationship between the main protagonists, Amanda and Jeff, alternates between playfulness and passion as they try to work through the weight of their painful past. The shift between friendship and romance is a fine one, creating a rich arc of emotion through the characters' respective trust and affirmation. These points lend a layer of authenticity to an already enjoyable story.     I love good romance stories as well as a good mystery. This book gives you a bit of both. I am not fond of steamy romance, so I skipped over those parts. Despite that, I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

    A past that haunts her, trust issues with Seargent Jeff Frisco, who realises he still loves her when he sees her at the wedding. Will Amanda forgive him? Do they have a future? Will the truth be revealed about Amanda's past? The author has a way of shining a light on the forces and the hard job they are often faced with in her novels. Fantastic writing, executed beautifully, another winner from this amazing author. I highly recommend this book.
