4.3 out of 5 stars 49 ratings

** 2022 Georgia Romance Writers Published Maggie Award Finalist **

A stolen diary, a broken heart, and two dozen missing Stormtroopers…in a city bowing to the Gods of Money, true crime is being committed with no justice in sight. Until Magda Lane comes to town. With the constitution in one hand, and a loaded .38 in her pocket, she’s determined to carve out a place in the big city.

Three jobs later, she’s offended the mayor, fallen behind on the rent, and can’t keep her mind off the gorgeous J.D. Kelly. If her anti-establishment father doesn’t bury him first, she just might wrangle a second date from the six-foot-two officer of the law.

A third-generation cop, J.D. Kelly knows better than to be swayed by a pretty face with a love for circumventing the law of the land. But how’s a guy to resist a crack shot in spandex with a big heart and a soft spot for the little guy?

Zola Joyce writes whatever the heck she feels like, which in 2023 means Zombies! Not gory, keep-me-up at night stories, but rather a little tongue-in-cheek zombie humor to poke fun at human nature.

She has also written modern-day romantic comedies with lots of action, a heroine and hero with a backbone, and a happy ending!

In past lives, she's studied in Brazil, taught ESL in Budapest, and dabbled in hazmat cleanup. She currently develops software in the great state of Texas, with an amazing husband and two wonderful kids.

WHAT A FUN READ! I admired Magda Lane and her unique way of making money when she got fired from her waitress job for unloading on the mayor with his feely, touchy hands on her bottom. She had been raised to never trust the police or political powers and her uncle taught her how to shoot and how to pick locks, plus she could build computers with spare parts. Her only friend told her about her ex-boyfriend and that she wanted to teach him a lesson by throwing his STAR WARS collection into the city sludge!! Magda had not had any luck getting a new job and her rent was due as of yesterday so she placed an ad on Craiglist for harmless pranks. I liked JD Kelly, a cop who only had eyes for her when they briefly met at a RomCom and he wasn't letting her go. Book one was a fun read to see how Magda try to out wit Kelly.

Good characters, good flow and entertaining. It's funny and flirty. Kinda old fashioned but sexy too. It's a serial, meaning that you have to read the next book to find out what happens.

Such a fun quick read! This book had me laughing from the start. I could really feel the story and the characters. I can't wait to see how the story continues!

I really liked Magda! She was funny and witty and smart. Her romance is cute and clean, and I liked that Kelly got her. The ending was so abrupt, though, that it almost ruined the book. Even so, I liked it.

This was a fast paced fun read. The dialogue was quick and funny while the plot was at a runs pace. Magda and Kelly were fun and I look forward to the next book.

This is the most hilarious laugh out loud fun romcon that I have read in a long time. Magda and JD Kelly, just call me Kelly, are the perfect couple, two people from opposite ends of the spectrum. Kelly is a cop and Magda was raised in a compound by her parents who are organic farmers but also taught her how to survive the apocalypse. Magda does not trust the cops or the government or actually anyone. How these two meet is great, at a Comicon, where Kelly takes one look and is hooked. This was such a fun read, I could not put it down once I started it. There was a lot of teasing and I would have loved to see more spice but hopefully the second in the series will give us that. And I don't think it ended with a cliffhanger because issues are resolved but I would like to see more from these two MC's and the aunt that showed up at the end. I will be reading the second in the series. If you like a lot of laughs and an interesting fun romcon this is the book for you. I like Rom-Coms and this one sounded like it would be amusing. However, I discovered that this "book" is just the first half of the story. "Book" 2 follows and maybe that one finishes the story, or not. I'll never know. I hate CLLIFF HANGERS! To divide a book that is under 300 pages into two "books" is a cheap trick.
This "writer" has been added to my list of CLIFF HANGER author to avoid.

This is a new author to me and I am glad I took the chance on this one.

The first few pages had me confused honestly. I didn't get it, until *lightbulb*, and it all clicked!! I went back and re-read from the beginning, and found it very difficult to put this one down for the rest of the read.

This is a slow-sizzle read. JD and Magda are easy to enjoy and I found this story very interesting and engaging. If you are looking for a lot of steamy scenes, look elsewhere. That said, I found this one very entertaining and worth my time.

It doesn't end in a solid, traditional HEA, but I wouldn’t call it a cliffhanger either. I will be reading book two, just to be sure!!

My free ARC came from Booksirens and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Magda is such a loveable character, standing up for justice she constantly toes the line between minor offenses and legality and her business concept offering pranks as payback is just hilarious, but somehow you have to keep a roof over your head… Kelly is a cop with a kind heart and a sense of priorities, not able to deny his fascination for Magda.
Their fascinating story is entertaining to read.
