Kincaid: A Mountain Man's Treachery: A Mountain Man Western Adventure (A Kincaid Western Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 51 ratings

You’d think Kincaid would be pleased. At the very least, content.

On the perilous slopes of Colorado’s Front Range, he caught up with the men who held evidence that could've sent his bride-to-be to prison. In the process of obtaining and destroying that evidence, however, there was a bloody shootout, and in that shootout he killed a federal judge.

It doesn’t matter that the magistrate was as rotten as last year’s apples. A member of his gang survived the gunfight and—sure as shootin’—is on his way to gather a posse, put out the call for bounty hunters, and see to it that Kincaid hangs.

Meanwhile, Kincaid’s new guide, trapper Jubal Anson, brings along troubles of his own. He’s in debt to a mining magnate who’s sent a vicious outfit to collect what’s due . . . in cash or in flesh.

With enemies on every side, Kincaid’s hands are too full of trouble to grasp for a steadying hold along the Rockies’ dizzying heights. Against man, nature, or both, it looks as if he’s in for a powerful reckoning.

"GP Hutchinson has the gift to tell a compelling tale, enlighten you without preaching and keep you on the edge of your seat. He takes you on unexpected trails populated by flesh and blood characters of depth and substance," says Western TV & movie star Alex Cord. Nick Wale of Novel Ideas says, "With great mastery GP Hutchinson paints a West I can see, feel and smell. [He] knows how to write, and he knows instinctively."

Hutchinson's first Western novel, "Strong Convictions," won the Western Fictioneers Peacemaker Award for Best First Western of 2015, as well as a gold medal from the National Indie Excellence Awards. "Strong Suspicions," the second volume in the Emmett Strong Western series, garnered a gold medal in the 2016 Readers' Favorite International Book Awards and was an Amazon bestseller. And "Strong Ambitions" took silver in the 2017 Readers' Favorite Awards. Hutchinson has also authored the three-volume Cimarron Jack Western Series, which includes award-winner "High Plains Redemption." His "Reno Carrigan: Lawman" was also an Amazon bestseller. Currently, GP Hutchinson is writing the exciting, new Kincaid Western Series.

In addition to his interest in the Old West, Hutchinson has been a longtime enthusiast of baseball, America's first true national pastime, a game played from coast to coast by the late 1800s. While he enjoys the game as it is played today, his most recent novels are tales of players caught up in life-and-death struggles during the early years of professional baseball. Steeped in the actual history of the game, as well as societal realities of the times, these stories feature both fictional and actual characters, teams, and leagues.

A graduate of Louisiana State University and Dallas Theological Seminary, Hutchinson has lived in Costa Rica and Spain. He currently resides in upstate South Carolina with his wife, Carolyn. Besides writing, he enjoys the sports of Cowboy Action Shooting and horseback riding whenever opportunities arise.

I know of no truer question asked of a novel’s protagonist than the question asked of Kincaid in the final pages of this excellent novel. It definitely seems as though Kincaid WAS born for trouble. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat from start-to-finish. You yourself will not know who to trust. But you’ll come to have a greater appreciation for this good man of integrity, Kincaid. ENJOY!

I began reading Louis Lamour novels 40 years ago. GP Hutchinson has become my favorite author. I anxiously await his next series!

I love westerns. I really love western novels. I read this book a few weeks ago and did not want to write a review until I let my feelings percolate some. And I tell you my feelings did not improve. There are 29 ratings for this book and only 3 actual written reviews. That bugs me a lot and that is why I am writing this review.

I have read a number for Hutchinson's novels and enjoyed them but this one was a complete failure. And not because of the writing or not necessarily the story. Basically this book is a continuation of the last book. Kincaid is on the run and is a wanted man. Nice idea. But then the book ends and he is still on the run as a wanted man. So there is actually no story here. I kept waiting for some conclusion and there was none. I understand that the author has to make a living but be should just start a Go Fund Me page and not waste his time or our time with a non book.

Sorry Mr. Hutchinson. You have disappointed your readers. I know what you have done is a new trend in writing serial type books and you are not the first author to have done so. And you are not the first author for me to give up on. I won't read any more of your books.

There is plenty of action going on. Although this (#4 in the series of 5) is not a standalone book, the action is good and there is plenty of suspense. Good reading.
