The Button Kindle Edition

3.7 out of 5 stars 26 ratings

A button that can destroy the world. The one man that guards it—and the enemy within. One of acclaimed author Nicholas Ponticello's earliest works, The Button originally appeared online in 2006, one of two short stories describing the dark relationship between humans and the world they've created. Nearly a decade later—and for the first time in e-book format—this revised edition offers readers a rare glimpse into Ponticello's psyche in the years preceding the publication of his recent hit novel: Do Not Resuscitate. Available for instant download through Amazon's Kindle Unlimited program, or for purchase in Kindle format on Amazon.com.

Interesting read . . . dark narrative, and probably spot-on in line with how many disenfranchised individuals feel in the world today. Obviously being a short story, it is a quick read so I would definitely suggest reading it but don't go in expecting the usual wit and humor this author so skillfully applied to his most recent book, "Do Not Resuscitate", a masterpiece!

The short strokes of character and contex build plenty in such a short punch. Push the "Buy Now" button, you won't be disappointed...

Pretty good. Not my favorite story by this author but it was still good. I just want to know if he really did press the button or was it just in his head. Maybe we all ended kaput, gone, dead.

I love the kinds of stories that end as a sort of launching point for the reader's thoughts. An introspective "What would I do?" vs. "What would others do?" This is one of those stories. A nice, quick read!

This is an outstanding book. The level of complexity in writing and character development is indicative of an author that is not only highly intelligent but can grab the interest and suspense of the writing. There are few "page turners" where the content compells you to keep writing, and this book is certainly one of those books. This is the second book that I have of Nick's, and his superior skills are evident in the way he molds and tells a story. This is a must read for those that want to expand their intellect and enjoy their reading time. Great job!

A great short story! Once I started reading it, I could not put it down because I was in suspense on where it was leading and how it was going to end. Written very well - author really allows the reader to get into the mind of character .

This was a quick, suspenseful read. Simple prose with thought provoking content. It was very easy to imagine the protagonist going through this experience and loved how gradually but steadily the details of his life and the context were filled in. The details were vivid and engaging. Enjoyed it very much.

I purchased this since I heard good things from a friend. I never would have guessed how dark it would be based on the cover, so be prepared for that. It won't make you laugh, but in its short run, it will make you think hard about life.
