- Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2025This a very interesting book told by the author as he visits Senegal in 2017 and reviews his adventures in the western African country. It is presented in a more relatable manner than the average guide to an area. Often I felt as if I was actually traveling with a friend experiencing this part of Africa, instead of reading a the usual book of facts you see so often. Now I wish I could visit myself. An excellent choice.

I knew very little about Senegal other than a passing mention in most history books. This book has definitely changed that. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Small guide
I know little about this part of Africa, and most of what I know has come from reading Terry Lister’s travelogue. This is a small guide to mainly Senegal, which I did not know was a French colony, and was surprised to learn that the local language has now overtaken the colonial tongue in everyday usage. It was no surprise to learn, however, that problems exist for a traveller with hiring taxis that are overpriced, and the unsolicited help that asks for money for doing next to nothing, but trying to fleece a tourist. In a country, where the average salary is one US dollar per day, I suppose it is understandable that such enterprising individuals are there. Along with some history, that I always find interesting, this makes for a concise guide.
