World War II hero Dwight D. Eisenhower had never voted in his life before he decided to run for the office of president. From the humblest of beginnings as the third of seven sons born to a struggling Kansas couple, he emerged as a military leader whose administrative acumen brought clashing personalities together. During his time in office, he was frequently dismissed as a man who would rather play golf than govern, but history has treated the thirty-fourth president with a respect that recognizes the strength of his leadership and the breadth of his accomplishments.
Inside you will read about...
✓ Eisenhower, West Point Graduate
✓ Eisenhower Advances
✓ Eisenhower in Charge
✓ The Post-War Eisenhower
✓ From Commander to Candidate
✓ President Eisenhower
And much more!
The Eisenhower years are regarded as one of the most tranquil periods in American history, and yet he presided over a nation which saw the growth of the civil rights movement, the creation of a national system of highways, the end of the McCarthy anti-communist witch hunts, the advent of the Cold War and the quest for space. From the roads across the country to the terrain above the skies, Dwight Eisenhower, the last American president born in the nineteenth century, laid the groundwork for modern America.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2024Enjoyed the information given. Informative without being boring. Although I was born in 1946, I remember him and Mamie, and had multiple cousins who served in WWI and WWII who admired came respected him.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2019Although I was less than ten when Eisenhower was President I knew some of his military service in WW2 and he was the first President I recognized as a youngster. This biography gave me a better understanding of his life and the effect he had on my life. I obtained my first real job working on the interstate highway being built across South Dakota. This biography taught me that he was instrumental in promoting the construction of this freeway. I enjoyed the east way the book kept my interest.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2018Since I grew up on military bases, I was used to the custom of stopping whatever you were doing at the end of the day, when the flag was lowered, and then going back to doing whatever you were doing, or going wherever you were going, after the music stopped. The other time that everything stopped was when Ike came on TV (for those 56% of homes who owned a TV back then), for his thirty second campaign commercial that he would be a good President. I have to quote from this little book, 'Americans were ready for a change, and were eager to respond to Eisenhower's charm.' The last time that happened was in November 2016. Nobody on base would talk about Eisenhower in those days because it was against the law for government employees to talk about politics at work. But when we were off-base, that was the discussion. All night long.
I think I've read every other book on the Amazon page about Eisenhower, or Curtis LeMay, or Bay of Pigs, or the Inglorious Basterds, or the Interstate Highway System (weel, maybe not every book about bridges and concrete, but a majority of them). It's nice to encounter an hour-long history book that is also so complete.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2024I grew up in the Eisenhower years but back then didn't think about what he did
or what his background was. This book although short tells us about the quiet president. Worthy of reading
- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2025Large print, shorter chapters. Nicely written. Ike. A great general in WWII.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2025I enjoyed the book but felt that it was very short compared to him serving 8 years as President and General in WWII.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2021Being a historian I found this book to be clear and concise and good information about such a famous person it’s a virtue not to be bogged down in long pages they are filled with words just to write them. this book gave me all the information I needed for a brief overview and I thank the author
- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2021Many Americans are not at all familiar with the lives of the Presidents. These Hourly History books provide a balanced perspective on the occupants of that office. The short book on Eisenhower covers his entire life at a very summary level - effectively conveying the unique skills and consistent apparent overachievement of the 34th POTUS.
