- Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2022Great guide if you’re new to learning about the health benefits of herbs and essential oils. It’s written very tastefully and easy to follow. Making your own skincare products can be fun with Carrie’s Skincare Cookbook.
The artwork is lovely and cheery. Such a nice touch to a fabulous book!
I look forward to more books written by Carrie Scharf.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2023As a newcomer to the plant world, I’ve always had a vision of myself growing herbs for skin care. Now that Carrie Scharf wrote a down-to-earth and upbeat guide on what herbs to use, I really don’t have an excuse. In addition to listing the pros and cons of using each herb, the book is made for notating your own skin care routine. Plus there’s a funny or moving quote at the bottom of most pages.
And how ‘bout these illustrations!? They’re gorgeous renditions of the plants that will find their way to a mortar and pestle—soon as I buy one. I’m almost tempted to buy another copy so I can cut and frame the illustrations.
I love books that are great to look at as well as read, and this fits the bill.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2024I enjoyed learning how to make my own beauty supply, especially the scrubs.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2024I love how the author describes each essential oil and its purpose along with the pros and cons of each. Very easy to understand. Would recommend to anyone interested in essential oils.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2022This is an excellent guide to herbal skincare!
My daughter suffers from eczema. She has several food allergies, including nuts. It’s very hard to find natural lotion bars that do not contain nut oils. I love that I can make my own skincare products and adjust the ingredients to fit my daughters needs. Her skin has become smoother since we started using these oils and lotion bars.
My favorite thing about this books is the information about the herbs and oils. The abundance of guidance as to what herbs work for different skin issues will help you achieve your skincare goals. You simply add what you need to your product. The recipe’s are so easy to follow. The illustrations and information is so helpful.
Overall, this is a not just a book with a list of skincare recipes. This is a guide for how to use herbs and oils in your own products.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2022I have a few books in this homemade health and beauty genre, and this one is really becoming my favorite of all time.
The instructions are clear, the presentation is both visually appealing and useful, and the recipes themselves are awesome! This book goes beyond the expected traditional recipes to offering tips and tricks to gather and use your own grown ingredients.
Carrie is clearly a gifted teacher in addition to being a gifted crafter. I enjoy her thoughts on crafting as being cozy and fun to share with others. I'm so glad I came across this book and I can't wait to check out more of her work!
