The Gift of Gracie Kindle Edition

5.0 out of 5 stars 6 ratings

1960s to present–Texas
Gracie B. Hubbard fell off a swing when she was three years old, and landed on her head. “Papa says I ain’t been right in the head since. Mama says I’m simple-minded.” This is the story of Gracie’s life. Her faith sings throughout her narrative as she encounters difficulties and trusts in her Lord. Her life improves as she learns to read and write, makes new friends and becomes more independent. Her close walk with Jesus will touch your heart. Sometimes it’s the simple things in life, including people, that yield the most blessings.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Told from Gracie's standpoint, it was refreshing to read how pure and simplistic Gracie's thoughts were. Plus, the story unfolded nicely before my eyes. The author's characters were so realistic that I lost sight of the fact that I was reading fiction. I found "The Gift of Gracie" to be a good book with an inspirational message of strength and faith, and I enjoyed getting to know Ms. Heyman's characters. I feel this would be a great fit for Christian readers and anyone who enjoys an uplifting story.- "Reader Views"

This book is perfect for anyone who enjoys an uplifting story about ordinary people. Gracie grows as a character as she experiences the joys and sorrows of her young life. My one complaint is that, since Gracie is the narrator of her story, it uses her idiosyncratic grammar and spelling. That made it difficult to read at first. As I became accustomed to her voice, and as she grew and learned, this became less and less of a problem. I highly recommend Gracie's story to anyone looking for a way to spend a few relaxing hours.

If I could describe this book in one word it would be “quaint”. It was a old-fashioned, but lovely read. The main character in the book gets you caught up from the get-go and you want to read until the end, which came way too soon, as most good books do. The chapters are nice and short which is another added feature for those that don’t care for long drawn out chapters. I highly recommend this story about a girl and her Lord!

Tells the story of how a young girl with cognitive disability touches the lives of others and how others touch her life. Beautifully written and hard to put down.

We used this for our book club reading. It is written beautifully about Gracie's life journey through hard times and the joy she finds throughout her journey.
