About the author

Hi, I’m Vicky Peplow!
I’m a proud North-Easterner with a big heart for my roots and a passion for storytelling. Born and raised in a charming old coal mining village in the North-east of England, my hometown has always been the soul of my writing. The warmth, grit, and character of the place are woven into every page of my books.
Life took me across the pond to Toms Brook, Virginia, USA, where I found my soulmate and, unexpectedly, my love for writing. What started as a creative spark quickly turned into a journey I never imagined. In just four years, I’ve been lucky enough to share my stories with readers around the world, and I’m deeply grateful for the connections I’ve made along the way.
When I’m not writing, you’ll find me indulging in a few of my other loves—graphic design, diving into a good book, or cheering on my favorite sports teams. My creative side has come in handy designing covers for my books, giving each one a personal touch that mirrors the stories inside.
I’m also an animal lover through and through. Our dachshund puppy, Dasher, who’s full of personality, and our cat, Leo, who rules the roost in his quiet, regal way, brightened my days.
My stories are a blend of heartfelt moments, relatable characters, and a dash of inspiration from the life I’ve lived and the places I’ve loved. If you’re looking for a story that feels like home, I’d be honored for you to give my books a try.
Thanks for taking a moment to get to know me—let’s stay connected!

- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2023Paranormal is not my usual genre so I wasn’t sure what to expect. When you realize that 4 generations of woman will be at the center of this tale, it causes you to relax a bit. Nana Peggy used to work at an asylum and when she hears it is to be demolished, has to return to free the lost souls. You can relate to the many characters, feeling like it could be your own gang of friends coming together. Dani, her mom, gran and great gran As well as Mike, Jaxon and others help to bring the story all together. The doctor from the asylum causes irrevocably damage that has to be addressed and shakes you up as you realize all he did. This story will have you turning pages to uncover how they will release the souls, repair relationships and move on as a family. This is a quick read with the short chapters. Grab some tea and curl up to read this chilling story.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2022Although Ashes to Ashes is not my typical read, I am glad I found this author. This book keeps you in suspense from the get go. I’ll never leave home without my spirit guide again!

by Vicky Peplow is a quick, interestingly spooky story. The overall concept reminds me of 1999 American movie the Haunting crossed with the paranormal and reality TV series Ghost Hunters.
The characters were fun and gave me The Golden Girls energy if they were from the UK. Four generations of women team up with a duo of psychics to exercise trapped spirits being imprisoned in an old, retired Asylum by the evil spirit of the twisted Doctor that once ran the place.
There's some good backstory with heart winching moments that make you feel for the characters as they tell their family history that connects to the Asylum and Doctor. The group gets help from the spirits along the way and there is a clever concept of ghost telephone where messages are relayed between the living through spirit guides.
The names Danni and Danielle's were too similar for me, and the characters even joked how their names were too similar in school. It did cause me some pause at times. The dialog was fun and well done but in parts clunky and gave information already mentioned. The paranormal parts were a bit expected and PG to me. Overall, it was worth the read and I would recommend it to anyone interested in a supernatural story with a heartwarming ending.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2023The story of a woman who wants to go back to an old Asylum where she had worked years ago as a nurse before they demolish the building for good. It is her story to seek forgiveness for the Doctor who raped her in the past but had moved on with having raised and loved the child. The author dud a great job in casting such wonderful characters and end with a great moral of forgiveness at the end.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2022This story is wild. I would have liked ro see more descriptive emotion entwined within the dialogue. But that doesn't mean there isn't loads of it within the tale. Asylum creepiness achieved. Interesting. Good job.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2022I really enjoyed this. I've read many other works by this author, and this one also did not disappoint. Dani, Mike, and the other characters are believable and realistic. It was interesting to see how the author allowed the trapped souls to escape the Asylum.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2022Such a chilling beginning that really set the tone for the story to come. Peplow always paints such a vivid picture of things and pulls the reader right into the story.
By the end of the second chapter, I was definitely hooked and needed to know all the details that were keeping this family seemingly divided.
That end had quite the twist that certainly leaves the reader reeling.
I loved all of the connections to a previous book. It was great finding all of the Easter eggs of story details and piecing it all together.

5.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable ghost story with strong female relationships
I can't resist a ghost story and this had all the right ingredients: abandoned asylum with a bloody history; four generations of women indulging the matriarch for a last nostalgic trip to her former workplace; a psychic along to help them. The prologue from the point of view of Jack, a former inmate who was killed by an evil doctor was intriguing, especially his dying curse of revenge. The story followed Nana Peggy, her daughter Doreen, granddaughter Gayle and great-granddaughter Danni as they learned Nana Peggy's tale of her days as a nurse in the asylum. There was a good mix of dark backstory and trauma at the evil doctor's hands, although it was mostly told through dialogue, and I would've preferred flashbacks showing us the scenes instead.
Once the four women, along with a psychic friend Danielle, her acquaintance Mike and a spirit guide called Billy, entered the asylum, they were immediately met by spirits. I liked the reveal of Billy's connection to the past, as well as Doreen's. Although it was an interesting ghost tale, it wasn't particularly scary as the doctor wasn't a real threat; he was easily vanquished and at one point was even described as pouting like a child. I would've liked him to have been more menacing. I did like the occult rituals hosted by Danielle to banish the doctor and free the spirits, so it was a happy ending for all. Overall, I enjoyed the story and will definitely look for more from this author.
On an unrelated note, I liked the interior design of the book, with a large claddagh at the top of each chapter. I took this to represent 'friendship' among the family of women in the present, as it's an Irish symbol for loyalty and friendship, and I guessed from Doreen referring to Peggy as her "mam" that this was a subtle hint of them having an Irish heritage? Though it wasn't explicit in the text, it was an aesthetically lovely addition to the book, visually enhancing my reading enjoyment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mysterious and intriguing
A mystery story full of suspense as well as emotions. The story is about an asylum, the people who suffered and got stuck there and a former nurse who wants to help them. An intriguing read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great spooky story!
After almost 30 years incarcerated many suffering alternative and barbaric therapy, Jack died in the Sunderland Asylum. He vowed to return and take revenge on the so called 'care' staff who inflicted this treatment.
After hearing news of its demolition, Peggy finally told her family how life was back in the day and about all the people who perished under the care regime. Memories were painful but necessary. Peggy too had her secrets and now was the time to voice them and seek some sort of solace.
Although fictional, you can well imagine the sort of treatment that was suffered by many in places such as this, so this is a believable story. It has the makings of a scary supernatural film and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole book. A happy ending finished this chilling and captivating story, easy to read with short punchy chapters, I look forward to reading more.
Good job x

5.0 out of 5 stars A scary ride
I really enjoyed this scary paranormal story. Follow Peggy and her family on their journey to right the wrongs of the past that went on in the old Asylum. The characters were very well developed, I was routing for them. The horrors of the doctor who's actions shaped so many lives. You never would have wanted to end up in the asylom, as you might not ever make it out again. Doreen was an interesting character and you get to see why she was such a tortured soul. I liked the way the author has left it open for another story, but feel the ending is perfect. Really enjoyed it and it scared the days out of me. There is a twist in there to make it even more interesting. Highly recommended
