Review
Chad discovered the power of books at a young age and has been enjoying and learning through the written word ever since. His main interests lie in westerns, fantasy, history, mythology, and literary classics. As with his reading preferences, Chad's writing does not adhere to any one particular genre. He writes the stories that hassle him, demanding to be told, be they western, fantasy, supernatural, suspense, young adult — historical or contemporary — or any combination thereof.
Chad's first novel, High Stakes, made it to the Finals for both a Peacemaker Award by the Western Fictioneers in the category of Best First Western Novel, and for a RONE Award by InD'Tale Magazine in the American Historical category.
High Stakes appeals to both male and female audiences with its Western grit, Historical interest, and Romantic elements. Set in Victoria, BC, the novel has received favorable reviews, including one from noted Victoria historian, Norman K. Archer.
A dedicated horseman as well, Chad's time and energy have always been divided by his two greatest passions - horses and books. If there wasn't a pair of reins or a manure fork in his hands, there'd likely be a novel, or a pen and notebook.
Some of his short stories were chosen as readers' favorites in their original publications.
Accomplishments to Date:
HIGH STAKES (Western Novel)
1) FINALIST — The Peacemaker Award for Best First Western Novel by the Western Fictioneers
2) FINALIST — The RONE Awards in the American Historical category, by InD'Tale Magazine.

About the author

Chad Strong is a Canadian author to whom the "Three R's" means: Readin', Writin', and Ridin'- his greatest passions.
Chad discovered the power of books at a young age and has been enjoying and learning through the written word ever since. His main interests lie in westerns, fantasy, history, mythology, and literary classics. As with his reading preferences, Chad's writing does not adhere to any one particular genre. He writes the stories that hassle him, demanding to be told, be they western, fantasy, supernatural, suspense, young adult, mainstream, or any combination thereof.
Chad's first novel, "High Stakes", made it to the Finals for both a Peacemaker Award by the Western Fictioneers in the category of Best First Western Novel, and for a RONE Award by InD'Tale Magazine in the American Historical category.
"High Stakes" appeals to both male and female audiences with its western grit, historical interest, and romantic elements. Set in Victoria, BC, Canada the novel has received favourable reviews, including one from noted Victoria historian, Norman K. Archer.
A dedicated horseman as well, Chad's time and energy have always been divided by his two greatest passions – horses and books. Largely self-taught beyond high school, Chad's first bits of writing success came through short stories and non-fiction articles, with years passing between publications. Chad's first novel was graced with nominations for two distinct awards, and a few of his short stories have been chosen as readers’ favourites.

HIGH STAKES (Western Novel)

After a number of readers asked, Chad gathered several of his short stories into a single volume called "Mixed Grazing - A Collection of Short Stories", which features stories of different genres together. He plans to release a second volume once he has enough stories to fill it.
He is currently at work on a young adult fantasy novel.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2017As the description indicates, this collection has a wide range of stories in different genres from western to fantasy and supernatural. My favorite was probably the closing story, a contemporary fiction tale called “The Decision,” about a young woman faced with a life or death decision. But all the stories are solid efforts, the biggest difference in how a reader will like each being genre preference rather than quality of the story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Recommended reading
I found this series to be quite interesting. Each story reads well, and had its own unpredictable conclusion. I have seen other stories that were well written, but 'end', leaving the reader still 'wanting'.
I am not normally into shorts stories, however, the author' name caught my attention in this case, as I had previously read his 'High Stakes'. I decided to 'dig in'.
Recommended reading - I find this author an interesting one to follow.
