Review

"You've seen how western celebrities have the inclination to slap a fellow celebrity onstage. You've also seen how they get into catfights and disparage each other through song lyrics. That is Hollywood for you, but it is nothing compared to what author Simo Ben exposes in his book Sneaky Showbiz. Where he comes from, celebrities don't slap each other onstage as they do in Hollywood. Instead, they cast black magic spells on each other backstage" Reader's Favorite

"It is creepy, to say the least; dead body parts, weird animal organs, it's all there. By the time you are done reading this book, I am pretty certain you will not look at couscous the same way again. Sneaky Showbiz is a long-overdue book"

"This book is fascinating!! Entertaining, informative, and really shines a light on how damaging and toxic this culture of fake perfection delivered via social media has become"
Marie Still, Author of "We're All Lying"

"Picture using a corpse's hand to stir the popular dish of couscous to close a husband's eyes to a cheating wife. Yes, Moroccans...many of whom are Muslim... believe that works. Or how about adding corpse water to someone's coffee? Why corpses? Because "Everything that surrounds a corpse is priceless in the world of magic."

"Both the author and R'kia won't spare your sensibilities or sensitivities when it comes to the language they use. So brace yourself. Ben is a great writer, but the presentation is raw in its honesty. Toward the end of the book. Simo Ben mentions a movie, Much Loved, that portrays the prostitution elements in Moroccan society. As this aspect was almost as incredible to me as black magic, I decided to watch some of that film before writing this review. Phew...eye-popping!"

As the first Moroccan TV reporter to cover prestigious Hollywood events such as the Grammy Awards and the Oscars, Simo has earned a reputation for being a truth-teller who doesn't hold back.

Simo is also a Moroccan showbiz star who rose through the ranks on the strength of his own merit. He has an aversion to people who believe they should be the center of the world and seem to exhibit selective memory once they reach the heights of fame and stardom. His no-holds-barred style of reporting has opened the doors to the world's most significant events, given him access to global superstars, and even inspired some of Hollywood's biggest Moroccan stars like RedOne, Sanaa Hamri, and French Montana to publicly speak in Darija, a Moroccan dialect of Arabic. His controversial interviews have exposed fake social media influencers and models, and his unique interview style inspires interviewees to divulge their secrets.

Today, Simo calls Los Angeles home. He is a TV correspondent for many Middle Eastern channels and hosts the "African Americans" TV show on the French channel Ubiznews TV. Additionally, he is a senior correspondent for Arab World Planet Panorama, the number one website globally.

The outspoken reporter strives to live his truth and expose the hypocrisy saturating the entertainment industry in developing countries. Fair to say that I wasn’t disappointed at all!Simo Benbachir tells an extremely powerful story that causes shock and disbelief, which may cause controversy in the showbiz industry but that’s what makes it worth the read.Parts of these experiences may have been told before in interviews or national Moroccan media outlets but never with such freshness, intensity and power. This is Simo’s first work, but he has complete control of his story and his style. This book is a roller coaster of emotions and experiences felt and experienced second hand by the readers as the author takes us as secret companions in his journey as a fly on a wall behind the curtain of the queen or sorceresses magical room.

The story telling combines witt and wisdom. The details and descriptions gives you a crisp picture of each scene. And what adds to the thirst for knowing more, is the fact that it is based on reality not fiction.

The author, Simou, is reporting all the stories in a dialogue format as well as narration to make you experience with him the stories told while he adds his opinion and personal views without forgetting to make you laugh, sometimes cry, and even angry but most importantly shocked that such a world really exists outside of JK Rowling’s fiction books.

While some will find it offensive for the raw use of profanity and for reflecting a not so pretty image about the beautiful country of Morocco, it is only human that humans sin and are imperfect. Choosing to focus on this imperfection and study it does not mean that the beauty of an entire country is cancelled off. Morocco still has its beauty and a whole category of wonderful kind loving peaceful people. Many people don’t condone black magic and are righteous but the book is focused specifically on one aspect of that society and one category of its citizens and that is show-business and its subcategory that comprises the greedy apathetic individuals who crave fame and wealth at any expense and at any cost. A glimpse of the underground worlds as he calls them that a regular Joe Shmow would never know about.

Staying true to his “say it like it is” reporting style, the author shares his research findings in a way that will get your curiosity picked and keep you craving for more … as you find out that after all you knew in your life and all the high education you have received, you will be reading brand new information for the first time in your life that no University (Public or Ivy League) would ever incorporate in its curricular. This is fresh raw from the real world uncovered and exposed. In a way, it is crucial to understand these dynamics for self protection (not necessarily through magic) because knowledge is power, and for adjusting youth and adults expectations when they watch social media, influencers, artists/ stars living above the means of most professionals in a country where actors salaries are not in Hollywood terms and figures. A wake up call to those who think they are worthless as Doctors, Architects, Economists, Engineers because they worked hard around the clock and still make less than those influencers with barely a high school diploma if at all. When 1+1= millions of dollars, it is a hint that it is through ways that are untraditional and unethical where comparison should be off the table and totally irrelevant. Sneaky Showbiz is a window to the realization that nothing is what it seems and not all that shines is gold.

Beautifully written, honestly reported, and we will be in the lookout for the second book.

READ THIS BOOK! The writing style is authentic and eager and passionate in truth and actual information. Some of the material is quite shocking, as it should be. This is magic we've heard about in movies from 500+++++ years ago, and it's happening TODAY. There are things in here... you just should know about. It's as simple as that.
