L. Ann started with the Baxters and followed that with multiple series and genres. While her books feature paranormal, FBI, ex-military and Badass Bikers, L. Ann is writing about the strong women that these men need in their life to help right the world’s wrongs and keep their small part of the world safe. The women are extraordinary, strong and determined to make a difference.

The men fight for right in every book. Yes, they kill people. Yes, the MC shoots at the bad guys’ feet to cause them pain. Yes, some throw tampons at each other regularly. That being said, they do these things while stopping human trafficking and experimentation, bringing their world into legitimate businesses, fighting gangs to keep drugs away from their towns and kids, keep women sheltered safely while trying to stop domestic abuse. These are men that don’t leave a pack, team member or Brother behind. They don’t treat women as possessions and they don’t cheat. Respect takes on an honorable meaning. Women and kids are cherished. Everyone is looked out for and everyone is equal.

L. Ann has made amazing worlds, tackled the taboo subjects and made it easy to imagine living in a world where your protection comes from the vampires, shifters, freaky kids, albinos and orientals, military turned FBI and some Badass Bikers.

With readers writing about rereading the series over and over, she feels like she’s told her characters’ stories in a way that would make them proud. Every book will make you laugh, every book will make you angry for the wrong that happens in the world. Every book will make you cry for the pain that a character feels.

Every book gives you hope that we may just get it right yet.

    This is the story of Harky, his ol’ lady “Pied Piper” a former Raider, and Zeus the war dog! Piper accompanies Zeus and is also reunited with Harky. Zeus is brilliant, and remembers Harky...reunited with his original handler, he is finally home.

    I absolutely loved this one! K-9 units and war dogs! So interesting and heartwarming…loved the story of Harky and Piper. Hilarious was Zeus and Loki. When Zeus bites Loki’s ass for messing with his board cracked me up!! Who needs kids when you have a Zeus and geeky Loki. Loved this addition to the series and so can not wait for more!! I think this might be one of my favorites!

    I have read every book concerning "badass" and all continue to peek my interest & want more. When I say perfect timing we just added a German shepherd pup to our family and this book hit home. Thank you for the command lines. They are how I want "dax" trained except for kill line. I hope there will be more about the k9 in future books but this one was truly enjoyable.

    This is the 21st book in this continuing series. This series is connected to others and follows on from The Princes of Prophecy Series. The whole universe starts with The Baxters Series. If you want to read and vaguely understand this book, you need to read AT LEAST from the start of this series.

    If you’ve taken my warning to heart, you’ve read the rest of the books in this universe before starting on this one and you’re probably thinking, “what on earth has this author come up with now?”. Well, this time it’s dogs! Yup, genetically modified, super-smart, long lived and extra strong dogs! This author loves her dogs and they’ve played a large part in previous books in all the series, both as guard dogs and service animals, helping those with PTSD or physical problems. This book takes it to the next level.

    Harky was in a special Marine unit, as an Elite Team Leader. His second just happened to be a ‘War Dog’, Zeus. Zeus was a huge black German Shepherd, and was unbelievably bright and lived like the humans in his unit did, including eating mostly human food. When Harky left the military he was forced to leave Zeus behind. He’s now in BSC Rising² and is passing on some of his Elite training, when he receives a call from an old colleague telling him that something hinky is going on with his old dog on his new handler, a woman he vaguely knew from when he was in service, Piper. His old colleague hopes that Harky can arrange to protect them both as they are officially now discharged after injury.

    In the best Badass tradition, they swoop in to save Zeus and Piper and that leads to them saving a metric tonne of other dogs who have been tested on by what appears to be US interests, as it is on US soil. As Harky liked Piper when they were in service you can tell how their relationship evolves, considering this is a BSC book. You know what you are getting into with a Badass book, insta-love, though in this case there were feelings kind of there before they are reintroduced.

    This series is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. It’s got lots of flaws but I still love it. I think it’s because the good guys always win and the do it in style. Because I read these books for fun rather than any other reason I can let it skate that all traumas that people receive, no matter how heinous, are wiped out by the use of Native American ‘Magic’. The memories are ‘Clouded’ to ensure that the HEA can start really fast without counselling or the passing of a great deal of time. It’s an emotional and literary shortcut that would normally really really bug me, but because it’s part of this easy reading series for me, I can’t complain too much. If that sort of thing really annoys you, maybe don’t start this series because it happens a lot.

    One thing I did particularly like about this book was the dogs. They were ridiculously intelligent (I did mention the genetic engineering, didn’t I?) but they are part of the team and are treated with affection, respect and amusement in equal parts. I also liked how once they took responsibility for these dogs, they took priority over all other considerations, no matter how much trouble they go into.

    As always, this is a Badass book, through and through and if you enjoyed the previous ones, you’ll enjoy this one. I’m interested to see who the next book will focus on, as there didn’t seem to be any broad hints in this book. We shall have to see.
