The Duke's Protector (The Duke’s Guard Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 490 ratings

London’s most sought-after modiste’s shop has been broken into…but only Lady Aurelia’s gowns have been destroyed…

A formidable foe resurfaces as vile and vicious slander spread through the ton. The target—Earl Lippincott and Lady Aurelia…

Sean O’Malley, head of The Duke’s Guard at Lippincott Manor in Sussex, is sent to London to investigate the latest attack on the Duke of Wyndmere’s family. Accustomed to putting himself in between danger and those he vowed to protect, O’Malley has been shot at, earned cracked and broken ribs, cuts, and bruises. It is part of the job. When he rescues the modiste’s petite seamstress—a beauty with blue-black hair and eyes the color of melted chocolate, he is awed by her bravery and spirit and unable to forget her smile.

Mignonette de Chauret loves working for Madame and is temporarily living in the back room of her shop. Her nightmare returns when the shop is broken into--again, forcing her to hide in the false bottom of an old wardrobe. A blond-haired, green-eyed giant of a man dressed in black from head to toe pulls her free. Mignonette is drawn to the handsome Irishman and feels safe in the shelter of his arms.

As O’Malley lays the groundwork to expose the culprit bent on destroying Earl Lippincott and Lady Aurelia, he is attacked outside the duke’s town house. His arm flayed open to the bone, the threat of infection and the reality he may lose his arm changes everything in a heartbeat. His vow to protect and provide for the lass who has stolen his heart has him asking the duke for a favor…

Mignonette must make a choice: Follow her heart and the Irishman who holds it in his hands or help him heal and return to her life working for Madame.

If we have not met yet, I’m delighted to meet you! Here’s a little bit about me…

I have been writing romance novels for almost half my life, well at least for the last 30 years. I’m a diehard romantic and have to confess the broad shoulders and wicked glint in the brilliant green eyes of a stranger had my breath snagging in my breast, my heart beating madly, and my future flashing before my eyes. At the age of seventeen, I’d met the man I knew I was going to spend the rest of my life with.

I write Historical & Contemporary Romance featuring characters that I know so well: hardheaded heroes and feisty heroines! They rarely listen to me and in fact, I think they enjoy messing with my plans for them. Over the years I have learned to listen to them! I have always used family names in my books and love adding bits and pieces of my ancestors and ancestry in them, too!

I absolutely loved Sean and Mignonette’s story. He is one of the Dukes guards and she is a seamstress. When rumors start again about the Earl and his wife then someone breaks into the dress shop and destroys her gowns. They will do what must be done thwart the villains. When the dress shop is targeted again and Mignonette is hurt Sean brings her back to the Dukes home. Mignonette can’t help but fall in love with her rescuer. When Sean is gravely injured and asking for Mignonette, she will stay by his side no matter what. When Sean awakens he has already had everything in place to marry Mignonette but needs to ask. She readily agrees and they marry.
When more rumors start, but this time incriminates Sean and Mignonette along with the Earls wife.
A beautifully written story with a wonderful ending.

Sean is one of the Dukes guard assigned to the Earl and his wife, sent to London to discover why threats and gowns were destroyed. During break in at modes shop Sean saved Minionett life. Through connections with King of Bow Street Runners and Captain Coventry special squad they discover the culprits. Even after Sean is seriously injured, he has fallen in love with Minionette, thus she nurses him back to health. The banter between Sean and his cousin Emmett is amusing and caring. Danger is always at the the backs of the guards and the Earl. This is an enjoyable story, fear, evil then gladness and joy. Sean is the Duke's protector.

Accidentally started reading two of the “Duke’s Guard” at same time, one on each device. Don’t recommend that, each story deserves your full attention to detail. Great heroines in this series and this tale promises an return of a villain. Thanks, C.H. Admirand, for great reading.

Another book that kept me reading from page 1,to the end without stopping. Her plots and characters are so fresh that the reader is lost in the storyline.

I love the book cover. Fits the book perfectly!

Good bridge in the series from one book to another.

I liked the hero quite a bit. The hereon, not so much. I felt that either I just did not like her personality (have to admit that her being French was a turn-off for me) or did not know enough about her to have empathy.

I am looking forward to continuing the series.

In the process of investigating slander against the Earl of Lippincott and his wife Lady Aurelia, Sean O'Malley comes to the rescue of Mignonette de Chauret, a seamstress for the best modiste in London. The shop where she works is the target of destruction of Lady Aurelia's gowns. Sean is smitten. Mignonette responds to his tenderness and protection. Though the identity of the villains comes to light there is no proof. More rumors and a bet at Whites, leads to a challenge on the field. It will take everyone connected to the duke and the earl to bring the villains to justice. What a charming Irishman and his sweet lady. Many humourous comments and interactions between O'Malley's family that reappear in this book. A very low level of steam.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

Sean is a big and brawny Irishman, Mignonette is a very petite French seamstress he meets when investigating the destruction of a seamstress's shop. He's instantly smitten and fights hard to deny it, as a member of the duke's guard he's on call day and night. Someone is spreading malicious rumors and ferreting out the source has become increasingly difficult. The clashing differences in the social structure make it near impossible to levy punishment where due, where wealth and power make for uneven application. A near death injury has Sean incapacitated as infection rages wild in the wound. Dedicated nursing by Mignonette and his cousin Emmet manage to save him, using old herbal cures developed by the wise women in his family. A few lucky breaks lead to a duel at dawn with some near fatal outcomes.

I love these characters who feel deeply, keep their word, their vows and fight for what’s right! What could be better for a knight to protect a maiden….. couldn’t put it down- can’t wait to read more in the series!

Another lovely story. I like big solid men, a bit like my husband of forty years, he is big and solid! I liked Sean and the teasing that goes on. Oh to be surrounded by big strong men! Though, I am glad I don't need a guard. Well done.
