Riding Out the Wreckage: The Fallout from Loss of Faith (The Father Michael Trilogy: Books 4 - 6 of the Riding Out series Book 3) Kindle Edition
In swift succession, the priest is faced with a series of crises, including the impending death of his father.
When a suicidal parishioner begs for help, Father Michael brings him to Jack’s farm, where a week-old foal singles him out for attention.
Meanwhile, Jack’s son Joe has lost his Christian faith. The teen is suffering a painful ulcerative colitis flare and now his beloved horse, Duke, is badly injured. How could a good God inflict such things on him?
Lucy, a lively teenage girl, enters Joe’s life. But his parents worry; her Christian family is not Catholic. Father Michael reminds them that heaven is open to other denominations.
Using Jack’s horses, Reverend Mattick’s sports background and the collaboration of the nearby Lutheran church, Father Michael pursues his mission to save souls, alleviate distress – and lose some weight.

About the author

Horses captivated Hilary as a seven-year-old. Decades later, they still do. When her father replaced the family television with a book allowance for her and her brother, he was hoping they’d buy the classics. Hilary bought books on horses.
Every spare moment was spent in the attic, losing herself in the enchanting worlds of Ruby Ferguson’s Jill Books and the complete series of Flicka by Mary O’Hara, among others. She also purchased multiple tomes on horse care and obsessed about owning a pony.
Hilary also managed to almost fail English in school – somewhat unusual training for a future best selling author.
Happily, her childhood dreams were realized, and she has owned many horses. Her current equine soulmate, Cruz Bay, is a homebred Thoroughbred Welsh Cob cross. She competes with him in dressage and aspires to joining The Century Club one day, where the combined ages of horse and owner add up to one hundred!
Hilary’s Christian faith was growing at the same time as her riding skills improved and she rediscovered the ultimate goal: getting to Heaven. Her writing combines the beauty of horses with the truth of the Gospel and she hopes her books will encourage readers to join her in striving for that goal.
A note for readers of her Catholic books: The traditional Latin Mass is not available where she lives, so Hilary attends the Novus Ordo Mass at her local parish church, which is blessed with three holy priests who celebrate it with reverent devotion.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2020One of a series that can stand alone. The message I had was that in helping others, you can help yourself.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2019This was the second book in the series I have read. I previously read Riding Out the Wager, also excellent. Hilary has a talent for keeping the reader interested in the story. I love that she incorporates many different aspect of everyday life as well as other things that may not be a personal to the reader, but challenges others may face in life. We all struggle with our faith at times and she shows us we are not alone and that God is always there working on our behalf. Not being of the Catholic faith, I have learned a lot about it through her writings. Looking forward to her next book.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2019This is the third book of the series. I enjoyed ithis book very much. It gives insites into Catholicism as Father Michael guides people thru rough spots in their lives. It shows some of the problems of ulcerative colitis combined with the teenage angst of a guy whose girlfriend broke up with him because of the UC and how he helps another teenager deal with his UC and becomes a friend to that teens sister. How he helps a parishioner deal with a desire for suicide (because of terminal cancer) while Father Michael's father is dying. I hope Ms. Walker writes a 4th, 5th, and 6th book in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2019Dealing with life issues is even hard for the clergy. This was the first book that I have read by this author and I really enjoyed the book. The book was flowing and the characters were well developed. I now need to go and read the rest of the books.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2019This was my first book by this author I was very pleased with this book. I will definitely be reading more of them, starting back with the first one of this trilogy. Characters are very well developed and the plot easy-to-follow. It was a quick easy read definitely one not to be missed.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2019I like all of Hillary's books. So this one was another encounter with her fresh and lovely writting style.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2019I really enjoyed this book...i want to read the other two. You do not need to be of the Catholic faith to love the characters and storyline. I typically read murder mysteries...i know i know... this was a nice break from who done it! Looking forward to more of Hilary's books. Thank you!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 8, 2019Father Michael has many positive happenings going his way. He gets a new home with lots of room and he takes on a new priest to mentor and help along his spiritual. This is a good pulling together of the 3 Father Michael stories. Well writen and of course, here come the horses.
