About the author

Hilary lives in Virginia (but is a Texan at heart). She writes as a hobby in her free time or late in the evenings.
Her writing is probably best described as a blend of Biblical wisdom, historic context, orthodox teaching, and practical living. She graduated from Baylor University and the Naval War College and is now a homeschooling mom.
Together with her husband, they strive to instill Godly knowledge and faithful fortitude in their family.
She and her husband enjoy visiting the West Virginia mountains and seeing God's glorious beauty whenever they can get away with their son and two goldendoodles.
Hilary also publishes free devotional articles on Substack.com. Look for the same name as this book: "A Charge to Keep."

- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2023Just when I was starting to feel hopeless, this wonderful piece of work comes along. "A Charge to Keep" is a beautifully written book that feeds the soul. Hilary Collins not only inspires her readers to rekindle their faith amid today's global challenges but also prompts us to share this faith with others.
Hilary skillfully connects personal anecdotes with historical and biblical narratives, offering thought-provoking lessons on resilience, patience, and the importance of passing on values to future generations. In a world filled with division and uncertainty, this book is a light in the dark, reminding us of our inner strengths and God’s omnipresence.
This spiritually invigorating devotional not only brings a renewed focus on God's character but also offers short, deep reflections that are perfect for daily contemplation and provide a source of inspiration, urging us to focus on faith-based values and our relationship with God.
This book is the gift that keeps on giving and it will have a permanent place in my nightstand so that I may refer back to it often.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2022This beautifully written book is filled with poignant quotations and insightful comments. Together, they reveal the challenges that humans have confronted and overcome throughout history.
"A Charge to Keep" demonstrates that with faith comes the strength and wisdom needed to surmount life's hardships and to move forward with forgiveness, purpose, and love.
Worldwide, millions of people are suffering. As we proceed through a multi-year, deadly, global pandemic, already unhappy humans are becoming more-and-more divided due to cultural, political, and spiritual beliefs. Hate and mistrust have erupted among nations and their citizens.
Hilary Collins encourages us to renew our faith. She helps us to see that the seemingly “larger-than-life” humans, whom we think of as past “heroes,” were people like us. They were able to perform "heroic" acts because they accepted adversity and overcame it with the strength and grace that is rooted in faith.
If you sometimes feel lost and hopeless, read this book. If you know others who are despondent, give this book to them. It is a guide to living a happy and fulfilled life. It's a reminder of inner, personal strengths that may lie dormant within us. Awaken these and live joyfully. In turn, you will become a role model for others and contribute to a loving and peaceful world.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2022A Charge to Keep is a beautifully insightful read portraying memories and stories from the author, Hilary Collins, as well as stories of history and the Bible.
By weaving the connections between these thoughtful stories and different excerpts of the Bible, Collins illustrates lessons and thought-provoking ideas reminding us to continue to raise our heads, be strong, be patient, pass on God's works to our following generations, and most importantly, have faith and hope.
We are repeatedly faced with difficulties in life and often get discouraged by them. This read is a blissful reminder that the heroes we look up to were furthermore in difficult situations that we may experience as well. Regardless, the God that guided them is the same one that guides us today and will continue to do so.
If you are looking for a positive and blissful book, this is definitely one I would recommend!
