If I didn't have mommy duties, it would have taken me 1 day to finish. From DRAGONS to fae and more, this action-packed book will make you feel like you are a part of the story.

A spicy introduction to an upcoming fantasy series
I was one of the lucky people who received Kingdom of Shadows: Death of Love as an ARC. It's a prequel to an upcoming series that sets the stage for what's to come. It started hard and fast with the spicy scenes, and didn't get much more modest throughout. You empathize with the characters and their situation. The adventure begins in chaos and doesn't slow until the end. I did get confused on a couple points, but not so much as to ruin the experience. It was definitely worth reading, and I will keep an eye out for the rest of the series.

    I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this amazing tale and am finally able to review it.
    This was a Fae fantasy I didn't know I was missing from my life!
    Zivah told the story of Listitia so beautifully, with gorgeous world building and so many loveable characters you grow to care for along the way.
    It follows its own lore and path and is so unique in a book world filled with Fae stories. This is one you won't want to miss! Prepare for some tear jerking moments along the way loves.
    I cannot wait to read the next story in this series.

    "You are so like the seas, wild and dangerous...and yet beautiful beyond measure."

    Kingdom of Shadows is the debut prequel novel in an upcoming dark high fantasy romance series by the same name. In this novel we follow the character Listitia, a fae princess who is about to be used by her parents in a quest of power...yet the surging war outside their borders irrevocably changes things when the nearby kingdom falls to a half god, half dragon lord and Listitia's family knows they are next. As her mother prepares to marry her off, Listitia must decide how far is she willing to go to remain with the love of her life and what will remain of her kingdom because of her choices.

    This was an incredibly quick read and I ate it up. There is already an established situation going on that you get to explore over the course of the novel and it really helped the pace. I felt Listitia was a fun character to dive into and seeing her grow in power was a pleasure. She is a well rounded character and runs the gambit in her emotions that made her quite relatable. Her love interest, Callum, is extremely endearing and I loved the casual affection he had with her. Their connection was effortless and easy to invest in, but I will note I didn't get much of Callum's personality. I wish we could have gotten a bit more of an introduction to them as they start the novel already together. That said...I loved them as a couple and those moments of placing a hand along her waist or pulling her close just made me smile so wide.

    This book does contain spice right from the beginning and I think it worked well for the novel. You get it sprinkled throughout and I felt it was well balanced with the growing conflicts.

    In terms of story and plot, I mentioned before this is a fast paced book that builds up quickly. I found the lore to be interesting about the origins of the different species and this book does a good job highlighting themes of love, war, and hope. No character is truly safe and I think this made the nature of the story all the more gripping. I had to stop a moment and say, "Wait, did that actually happen?" The world is large and I am curious to see it become more detailed as the series grows. I will say I wish the pace was a little slower so I had more time to sit with the world and characters but this is a standalone prequel that is building up for the next book. The ending felt a little rushed as well BUT I was so happy to get that little tidbit as it made me feel so much better after the final conflict scene.

    Overall, I felt this novel is a good high fantasy adventure that introduced a fun world I am eager to dive further into. The quick fast pace keeps you on your toes and the romance has some of my favourite elements to it. I am eager for the next book!

    This book hit the ground running from page one. There is magic, there is romance, sacrifice, battles, couples on the run from the queen. The story covers so much ground it was hard to keep up with at times. The world has a lot of characters that are easy to love, Mathias and Listitia are probably the top of my list. While the ending wasn't what I typically expect with this kind of story, I still enjoyed the saga as a whole. There were a lot of touching moments and some edge of your seat scenes that had me wondering what was going to happen. I was very lucky to receive this story first as an Arc but finished with the Kindle version. Receiving this for free in no way swayed my opinion of the story, it is definitely worth reading this high fantasy romance.
