Curses and Chaos (Arcane Souls World: The Lost Witch Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 822 ratings

If the ABI finds me, I’m dead.

Agent or not, when your dad is the head of the most notorious arcane crime family in the country, no one believes you when you say you didn’t open that gate to Hell on purpose.

Now, I’m practically glued under enough null wards to hide a god and stuck with a stupidly sexy shifter of a jailer who hates my guts.

When my former employer comes sniffing around, not only does he keep me alive, but we find out that our pasts are far more connected than either of us realize.

And the lies we’ve been told could kill us both.

If you enjoy fated mates, enemies-to-lovers, and steamy paranormal romance, then check out Curses & Chaos, the first book in The Lost Witch series.

Fiona is definitely stronger than she thinks she is.
🌶🌶🌶 Fantasy Paranormal Shifter Witches Found Family Enemies to Lovers Love that we got another look at Error & Exorcisms from another couples point of view. A lot of this was a recap, but I loved getting more insight into Fiona's & Theo's life and trials. Also loved that we got to see what happened after Desmond attacked and how the gate was closed!!

I’m a huge fan of anything Annie Anderson writes. It’s like, she just “gets me” lol This book is NO exception.

I absolutely LOVE how Annie has created this world and every new series for awhile now has been set in that world! I really can’t put into words how much I enjoy the crossover of characters and stories between books. Reading the same scene from 2 different character’s perspectives is SO much fun!

I love that that Fiona is genuinely good but with shades of gray. I love that she and Theo are loyal AF. They’re matched so well in that way! She could kill you with kindness before you knew what hit you, and he would have the whole thing under wraps before anyone knew you were missing. ;) Can’t wait to hear the narrators southern accent!

Having the characters from the previous series really kept it feeling familiar. I read this in one night. I couldn’t put it down. Of course, it’s like that with all of this author’s books. I finished 2 days ago and I can’t stop trying to piece together what will happen in the next book. It’s distracting as all get out! haha

If you love snark with a heaping side of southern sass you will devour this book.

NOTE: this book takes place at the same time as book 3 of the Wrong Witch Series (Errors and Exorcisms), and covers a lot of the things that occur in that book- it is absolutely a spoiler for that series, so I definitely recommend you reading the Wrong witch series first!

In trying to help Nico (the Acosta alpha) get his mate and her best friend back, Fiona puts her own life at risk. The result wasn’t at all what she had planned, and it leaves her in the protective custody of Theo, Nico’s elder brother, and pack second.
Theo has good reason to despise witches, especially a Jacobs witch, but there’s something about Fiona that draws him…

The vast majority of this book is occurring concurrently with the events of Wren’s third book- which means we see a lot of the same events, just from a different perspective.
We first see Fiona in Darby’s series (Grave talker), and she plays an important role in Wren’s series, as one of her best friends, so it’s kind of nice to learn a little more about Fiona herself.
She’s powerful, but much like Wren’s family, Fiona’s family isn’t exactly a nice coven; she’s worked hard to distance herself from them, and this doesn’t come without a cost.
Theo to has a harsh background. We first meet him when Wren meets Nico’s family, and he didn’t make a particularly good impression. Fortunately he somewhat redeems himself in this book, as we learn a lot more about him.

I’d classify both Fiona and Theo as morally grey characters. They’re a product of their upbringing, and the world they live in, and they both have their own code of conduct.
This is an enjoyable read, and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next, after the events at the end of this book.

If you’ve read the other books in the Arcane Souls world, then you’ll enjoy this trip back into that realm. If you haven’t read them, you’ll probably want to do so before reading this one, as this will spoiler a lot of them for you!
An entertaining read for the urban fantasy enthusiast, who enjoys some steam and plenty of action for their morally grey characters.

When her best friend Wren disappeared in the Fae realm and all portals have been closed, Fiona decided to take the situation into her own hands, trying to get Wren back and stop her mate Nico, the alpha pf Acosta pack, from losing his mind. But the dark magic gets out of her hand, opening a gate to Hell instead.. which puts her in null cell undrr supervision of her Nemesis, Theo Acosta, Savannah under ABI lockdown and demons roaming free..that's just a beginning of typical Fiona day, full of screw-ups.
And in a typical Annie Anderson fashion, the story is packed with adventure, action, danger, dark magic, questionable choices and methods, lots of drama, deep emotions, and total chaos. I love that ragtag group of characters, each an oddity yet force to respect, with strong personalities and loyalty to each other. The scenes are very vivid, and I lived through the story very fast.. so I am right onto the path to book 2.

This story gives us a view of what happens to earth while Ren was away, through the war and after. We finally get to see Fiona's family and some witch politics. We get spice, thank you! This ends on a cliffhanger. On to the next one.

this book was a little bit obnoxious. Fiona is got some daddy issues and now she has tried a lot of black magic and still did not get the results she wanted. Then, she doesn’t want to talk to her friends that love her like family because she knows she’s a screw up so she pushes them away. then she ends up falling in love with the one wolf that she doesn’t really like anyway. The thing that was really disturbing in this book was that Theo, a wolf shifter, is the one that she does not get along with, but yet he killed somebody right in front of her, and then they end up having sex in the same room. I thought that was very disturbing and I’m not going to be reading any more books in this series. I felt that the author could’ve done a lot better. I know she’s done better and her other series.

Fiona and Theo are wonderful characters and I was excited to read it and I have to say I was not disappointed. They drew me in from the get go. I can't wait to read the next book. Highly recommend reading this.

Fiona is such a hot mess. She’s come by it honestly, and the fact she’s survived so much makes her a total bad ass. And with Theo helping her along the way, her epic adventures are awesome to read.
