In the interest of full disclosure I was given a copy of Satyr’s Son by Lucinda Brant in order to review it, however I had also pre-ordered a copy of the book, which has been fully paid for; therefore in addition to the advance copy I also possess a fully licensed purchased copy which has been verified by Amazon.

Lucinda Brant is one of my 'automatic buy' authors, one of those authors whose work I trust to always be a wonderful story and worth the purchase price - whatever the story, whatever the price - simply because SHE IS JUST THAT GOOD!

Her books are always wonderfully researched and beautifully written, with well-developed and believable characters. She puts a huge amount of research, effort and attention to detail into every aspect; this is showcased throughout the story.

Within a few pages of starting Satyr’s Son I found myself totally immersed in Henry-Antoine’s and Lisa’s story, so much so that I was almost late for an appointment! Lucinda Brant has that wonderful gift of transporting her readers to another time and place, I was no longer in 21st Century Australia – I was in 1786 Georgian England. Many characters from the previous books in the series make appearances as well, adding wonderful layers of family dramas and history.

I had been eagerly waiting for this next book in the Roxton Family Saga, and it was absolutely worth the wait! It can be read as a standalone novel however if you read it as a series it adds so many layers and details and the result is a beautifully rich story. I highly recommend reading the series in the correct order as it adds so much depth, emotion and enjoyment, they are all wonderful books and should not be missed.

Lucinda Brant is truly a rockstar of the historical romance genre and the Georgian era is her stage of choice, I hope you come to love these books, characters and stories as much as I have! I'm already looking forward to her next book!

Books / stories by Ms Lucinda Brant never disappoint. It is a long wait to finally be able to read another story of the Roxton family series. I just wish that Ms Lucinda Grant is able to write faster and create another book or story of either the Roxton family or a continuation of the Salt Redux series. I simply love the story line laid out by Ms Brant and the character development in each of her stories. Each and every one of her book is a page turner. This book - Satyr's Son - is simply a delicious read ... for those who had read the other books in the Roxton series , will be familiar with Henri-Antonie. It is good to finally have a book solely about him. He was painted as someone who resembles his sire greatly, from his looks to his temperament. He had fits attacks and this illness can make him sometimes self-absorbed and petulant. Like his sire, with his brooding good looks and great wealth, he had his pick of female conquests (and lovers/ mistress / flings). In this story, he finally gets to meet his soul mate - Lisa Crisp - a girl of on wealth or family connections. Lisa was pretty yet poor, living on the charities of her relatives. However, she is intelligent, has great compassion and goodness. As in all romance stories, these 2 main characters meet and feelings developed. But due to the difference in social class, many frowned upon their relationship. As usual, Henri-Antoine's brother - Julian, the 6th Duke of Roxton disapproved of this relationship. It seems that Ms Brant has written Julian as a regular snob ... he was more pleasant in his own story (Midnight Marriage) then in the other stories. I am also surprised that Ms Grant did not give Deborah (Julian's wife) a more significant role in this and other stories. She was placed in the background as someone who is loved by her husband and managed her own brood of children. I wish Deborah would have more active part in the other stories such as advising her husband (Julian) to be less of a snob.

Sex were not explicit or simply gross over in this book. This book is more focused on the character development, the depth of feelings, the interactions and characters of the other players in the stories. It is a great book for romance readers, especially a romance in the Georgian period. As said, I wish Ms Brant would write faster and publish more books of these 2 families - Roxton & the Salt Redux (Heldon family). I am savouring each page of the story and hoping in the heart that the story never ends ... or will not end too soon.

Great read, do buy the book.

The premise of the story was terrific. It’s execution…not so much.
The heroine, Lisa was a paragon of virtue despite her circumstances. Her parents died leaving her orphaned. She was taken in by her aunt’s family and treated as a servant, unloved and unwanted. The hero Harry was a rich, second son of a Duke. Harry was an epileptic which was called the falling disease at that point in history. He was very much loved and coddled by his parents who were plagued with sadness over what would be his lifelong plight. Without going into any more of the plot here is what bothered me. The book lacked passion. and should have been categorized under “Clean and Wholesome.” From a personal taste point of view, I need passion in my romance. Much was mentioned of Harry’s prowess with women (Satyr) but it was simply not believable. He belonged to a private sex club whose admittance required a super sized appendage, an appendage I might add that Harry talked to in the third person! As for Lisa, she was an innocent and yet she took the sexual initiatives with Harry. She enjoyed sex with him and yet her character was not sexy at all. I kept expecting some climatic sexual event that never happened. It was closed door.

If you are more a lover of Lisa Kleypas, Julie London, Shana Galen to name a few, stories, I would pass on this one. It had a plot that could have been a substantial love story but IMO missed the mark. However, if you are a lover of clean, sweet romances that not overtly sexual this book could be for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sultry Satyr meets Cinderella
Reviewed in Australia on February 7, 2018
Lucinda Brant is all about the journey not the destination. There are no villains or mysteries in this book, it’s all atmosphere and dialogue. Her characters are part of a rich tableau of Georgian life, with wonderful descriptions of clothing, architecture and everyday items. If you like historical detail you will likely enjoy ‘Satyr’s Son’.

At the centre of this story is a writing desk, a gift from Henri-Antoine, (incredibly rich nobleman) to Lisa Crisp, (incredibly poor but gorgeous doctor’s assistant). Henri is grateful for Lisa’s help and attracted to her sincere personality. She just thinks he’s hot.

The book’s tension comes from a big difference in their social stations, making marriage impossible. It’s also a Cinderella tale with not two but four nasty step sister types taking saintly Lisa down at every turn. For me the two dimensional nature of the baddies is the main weakness. It feels a bit high school at times. But it’s so engaging that, even though not much happens, you can’t stop reading. For those who like to know, there is no explicit sex, but there is naked snuggling..

5.0 out of 5 stars What a wonderful world
Reviewed in Germany on February 4, 2019
The End - for now. Thank goodness for that! I was happy to reach the most satisfying conclusion to this story, but by no means ready to leave the wonderful world peopled with characters so real I feel as though I know them all. If you need to escape reality for a while and enjoy historical novels (with meticulously correct detail), you’ll love this book. I particularly enjoyed the references to medical practices at a time when it was just becoming accepted that science would provide answers. There’s not a lot of this, just enough to lend credibility to certain characters. I’m going to find all of Lucinda Brant’s books, her writing is wonderfully readable. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great read! I loved it
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 27, 2017
What a great read! I loved it! It is the story of Henri Antoine (Harry) and Lisa who are far apart on the social scale - he is a Roxton, his family as high as it gets in the nobility. She works in a dispensary for Dr Warner, a relative-by-marriage. Lisa & Harry meet in unexpected circumstances and as their tale unfolds their pasts and connections are revealed. The story is superb - characters are interesting and three-dimensional, even ones with bit-parts - Becky Bannister, seamstress & haberdasher's assistant is a delight! There are so many good interactions between people, not just the main protagonists. Early in the book, when Harry & Lisa meet for the third time, I could really feel the fizz of attraction and excitement that they were feeling. The characters, their perspectives and their feelings are communicated so effectively that I was utterly absorbed in the story. The author's writing skills and knowledge of all things Georgian are incomparable. She consistently delivers at the highest standard. I don't want to give away the plot, so I'll just say that Satyr's Son is easily a 5 star book. It is part of a series but it can be read as a stand-alone, but if you have read the rest of the Roxton series you'll meet all your favourites and find out what they've been up to since Proud Mary - there's a lot of news!

If you have not read any Lucinda Brant books before do give Satyr's Son a go - you're about to discover a fab author!
