Captivated by the Lyon (The Lyon's Den) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 836 ratings

A man searching for the truth, and a woman afraid to reveal it, cross paths in the middle of the notorious Lyon’s Den!

A year after his brother Adam, the former Viscount Moreland’s untimely death, Edmund Broadbank is still searching for clues to unravel the identity of the mysterious woman who arrived at Templeton House the day after his brother died.

Adelaide Fernside assumes the role of mother to her younger sister when their parents die in a tragic accident. Her sister craves being the center of attention and succumbs to the lure of the stage, only to return home when she becomes pregnant.

Unable to resist the glitter of her former life, Lily leaves her babe behind. Addy had not planned on assuming the care of her infant nephew but becomes mother to her sister’s child. When word reaches her that someone has been asking questions about Adam in the village, she realizes she needs the protection of a husband.

In a bold move, she dons the guise of a widow and travels to London with Adam, to seek the aid of Mrs. Dove-Lyon in finding a husband. Her nephew deserves to have a father, even if Addy never planned to marry.

Elated to receive word the woman rumored to have had a liaison with his brother Adam has been seen entering the Lyon’s Den, Edmund Broadbank pays a visit to Mrs. Dove-Lyon.

Neither Addy, nor Edmund realize that Mrs. Dove-Lyon has hatched a plan of her own—to match the two of them!

If we have not met yet, I’m delighted to meet you! Here’s a little bit about me…

I have been writing romance novels for almost half my life, well at least for the last 30 years. I’m a diehard romantic and have to confess the broad shoulders and wicked glint in the brilliant green eyes of a stranger had my breath snagging in my breast, my heart beating madly, and my future flashing before my eyes. At the age of seventeen, I’d met the man I knew I was going to spend the rest of my life with.

I write Historical & Contemporary Romance featuring characters that I know so well: hardheaded heroes and feisty heroines! They rarely listen to me and in fact, I think they enjoy messing with my plans for them. Over the years I have learned to listen to them! I have always used family names in my books and love adding bits and pieces of my ancestors and ancestry in them, too!

When her sister decides to go back to the theater, Adelaide Fernside finds herself caring for her nephew. In order to what is best for the child, she decides she needs a husband. Edmund Broadbank and his brother discover that their brother Adam may have left a son, an heir, when he died. They want very much to find their nephew. Both Adelaide and Edmund call on Bessie Dove-Lyon at the Lyon’s Den for help in finding spouses, and in Edmund’s case a chance to find and speak to Adelaide. After a series of not-too-easy wagers compliments of Mrs. Dove Lyon, Edmund gets his wishes, all in one lovely package, Adelaide. This is an enjoyable story with great characters. Edmund and Addy fit together perfectly. Little Adam is delightful. There is some mystery, a little danger, and a bit of steam. A good read and nice addition to the Lyon’s Den World.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily reviewing it.

Addy was waiting for Mrs. Dove-Lyon, to see if she could find a husband for her, so she could protect her nephew. Her sister, Lily, the actress had a affair with the Vicount Moreland and had his baby without telling him, after a falling out. Addy used her last coins to pay Mrs. Dove-Lyon for her matchmaking services. Meanwhile Edmund Broadband was seeking The Lyon's Den madame to speak to the actress that had his brother's child, then to seek a wife for himself.
Unbeknownst to them the Madame planned to have them meet and marry, if all went well. They both were attracted to each other, at their meeting, hopefully together they could protect the little boy from greedy, thugs that wanted to take the boy, who was the heir to Vicount Adam Moreland, who had died earlier. With the help of his brother Vicount
Colin, Captain Coventry and Gavin King of Bow Street Runners, they prevented the blackmail, attacks to their family. The best part is the love that grew between Edmund and Daddy thru all the danger and intrigue.
This story will be enjoyed by everyone who loves happy ever after though spiced with danger.

Adelaide Fernside is the responsible sister. When her sister, the actress, ends up with child by her now dead lover, Adam Broadbank, Adelaide takes little Adam to raise as her own. Desperate for money to survive, she seeks out Mrs.Dove-Lyon to arrange for a husband. Edmund Broadbank and his younger brother are looking for the babe sired by Adam and his lover. Edmund goes to Mrs. Dove-Lyon for help to find her and to seek a wife. Mrs. Dove-Lyon is very good at manipulation. Adelaide and Edmund are fated to be together. Greed is the instigation for blackmail. Interesting note. Thoughts from Mrs. Dove-Lyon are more prevalent in this book. Love always grows quickly with her choice of couples. Very little implied sex and the most adorable little boy.
This is one of my favorite series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

Edmund and Addy are both strong characters who play well off one another. Young Adam is a nice addition to the piece as he helps meld Edmund and Addy together as a family with him as their well beloved son. There is a darker element in this tale which keeps the reader on the edge of their seat waiting to see who is revealed as the blackmailer. More evil is afoot as the story plays out. Descriptions of the characters, both young and old are delightful and Colin’s booming voice is cause for a giggle or two at times. A strong plot keeps the reader engaged and excited to see what will happen next. The world building is wonderful as our newlyweds travel from one estate to another. An excellent addition to the Lyon’s Den collection!

In the past, I've enjoyed reading books by this author, but, this one is a bit irritating to read seeing that some things just don't add up. For instance, a child born out of wedlock simply cannot make inherit . The law of primogeniture prohibits this. The child has to be legitimately born.

A well crafted historical romance. I do not read historical books often, but it is a pleasure when I escape real life and go into the past where life was somewhat simpler, but still had danger lurking.

I throughly enjoyed this lovely story. If definitely puts me in the mood to read a few more historicals before going back to read my go-to contemporary books!

Confusing. A bastard child will never inherit a title. I didn't follow whether or not they decided to claim Adam as the true heir or how it would affect Honeywell's case. The point of the blackmail scheme was not clear. Nine months after she announced Addy's pregnancy the baby would not be newborn. It would have been at least a month old but more like two months old.

I would have given 5 stars if it hadn’t been for the fact that it kept stating the baby was the heir. The baby was illegitimate so could not inherit. Apart from that this was another really enjoyable read in the Lyon’s Den series.

I like all aspects of this book and the previous brother, Colins story as well. Couldn’t get over a bit about rightful heirs and it really made the book a bit frustrating as I wanted to scream every time the heir situation was mentioned.
Other than that the book is well written and lovely.

This story was totally spoilt for me by the bizarre insistence of the characters that an illegitimate baby boy was the heir to the viscountcy. I mean yes the baby is their nephew and yes they can provide for him but he can never inherit a title or entailed property. I perhaps could have overlooked a one-off remark but ten references throughout the book was a bit too hard for me to ignore. Not Capiivated I’m Afraid

3.0 out of 5 stars Impossible Plot
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 30, 2023
This is a well-written story with unusually correct spelling and punctuation. What a pity it has an impossible plot as an illegitimate child would not have been the heir to a viscount. I had hoped one of the main characters would have spotted the misunderstanding and corrected it but it was not to be as it continues to the very end. A simple alteration to make the baby's father a younger son would have solved this problem and allowed me to give more stars.
