About the Author

When Mell Eight was in high school she wrote a short story for an English class. The assignment was for no more than five pages, yet she had turned in ten and the story wasn't completed. Her teacher was impressed, but writing stories for fun was her main source of procrastination from homework; handing in an assignment that actually asked her to write fiction was too good to pass up. Since then Mell has continued writing, posting in many online communities for fanfiction and original fiction and eventually branching into slash fiction. She mostly writes paranormal or fantasy stories, but has been seen exploring the real world once or twice.

When Mell Eight was in high school, she discovered dragons. Beautiful, wondrous creatures that took her on epic adventures both to faraway lands and on journeys of the heart. Mell wanted to create dragons of her own, so she put pen to paper. Mell Eight is now known for her own soaring dragons, as well as for other wonderful characters dancing across the pages of her books. While she mostly writes paranormal or fantasy stories, she has been seen exploring the real world once or twice.

This is the 3rd book in the series afterFinding the Wolf (The Dragon's Hoard) and Breaking the Shackles (The Dragon's Hoard). The writing gets better with each book but his one on baby dragon Tori and his witch Jerney is the best. Physically a 17 years old human but emotionally and mentally really just a baby dragon, Tori has to be the cutest and most adorable character. The introductory scene of Tori with his pretties, ignoring his Uncle Bast, is a hoot. Jerney, an honorable and caring young man, is perfect for our baby dragon with his patience and love. I like that the writer gives us Jerney's childhood background, Jerney's own experience with his younger siblings, which gives Jerney the wisdom to care for baby Tori. So there is no usual typical sexual MM romance as they have to wait until Tori is fifty years old, human terms, lol. But who cares! The genuine and convincing love and care between Tori and Jerney is even better. The plot is enjoyable too but it is the character of Tori which makes this one shines. My only complaint is I do not have enough of Tori and Jerney together. I would love a story on this two until Tori is 50 years old!

I loved everything about Jerney and Tori. Tori at 17 is just a baby dragon and Jerney in his early 20s is a very strong spell caster. Both meet when Jerney returns Tori's hatching gem which had been stolen. Upon sight Tori knows that Jerney is important to him and without both of them knowing claims Jerney as part of his hoard.

What ensues is the most adorable and endearing start of their relationship. Nothing sexual can happen, since Tori is a baby dragon stuck in the body of a human teenager. But the loving and caring relationship that begins will have you awwwing to death and will leave you with the sweetest giddy feeling.

40 years may seem like a long wait for Jerney and Tori to start their life as partners but when they have forever ahead of them surely it is just a blink of an eye for them.

One of my favorite scenes is Tori making shapes with the rubies in his hoard. If that doesn't tell you how young emotionally he is then I don't know what else could.

Okay, this is a third book in the series and I have not read the others yet, but I did not feel like I was lost at all, apparently it is same world, but couples are new in each book (siblings, friends of the previous couples).

This story was so very cute. I do not have a consistent criteria of when I feel that the book is so cute that it can hurt my teeth with sweetness and when I am just signing happily and saying Aw[...] But this is the situation when I am saying Aw[...] Who knew seventeen year old baby dragons could be so adorable :-), especially when they also look like human teenagers.

It is a beginning of the romance, not even a romance yet, no explicit sex, so beware of that as well.

Oh and it is not too long, see page count, but I was okay with that.

Such a great story! Of course, like all really good stories, it ended too soon, but the end scene is so heartful that you have to forgive Mell for not giving us more. One of the things I loved about this story was how the baby dragon was portrayed. Being born in human form, Tori has been living with the royal family, where an 17yo male is supposed to learn responsibility, but Tori is a dragon, so his mind is only as old as a 9yo boy. So, when someone steals his hatching gem, nobody understands his devestation until Jerney, a powerful witch, returns it and turns Tori's life in a new direction. I loved the relationships and how they were played out. So many love stories start when both parties are of sexual maturity, but not in this book, this love is a growing (up) love...

A light hearted read that you will zip right through! I dare anyone to read this and not fall head over heels in love with Tori. Seriously how can you not love a baby dragon? I want one exactly like him since I can't have Tori himself. He is taken already! By a lovely man who appreciates and understands that while Tori may appear basically a grown man on the outside he is still very young mentally. I am having a terrible time trying to decide if I want another book of them in the future, or if it should stay just as it is and let me dream. This is one book that I shall read many times over just to smile.

At first I was not sure if I should buy this book or not but now I am happy that I did.
It is such a sweet story and the characters are very likable. I fell in love with the dragon "baby" and the witch from the beginning on. I really wish that their story would continue(50 years later).
Don't want to write spoiler so I just say I really enjoyed this book and would buy it again.
Of course not so good is that it is just a novella, I could have read 100 pages more.

All the Dragon and Supernatural Consultant series by Mell Eight were wonderful stories for feeling good about all that is right with the world by an author who was apparently gifted with the ability to create tales that as a child family storytellers told us that warmed us as by a fire under the stars.
