An Elf With No Name (The Spires Saga Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 51 ratings

The time of the War Mages - humans with magic flowing through their blood - has long passed. While they once determined the outcome of conflicts between rival kingdoms, the industrial revolution has rendered the use of magic on the battlefield unnecessary. And so, they fade away into the background...

Damian Spires is a slacker of sorts, content with sliding through life on the odd job of fortifying homes or ridding trees of pesky imps. But when he stumbles upon an unconscious elf in an alley on his walk home from weekly poker night, he faces a variety of questions: Who is this woman? Where did she come from? Is someone looking for her?

Focusing on helping the strange woman to adapt to the terrifying new world she finds herself in, Damian decides to protect her from those who seek to do her harm. As they learn more about each other, they discover some truths about themselves as well.

What they don't know is that there is another power at play, stalking in the shadows. Someone is responsible for the elven woman entering their world, and they are more ready to expend whatever resources are required to regain their bounty.

Mortimer Langford is the penname of a certain individual located in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

He is not in the witness protection program. He is not a lottery winner trying to avoid deadbeat family members. He does not have a crazed stalker named Tracy who is trying to find him in order to steal some cats just because he told her that all of her missing cats actually willingly ran away to escape her negativity.

He simply appreciates his anonymity.

Mortimer Langford writes in a variety of different styles, but tends to focus on novels, particularly fantasy and horror with a splash of sci-fi and contemporary here and there. In October of 2022, his debut novel, An Elf With No Name, was released.

Mortimer Langford is a Scorpio. This does NOT cause him irritation when each and every horoscope proudly proclaims that he is angry or untrusting of others, no matter what his wife might insinuate to the contrary.

We’ve all known someone like Damian: rough around the edges, but with a heart of gold. He may be a smart ass and a little morally flexible, but his loyalty and compassion more than make up for it. With how he’s treats our FMC it’s hard not to have a crush on him.

This book is truly entertaining, with narration and dialogue that had me laughing out loud. Lots of action, with both magic and modern weapons that had me on the edge of my seat. If you’re not into strong language or violence this may not be for you. The first of a series, I look forward to seeing what’s next in store for Damian and company.

I was thrilled to be able to ARC read this book when the author asked me to do so.

This is the first book by Mortimer Langford that I have ever read. I finished reading it in a single day because it was so enjoyable. I'll admit that the cover initially turned me off. I had no idea what I was getting into. Nevertheless, ignore the cover completely. I laughed all the way through this book because of its hilarious content with a little added romance. It would make a good film because it was full of adventure and action. There are demons, vampires, werewolves, elves, magical elements, and humans in this book—it has everything you could possibly want in a fantasy book. This book is easy to read and has a captivating world-building thanks to the author's attention to detail. I enjoyed the characters as well in this book.

We follow our war mage, Damian. You get to watch him as he goes about his daily life, helping people with odd jobs. Throughout the book, he appears to run into trouble and leads a carefree life. He helps a woman who has no memory in navigating a strange new environment.

Anyone looking for an enjoyable fantasy book should read this one, in my opinion.

With elements of humor, magic and a little politics, An Elf With No Name was a quick, fun read!

I do wish there was more time spent on world building and getting to know the characters, but the ones we did get more details on were really interesting and drove the story. There was a lot of action with monsters and fight scenes, and the sarcasm and humor were mostly well timed.

If you're looking for a light fantasy read, this one is worth picking up.

If you enjoy stories of magic, intrigue and adventure this book is a must. The author does a great job of introducing you to a magical world with ease. Your attention is captured throughout making it hard to put the book down. When finished I was left wanting more. I only hope the author doesn’t keep us in suspense too long before writing the next installment. I highly recommend this book.

    3.5⭐️

Hmmm. Let me start by saying I'm happy that I didn't ignore this one based on the cover. That being said. The dry humor seen throughout the book makes the cover the perfect topper to what's inside.

What do you get? Damian, the war mage, finds an elf. Said elf is from a different reality and doesn't know much of his world. Damian becomes her teacher, her protector, her lover. In a world with demons, demonesses, vampires, werewolves, mages, magic, and humans. There is a lot to follow.

While it starts out slow, it picks up. If nothing else, the sarcasm and one-liners keep you interested and wanting more. The

Damian Spires is an irreverent smart-ass just barely getting through each day armed with wit and magic. I loved all the characters in this very original story. The writer’s dry humor and flair for unexpected plot twists is delightful and refreshing. More, please!

I really liked the comedic moments and sarcasm!

I really enjoyed this book! It was easy to get into and the way the author builds the world is captivating! There’s war mages, werewolves, vampires and demons in a modern setting.

You follow Damian, a war mage, in his day-to-day as he gets himself into trouble, finds trouble and overall is just trying to live his life!

There was a great amount of adventure, banter and sarcasm! The little romance that existed was a little by-the-by and rushed but the main story is great! I’m looking forward to more!

An unconscious elf is discovered in an alley by war mage Damian, who chooses to take her home. There are more people in search of her and Damian would stop at nothing to protect her.

Damian is one character i loved for his confidence and wit. 😍🥰

I traveled through a fantastical universe with vampires, werewolves, war mages, demons, and a unique elf while reading this novel. I recommend this book if you are a fantasy lover and I must say this will definitely be a great a movie material. 😉
