The Younglings have matured and to say they find themselves in mayhem in this book in the Younglings series by Helena Craggs would be an understatement. The book is fast paced and full of the excitement expected of this author. I personally wonder what it would be like to own a 'hell hound.' Bears pondering, eh? I adore Mrs. D. And I laugh until the tears run when the 'happiness vultures' appear.
Helena doesn't hesitate to offer sage wisdom in this work either. My favorite line is "If someone you love becomes a memory, then that memory becomes a treasure." Profound words. This book has it all. I listened to the audio 'read and listen' version. The accents and the different English wording were delightful. Give that a try if you have not yet. Highly recommended.

This was my introduction to The Younglings Series and to author Helena. I have not previously read any of the books in this series. At first I was a little confused as to who was who and their relationships between one another. However Helena did a great job reintroducing all the characters. relationships and powers so this made it easy to be read as a standalone if you just happen to pick it up. I was able to quickly grasp who everyone was and their roles as a youngling. This story had it all. We got various storylines, characters, different elements of science fiction, romance and mystery, time travel and talk of the afterlife and moving on. I enjoyed Quinn and Eve and their relationship, his love for her is so deep and scary in a sense that she can be used against him. The cast of evil characters was so good and at times infuriated me. My own lack of faith in people's intentions had me guessing some of the people involved in the younglings. Overall I enjoyed this read. I have added the others to my TBR and I am anxiously waiting for the continuation of this series.

Author Helena M.Craggs’ third Younglings book, called Mayhem & Magic is a treat to read. Like a piece of delicious chocolate you can’t stop eating. I read and loved the first and second books in her series, Shadows & Magic and Fire & Magic, and think this third offering is the best of all. Although these books are written for the YA (young adult) audience, they are fun for readers of all ages, especially those who happily let their imagination run wild as they suspend their disbelief - a key tenet of all fantasy.

Here’s a brief overview of the Younglings premise for any reader new to the series. The books take place mainly in London and are told from the point of view of Quinn Carter, a half-demon who's a nice guy with a wicked sense of humor. Yes, that’s what I said. He leads a group of other supernatural teens with a variety of magical characteristics and powers. Their sworn mission is to protect other supernaturals and humans from evil paranormal persons, to use that term loosely.

The Younglings crew includes a half-angel, a half-vampire, a witch, a ghost, a wolf shifter, a reformed vampire, and a normal human with mad computer skills. There are other fascinating characters in these books, some of adult age, such as Quinn’s father. He’s a Demon King who’s incredibly powerful and used to be, well, more of a demon before he had a son he loves very much. He’s often called on to help the Younglings deal with the many paranormal problems talented author Craggs weaves into each book. The books have plenty of action, tension, dollops of humor here and there and highlight some of the angst all teenagers deal with such as self-image, dating/relationships, and schoolwork.

Book 3 Mayhem & Magic raises the stakes for the Younglings as they face more formidable foes and life and death situations than ever before. They are also confronted with surprising revelations and a dangerous betrayal. All this added up to a great, fast-paced read I couldn’t put down. I highly recommend this book and the series, best read in order if possible. I’d be upset I already finished books 1-3 if I hadn’t heard book 4 is in the works.

5.0 out of 5 stars As Addictive as its Predecessors

The Younglings Mayhem & Magic, the third instalment in this paranormal fantasy series for young adults, is an absolute addiction just like its predecessors.

Quinn Carter and his close-knit group of friends, who are more like family, find themselves facing a whole new level of nightmares and chaos. Their days are turned upside down while their nights are plagued with unsettling dreams, especially for Quinn, who happens to be a half-demon. Oh, and let's not forget the added element of time travel that spices things up.

I particularly enjoy how each book in the series connects back to the previous ones. Characters that made your skin crawl and unresolved situations make a reappearance. When I discovered a certain witch resurfacing in book three (no spoilers, I promise!), I couldn't help but internally groan. If trouble had a name in The Younglings world, it would undoubtedly be Joanna. She's the kind of character who instantly sends chills down your spine with her deceptively sweet smile. But of course, our beloved author, Helena, wouldn't let Quinn's nemesis vanish into thin air. I simply adore how she has crafted Joanna's character. The way she skillfully plays with the reader's emotions and sense of impending danger is truly remarkable. I found myself torn between hoping she would be taken down to the demon realm or continue wreaking havoc in evermore creative ways.

The introduction of time travel to the 17th century adds an enthralling dimension to the story. I found myself captivated by the author's attention to detail, vividly bringing to life the behaviours, fashions, and customs of that era, juxtaposed with the reactions of modern-day teens suddenly thrust into the unknown.

But witches aren't the only source of trouble for our eclectic group of teenagers. There's also a mysterious stranger in town, one who brings not just trouble but complete and utter destruction, laced with a twisted desire for revenge. Now, isn't that just the perfect icing on the cake?

Everything about The Younglings series is pure magic. I didn't want Mayhem & Magic to end, and I couldn't bear to put it down because I was desperate to know what would happen next. This is the brilliance of Helena's writing. She possesses a magical touch that breathes life into the world she has created, with vivid descriptions that transport the reader into the heart of The Younglings, the coven of Witches, and the enigmatic realm of demons. Every character, be they witches, demons, or other mythical beings, feels remarkably real and unique, making it all the more relatable.

The Younglings Mayhem & Magic is an embodiment of perfection, and I can guarantee that once you delve into this series, you will join the vast community of readers who are absolutely enthralled by the world Helena has crafted and the extraordinary heroes who strive to uphold goodness in every possible way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great series!
Reviewed in Spain on May 13, 2023
I am loving this series but I think Mayhem and Magic is my favourite book so far. I loved the time travel episodes, where Quinn and Eve find themselves in the seventeenth century. It was very interesting to see them thrown into another century and see them struggle to fit in so nobody noticed they didn't belong. Another great addition was uncle Lucas, a clever demon (Lucifer?) who was so much fun to read. The Younglings are growing up and it’s great to see their development and growth. As always with H.M. Craggs’ books, there were lots of witty lines that made me chuckle, and this is one of the things I love the most about the Younglings books.

Have you ever loved a book so much you struggled with the review? Well, that’s why it’s taken me so long to write this one!

I don’t even know where to begin. I mean, this book *chefs kiss*

Once again we return to the chaotic world of the Spooky Crew and I couldn’t be happier.

They are your typical group of friends making their way through life. Dealing with the day to day stresses of school, relationships, families, oh and the odd demon-trying-to-take-over-the-world too, so the usual stuff teens deal with, right? 😂

That’s what I love about this series. This group of friends still go through what all kids do as they grow and navigate their way through life. Yes, they are unique with “special abilities” but their emotions and day to day experiences are real, and that’s what makes the characters so likeable.

Mayhem & Magic is by far my favourite.
The Spooky Crew still help out lost ghosts, but new dangers are lurking in the dark. Dangers that are closer than they realise. Dangers that put the lives of the crew in jeopardy.

Mayhem & Magic is fast-paced, action packed and full of delightful (& challenging) surprises including new characters, time travel, death & a demon called Torrock (who I adore!).
Fear not, there are plenty of hilarious & beautiful moments that will make you laugh & smile.

I cannot rate this book enough, I just wish I had book 4 now! 🧛🏼🩸

4.0 out of 5 stars Young adult, paranormal, some romance going on too.

I have enjoyed each of the three books written by this author so far.

There's always something happening in these books. I would also class it as a 'portal-fantasy' as a great deal of the travelling from place to place is done via teleportation of one form or another.

Likable characters, with a mixture of different sexual persuasions that makes this a series that should appeal to a wider audience.

I shall be looking forward to the final book of this series sometime later in 2023/24.
