4.5 out of 5 stars 267 ratings

Mistaken for a criminal, a noblewoman navigates a world of danger and intrigue, finding unexpected, forbidden love with her captor...

Spanish noblewoman, Clodovea de Soverosa, finds the glitter and gossip of Society stifling. Seeking solace in a secluded study while attending a ball, she inadvertently crosses paths with a mysterious stranger on a clandestine mission. Her encounter plunges her into a world of intrigue she's ill-prepared for. Mistaken for a criminal, Clodovea is swept into a whirlwind of danger and deception. As she grapples with her unforeseen circumstances, she discovers a strength within herself she never knew she had. Amidst the chaos, she finds herself drawn to her captor, a man she knows she should despise, but her heart suggests otherwise.

Lucius Westbrook, a loyal servant of the Crown, is on a mission to protect his country at all costs. His world turns upside down when he mistakenly kidnaps Clodovea, believing her to be a threat to national security. Faced with the consequences of his error, Lucius proposes a marriage of convenience to safeguard her reputation. As he struggles to maintain his façade of indifference, he finds himself falling for the fiery and resilient woman he's sworn to protect. Lucius must navigate his duty to his country and his growing feelings for Clodovea, realizing that her forgiveness is not easily won.

In this tale of mistaken identity and accidental abduction, Clodovea and Lucius are thrust together in a precarious duel of secrets and passion. As they face societal pressures and personal demons, they must decide whether their forced union can bloom into true love. In a world where every step could lead to heartbreak, can they find a path to happiness, or will their love be lost to the shadows of duty and honor?______________________________________________________________

From the Author

Dearest Reader,

The first several chapters of MISSION AT MIDNIGHT popped into my mind early one morning when I couldn't sleep. As a pantser, I don't normally know that much about my stories before I start writing. I am especially excited to bring you a non-traditional Regency era heroine. Not only is Clodovea Spanish, but she also possesses a full figure. You will watch her blossom from an awkward, shy, ugly duckling into an elegant, graceful, and confident swan.

Hers and Lucius Westbrook's road to happily ever after is strewn with hardship. Not only does he mistake her for a notorious spy and abduct her, but he also leaves a trail behind that incriminates Clodovea. Lucius does such a thorough job that her family is expelled from England, and she suddenly finds herself in even greater peril.

Lucius and Clodovea must learn to trust and forgive as they overcome several obstacles on their rocky journey to loving each other. She finds she has more courage and confidence than she realizes as he discovers he's capable of great tenderness and compassion.

Other characters in MISSION AT MIDNIGHT who have books coming soon are Adolphus Westbrook—MARQUESS AT MIDNIGHT, Althelia Westbrook—HOLLY, MISTLETOE, AND MIDNIGHT SNOW, Eva Westbrook—THE WALLFLOWER'S MIDNIGHT WALTZ, Leonidas Westbrook—MINUET AT MIDNIGHT, and Fletcher Westbrook—KISS A RAKE AT MIDNIGHT.

I didn’t want this story to end. What a fun story with a beautiful romance. Perception is everything, we see what we want to see until we have to face the truth. Seeing Clodeovea’s growth and the softening of Lucius’s heart makes this a great story. I love a good spy story and a historical romance, this gives me a taste of both!

Lucius is the Brother who's working as a spy for the Home Office. When a innocent Spanish Miss goes into a room to hide during a ball at the Spanish Ambassador's, she encounters Lucius who believes her to be a spy and abducts her. This is definitely a enemy to friend plot. I enjoyed it although it felt like Lucius pivoted from intense hate to guilt to love extremely fast. Otherwise a good read.

When Clodovea accidentally interrupts Lucius Westbrook’s midnight mission at the Spanish Ambassador’s home, he is absolutely convinced he has caught the infamous enemy agent Astraea, and he takes her with him as he makes his escape. Clodovea tries to tell him she is not an agent, that she the sister of the Spanish Attaché. What will happen when he finally discovers she is telling the truth? She is not certain of his solution, but if she must choose between the convent and marriage to Lucius, he wins. Will it be a marriage of convenience, or maybe something more? This is a well-written fast-paced story with intrigue, danger, a bit of humor, and romance. I love the characters in this series. Lucius and Clodovea have a less than wonderful start and a bumpy road to happily ever after. The Westbrook family is delightful, welcoming and fun. Great read!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Lucous and Cordovia, I know I miss spelled them, sorry. Fascinating story of wrong place wrong time, or mixed up identity. Secrets, spies, kidnapping and family integrity . Great story

I thought it was a very good story as all of the books that I've read by Collette Cameron. I have only two major points to clarify. When speaking or reading Spanish, all vowels are pronounced. In the case of the heroine, although Clodovea may be a different language, in Spanish, you would pronounce her name as Cloh-do-ve-a. My second point is her uncle's name: Uncle (or Tio) Gregorio, not Gregoria. He is a male noun so takes on the male suffix 'o'. If you make it end in an 'a', then he would be Aunt (or Tia) Gregoria.
Thank you again for writing an otherwise wonderful tale!!

A young lady has arrived from Spain to join her two brothers who work for the Spanish ambassador to England. She has a most unprouncable name, I just called her Chloe. She manages to get herself kidnapped during a ball at the ambassadors residence by a British spy looking for a wanted female spy.
Once Lucius figures out that she is not a spy, he has to keep her safe. And the fun begins.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Some of the secondary characters are priceless. Best of all, Lucius is not an earl or a duke, but he is a man making his way in the world without pretense.
I gave this novel 4 stars.

    Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.

Publishers Description covers what's in the book and not a lot more I can say, except Clodovea was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Lucius made a mistake, a big mistake kidnapping Clodovea. Once he realizes his mistake, he realizes he's fallen in love with the young lady. Does she love him enough to forgive him? May seem pretty straight forward, but it's not. Add everything listed and you have a great read. A clean romance.
