When the black mist came, everything changed.

An unusual anomaly in outer space opened portals. A black mist poured through, bringing something along with it. War fell upon the human race.

Generations later the fighting continued...

Zoe spent her whole life training how to fight monsters and demons—how to kill them. Not once did that curriculum include falling in love with one. Now, she’s faced with a hard choice: betray one to save the other.

Will she side with the family and friends who have always been at her side, or trade it all for the romance she so deeply desires?

Odds are, no matter which path she follows, her heart won’t make it out unscathed.

Creatures of the Night is a new book by author CA King. I was excited to pick up a new book by this author because I always enjoy her storytelling. This book is set in a dystopian, science-fiction world. Zoe lives in a world that has been at war for generations fighting monsters and demons. She has been always been a fighter, but what does she do if falls for the enemy? Whom will she choose, the family she loves or for romance? I always enjoy books by this author. I tend to read straight through to the end and this was no exception. Zoe is a strong female questioning everything she has learned about herself and those they have been battling. I like that she has to face some internal issues and not just physical tests. I would like to know if we will get more from this world or if this will be a standalone book. There is a lot more that can be explored. I look forward to picking up more books from this author soon.

This was a fantastic read and I felt like it really had something for everyone. From romance to paranormal, to mythology, warriors, and lots of danger, you really embark on a journey throughout this read.

This author built an incredible fantasy world one that can really immerse you into the story and keep you flipping pages wanting to know more. More about the world, the characters, and what will happen. Her writing style really brought the world to life and made it believable; I think that was my favorite part.

Absolutely beautifully written and will definitely reread it in the future! Can’t wait to see what else she has in store.

I absolutely love books that mix paranormal and mythology so Creatures Of The Night by C. A. King really caught my eye. I was very intrigued to see it had vampires, werewolves, and ghosts as well as demons, gorgons, centaurs, and gods. What else could anyone want in a book! King also has a way of writing that is so beautiful and gripping, for example “ The sun had finished its shift for the day, leaving keys in the moon's hand until it returned once more.” Her writing made this story have its own heartbeat. This isn't the first book I've read by her and she never disappoints! Zoe is also a real easy character to feel for, having the abilities she does but being stuck on the sidelines. Creatures Of The Night was also so unpredictable as soon as I thought I knew what was going to happen the whole thing did a 180 degree turn and I was taken aback. A book hasn’t surprised me like that in a while. I recommend this book to any paranormal fantasy lover! You will be in for a real treat!

This book starts out a bit slow for my liking but the longer I read it, the faster I was flipping through pages. Interesting take on a world apocalypse. Zoe and her twin brother Zilk become of age and go to an academy where they learn to use their abilities. Zoe is a magic welder and her brother is a warrior. She is rumored to be crazy. She has flaming red hair. Little does everyone know that she is actually an immortal god who can bring an end to the plague that has taken over the earth.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It is not my first book by this author nor will it be my last. C.A. King is definitely becoming a favorite.

    Things I loved most:
    -Strong female lead
    -supernatural
-relatable elements ( dating the wrong guy, being different, betrayal)
-easy to read and follow along
    -Simone
    -the tree
-how much Zoe is coming into her powers

    Things I disliked:
    -the book ending

    Things I would change:
-at times it felt like the story jumped a bit kind of read like how a tv show would take place. It didn’t take away from the story but it had me question if I skipped a page

Anyways I need a sequel. I have to know what happens next. Will they fight the humans or vampires first? Can they reproduce and will the offspring be even more powerful? Will we get a glimpse into what really happened with the black mist?

I think C.A. King had a real opportunity to make Zoe a real heroin. A great chance to make a strong leading lady, but she spent the entire book confused about who she was, what she was doing and who she wanted to be. This in turn kept me a bit confused throughout the story as well. Ended up getting tricked by multiple men in her life and just never really developed into a solid character. The men were extremely unlikeable. I was also unsure how much time passed in this book. It read like it was a matter of days, but then some instances eluded to it being a very long time.

This was the first C. A. King book I’ve read and it was pretty well written. I’m always iffy trying new authors in the fantasy genre because there’s a lot of world building that typically occurs. While that part was a little watered down and could have been done a little more, the story itself was pretty cool. I also think she could have had a liiiiiittle more character development for the FMC. All in all, it was a decent read and I’ll probably try another of this author’s books.

I have read several books by this author and have not been disappointed yet! I absolutely love the easy writing style and character depth. The fact that this is a paranormal fantasy definitely was a plus. Zoe has been taught that all of the monsters came from the mist and that all of them are bad. She was born into this world and never knew life before the portals opened. As she gets older it is time for her to go to the academy to learn to use magic but can she really trust what she is being taught? As she begins to question everything she has ever known after a chance meeting in the woods she will learn some hard truths. Zoe can’t help but wonder if she will ever find where she belongs. This was such a great read and I would love to read more of Zoe’s story!
