Meeting Greene in a neighboring town, his safe run is hijacked and Barnum flees for home to find a home of ashes, and Barnum and Greene or force to flee Arkansas.
They flee Arkansas by hopping a freight train North and end up in Omaha. Bo meets a young Tejano singer, Lydia Fuentes, the daughter of two exiled revolutionaries. They get married, have children and try to settle down in a normal life. Early Greene's deadly past and a Barnum Family Legacy guarantees Bo will never be safe.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2019I thoroughly enjoyed cuddling up to this book drinking my hot cups of coffee wrapped in a thick blanket under the AC. I believe Rob Cooke is an amazing and talented author and I have enjoyed this unique piece of fiction with all its southern charm and doses of hard reality that hit America back in those days.
I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone and I can't wait to read Red Christmas and The Long Song of Miriam Landry.
Two thumbs up.👍👍
- Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2017A well executed timepiece of southern fiction starting at prohibition and on ward. A man's redemption comes through his daughter, and life is meant for living in the present and never about falling into the past while wondering what-ifs. Beautifully crafted, I enjoyed this very much.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2021This is the most racist, misogynistic, just plain weird book I’ve ever read. I can’t believe this got published. Cracker.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2021I did not purchase this book, I read it at the behest of a friend. I enjoyed it's view into another place and time in America. I did not think it worthy of the hyperbolic praise of most reviewers nor of the condemnation of one reviewer for some of it's content and for being "weird." Racism and misogyny were there just as they were in Mark Twain's time and are in our time. Many artists paint what is or was, not what they wish for. Also, the book was marred by some flubs that should have been un-flubbed by an editor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps the pages turning long into the night...
As a Brit with a passion for rural life in the American South, this book ticked all my boxes. But don't just take my word for it. This book stands upon its own merits, and paints a glorious panorama, rich with three-dimensional characters, authentic dialogue, and a storyline that keeps the pages turning long into the night.
Robert Cook is a masterful author and I look forward to reading the sequel to Moonshiner's Legacy.
Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good
I must admit it took me some time to get into it but when I did, it was quite enjoyable to read. Can't believe that the kids mum betrayed them that way and the father being dead by two people. I would definitely recommend buying this book.
