The conditions are deplorable, and the constant jeers from patrons, intolerable, but she has no choice but to stay.

The next time Garahan sees her, she has bruises on her wrists and cheek. When she is cornered in the back room of the tavern, he whisks her to safety. For the first time in his life, Garahan listens to his heart, and willingly hands it over to the brown-eyed lass with work-worn hands.

Melinda is drawn to the handsome-as-sin Irishman with the broad shoulders and big heart. She tries to ignore the pull of attraction, but cannot resist his dark brown eyes and dimpled smile. Can he see past her imperfections to her heart?

As the lass is healing, Garahan must uncover a new source of vicious slander, and threats of scandal, aimed at the duke’s family. Leaving Melinda in the care of the duke’s London staff is the last thing he wants to do, but Garahan has a vow to keep and a duty to perform. When she is reported missing, Garahan vows to bring her back and never let her go!

C.H. was born in Aiken, South Carolina, but her parents moved back to northern New Jersey where she grew up. She believes in fate, destiny, and love at first sight. C.H. fell in love at first sight when she was seventeen. She was married for 41 wonderful years until her husband lost his battle with cancer. Soul mates, their hearts will be joined forever. They have three grown children-one son-in-law, two grandsons, two rescue dogs, and two rescue grand-cats. Her characters rarely follow the synopsis she outlines for them but C.H. has learned to listen to her characters! If we have not met yet, I’m delighted to meet you! Here’s a little bit about me…

I have been writing romance novels for almost half my life, well at least for the last 30 years. I’m a diehard romantic and have to confess the broad shoulders and wicked glint in the brilliant green eyes of a stranger had my breath snagging in my breast, my heart beating madly, and my future flashing before my eyes. At the age of seventeen, I’d met the man I knew I was going to spend the rest of my life with.

I write Historical & Contemporary Romance featuring characters that I know so well: hardheaded heroes and feisty heroines! They rarely listen to me and in fact, I think they enjoy messing with my plans for them. Over the years I have learned to listen to them! I have always used family names in my books and love adding bits and pieces of my ancestors and ancestry in them, too!

    I enjoyed this story of two people finding their way to each other. The h hasn't had it easy since she lost her parents. She thinks she has found salvation in a cousin of her stepfathers, but alas, it isn't so. He works her to the bone and beats her, and this is where our H saves the day.

    The H is a leading guard for the Duke and his family. He can't stand to see injustice, especially to a women. He witnesses over a course of a few days how the h is being treated and comes to her rescue. I loved their connection and how they cared for everyone.

    Lovemaking within marriage, described once and heat level 1.5 out of 5, filled with love.

    Nasty villains who get what's coming to them. Interesting main and secondary characters, which offer humor too.

    No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, romantic, suspenseful, violence, twists and tiny tad of spice.

    I can't improve on the blurb, just giving you extra tidbits to decide whether to purchase. I've read all the books in this series, can be a stand alone, but you'll enjoy how the guard came to be. I recommend this series and author. (ljb)

    The series of books about The Duke’s Guard continues on with another well written book, full of well-known characters and an intriguing story line. Probably one of the best things about this series is getting to revisit with previous characters, getting insights into the changes in their lives and the continued interactions that further enlarge the overall story of the Duke’s extended family and Guard. I am certainly looking forward to the next one and the more extensions of the characters and their stories.

    This book is about the efforts of the Duke's Guards, namely James Garahan. How he found his other half of his heart, in a dirty bar in the underbelly of London, looking for in formation, of slander against the Duke's family. The Guard, Coventry's Men and King's Bow Street Runners were all looking for the source of the slander to stop and protect the family. Melinda a barmaid in the seedy tavern was being grabbed by several patrons as she served ale to customers, caught the eye of James, her talked to her and said he could get her a job better pay and safer conditions. He and Tremayn rescued her from the pub. They took her go Dukes house in London to be healed from injuries caused by her cousin at pub. With the help of Emmett O'Malley the healer, Mrs O'Toole and Mrs Wigglesworth they were able to heal the injuries of Melinda. Now for the love story of two very caring and loving people. The characters are so well written you can feel how much the care for others and want to do good for all. I love all of the guards but especially James, who has endured much pain to due his duty. The stories are intertwined with banter between brothers and cousins as they work together and much comradery, with a nudge or punch or two. I love these stories, can hardly wait for the next episode.

Melinda Waring has no where else to go, but to work in the filthiest tavern owned by her abusive cousin. Falling in love at first sight, James is determined to save Melinda as he discovers the source of the ugly rumors concerning the Duke's family. It's an uneven pace in the plot. Events will happen very quickly or very slow. It seems almost impossible to have a romance with so much evil. I wouldn't blink or you might miss something. Multiple characters overlap in all the books in the series and I recommend reading them in order. Descriptive violence and mild open bedroom door.

    James Garahan works for the Duke of Wyndmere as a guard. He along with his brothers and cousins work for the duke. James is gathering information for the rumors that are being spread about the duke's family. While at a tavern in the underbelly of London waiting on his counterpart he notices the bar maid, she smiles at him when she serves him.

    James notice that she is injured and tells her he could take her away and take her some place safe. Melinda tells him she has to get back to work. He comes back to the tavern again and asked if she wants to leave? While he is waiting, he hears a scream, Melinda is being attacked. James removes her from the tavern and takes her to the duke home.

    While Melinda is mending at the duke's home, James is out tracking down who is spreading the rumors. His feeling for Melinda is to the point he wants to marry her, but Melinda feels he can do better as she has a disfigured leg and limps.

    Watching this tender love story progress all the while James is out doing his job.

    Another wonderfully written book by C.H. Admirand. I have loved reading all the book in the Dukes Guard and can’t wait for more.
    James is undercover in the seeder side of London. When he first entered weeks ago he saw a beautiful, kindhearted lass and knew she was his destiny. Melinda was barely surviving on what little food and water her cousin by marriage gave her. James has asked her several times he would help but Melinda is stubborn. When her cousin basically announces he’s given Melinda’s virtue away, James finally steps in and whisks her away.
    He did not realize the depth of her injuries until his cousin Emmitt let’s him know.
    With another threat to the Dukes family, James must ferret out the culprit and also keep Melinda safe.
    A beautifully written story with a great ending.
