Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. I'm giving 3 stars. Mostly because I feel this book is meant for a younger audience. Or at least that's how it reads. I could not get into this story or plot because it all felt rushed and the characters don't stand out. The FMC, Qloey, isn't very likeable. And I don't personally think she had a lot of character growth by the end of the story. And the guys in the story seem to blur together and you forget where each is from or even their names. The plot seems to disappear from main point and it just gets hard to finish. Not a series I'd feel like finishing.

The idea of a matchmaking competition is not new. I started reading the book having a lot of reservations, yet after the first few chapters, the story developed depth and maturity together with princess Qloey. The ideas presented through her interaction and conversations with the boys are very interesting. The suspense until the end was good and the assassination twist gave the story a special flavor.
Qloey develops from an immature girl whose only desire was how to please her mother, to a well rounded compassionate personality and her choice in the end helps her grow in wisdom and steel.
I loved the story, and I bought the next one as soon as I finished reading Qloey's adventures. The author presents a lot of healthy and thought provoking ideas while avoiding stuffing them down our throats. I'm sure the next book will be equally worth reading.

This book captures your attention right from the beginning. Good character development, you really got to know the characters flaws and all.

I think the world building could have been a little better. There are obvious problems within these varied kingdoms that could have been addressed in more detail.

The ending was a little abrupt and left me wanting to know what happens when Qloey goes to claim her Throne, but otherwise this was a very satisfying read.

I enjoyed the humor displayed by the characters in their interactions. It's so easy to hate the Empress and Edgar and even his father. There is nothing really to say about the Emperor, he just seems to be a puppet for the Empress.

I will definitely be reading more from this author. You should too.

A very cerebral princess. 12 suitors. A difficult choice. And an assassin out for her head. A chuckleworthy coming of age story, a fab debut novel and 0 dubloons on Zon at the mo.

17yo Princess Qloey must marry. Her parents, the emperor and empress of Velazia set up the Royal Matchmaking Competition or RMC, the event of a decade where 10 princes, a knight and a commoner (all aged 15-19) will be vying for her hand. It’s duty, not love. Except, what if?

Qloey knows of love based on theatre plays - mostly tragedies of illmatched couples where everyone dies in the end. Her parents are a dire example of what not to do. Enter the husband contestants. Every one of whom is propitiously delighted, auspiciously tickled, optimistically enthralled to be there…until someone shoots at Qloey after all the intros and it’s up to the princess to solve the mystery.

This was hilarious. A mashup of courtly fantasy with elements of fairytales, mythology and modern-day references. Like a princess doing a gymnastic routine as a thank you for the gifts she received. Lol. Or a gift of compassion her fairy goddessmother gave her which resulted in her being turned away from the palace. Or when the contest turns into a modern game-show. And the swearwords… :)

I loved the magic pumpkin carriage of the Late Queen Cinderella. I absolutely loved how Qloey was why-choose for a while in this RH sotuation and then matured to finally make a choice.
After lots of kissing - I mean, 5 boys…? Ahem. It wasn’t just romance tho, it was courtly introgue and the princess using her diplomatic savvy to avoid war with centaurs (I didn’t like their portrayal as simple-minded, but reverse psychology in handling them was brill). And the identity of the assassin as well as the reasons remained edge of the seat til the very end. Humorous fantasy is hard to find, so this was great.

Recommended for lovers of Terry Pratchett, YA fairytale and mythology mashups and silly royal contests.

“Everything was in place; except my nervous system. /…/ Dear unicorns, help me.”

“If there ever was a kiss from one of these boys, one must ask: was it warranted /…/. What if every boy would try to kiss me on a date? Oh, dear.”

Personal character growth sort of stopped, the ending went nowhere, and the next story didn't indicate much evolution. Naivety was off the chart. However, no real regrets reading this one. It was amusing at times, with somewhat interesting world building, character perspectives and had potential.

This is the sort of story I often enjoy. However, the combination of poor editing and the leading lady's annoying behaviour in the beginning of the story made it hard to root for her. That being said, the writing was good enough that I finished the story. That left me with another disappointment. No HEA. We fast forwarded from the wedding to her having already had several children, but the throne being in jeopardy. Sorry, but I won't be picking up the next book.

I usually read hot and steamy books so I didn't meant to read this book since is written for teenagers. I see it first on my younger sister Kindle app and since she was talking about it all the time I read it too. I really loved Qloy but she and the boys seam too mature for the young age they are suppose to be. Even more schoking was that such young persons immediately produce 3 children at this young age. But I really enjoyed this book. I didn't enjoy a book like this one in so long. Very interesting and we'll written book. I recommend it.

Boy what a ride as Princess Qloey goes about trying to choose her Royal Emporer. The competition ends up being harder for Qloey as dangerous plots, death threats, intimidation and more unsavory things happen to make her choice of husband and to dissuade Qloey’s ascension to rule. But as the competition advances, Qloey makes strong, beneficial friendships with some of the contestants all while falling in love with others. Good read.

This story could not have been better; and through the experiences of the princess, provided many life lessons. Young men and young women will both gain by reading this fantasy adventure. The fact that the supposedly spoiled princess is actually being plotted against from within the palace, and controlled by overbearing parents, means that her life may depend on who she chooses as a prince consort. She learns about good and bad rulership, and foreign affairs and wars, by dealing with princes from her own country and other lands - and a token commoner young man is included.

I like that illustrations are provided.
I would love to follow more adventures in this series. This is an unbiased review.

An interesting story about a princess needing to choose a husband - there are many vying for the spot - human, dwarf, elves and of course an evil queen as a mother.

Unlike much fantasy, this book does not attempt to explain the mechanics of the “magical” occurrences, so it is easy to suspend disbelief and enjoy the story.
