A Banker for Bethany: Mail-Order Papa Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 159 ratings

A city man ready to make his way to the west to plant his roots, a woman requiring a strong helping hand, and an arrangement of marriage perfectly timed.

Danger lurks in the shadows of the small South Dakota town of Sioux Falls, as Bethany awaits the arrival of her husband-to-be. Time is running out and she’ll lose everything if Thomas doesn’t come through—will he be everything he claimed to be, or will misunderstanding sabotage the match before the flame is even lit?

Thomas Rose, a young banker from Boston—neither a rose nor a thorn. “I hope she can cook.”

Bethany Hamilton, a young woman with two small sisters to mind. “There goes another batch of burnt biscuits.”

A sweet and clean stand-alone in the historical Mail Order Papa Series.

This is a fun tale of three young ladies that recently lost both parents. They are having making ends meet so Bethany writes for a groom. She is tormented by a brute of a man that wants her for his own and to send her sisters to an orphanage. Thomas is their hero. You Will enjoy discovering how they find their happily ever after.

This was one that I wouldn't take the time later down road to reread. It filled the time but was foreboding. The characters weren't fully developed and the scene was developed with a sense of dread that didn't even have a border of hope. There wasn't even a pinch of God's mercy and grace, no hopefull prayers.

Bethany Hamilton finds herself running the house and taking care of her two younger sisters when her mother passes and her dad leaves town. She decides that she needs to do something with her future so she puts an advertisement out for a mail order husband. Thomas Rose is a banker who moves to the west to start up a new bank and marry Bethany. This was a clean historical read about finding love during hardship.

Life has been hard since Bethany’s mother died and her father abandoned her and her two young sisters. Up until now, she has concealed the truth of their circumstances from the town. Now, in danger of homelessness, Bethany places an ad for a husband and a young banker responds. Will he be her salvation or her downfall?

This is a sweet romance with lovable characters. I enjoyed the storyline of this clean, western romance. I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary.

One of the things I liked, in this, is that even evil, or maybe a better term is... slimy? Certainly opportunistic, and questionable legally and morally, character(s) can have redeeming qualities. This is (mostly) true in real life. Anyhow, was fun to read. Occasionally had a bit of an issue with rising blood pressure. (OK not really. Just got into the story.) Check it out! A sample won't get you to the more 'exciting' areas, I guess I could say, but you would get a good feel for it overall.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good all round but needed more story

What I read was good, the storyline, the characters and the writing. However it was too short and not enough happened. There were a couple of minor skirmishes with the villain who redeemed himself very quickly. A bit more intimacy would have been good e.g. some hugs or cuddles - nothing too explicit. At one point Bethany and Thomas had just kissed a few times and in the next she was pregnant.

I liked that it was reversed from the usual mail order bride story and the man traveled to meet the lady.
