About the author

I am a mother of four and a grandmother of ten, and I am also a Multi-Award-Winning Best-Selling Author! My books have received 107 National and International awards in 2011-2023.. My newest children's book, "My Fingerpaint Masterpiece Coloring Book" has just been released and is a coloring book version of my award-winning "My Fingerpaint Masterpiece". It uses the theme of the infamous 'Emperor's New Clothes' to emphasize the theme of art is in the eye of the beholder! My previous release is the still available "My Little Angel Coloring Book", dedicated to our son KC who passed in 2022, and who is now our special angel. It is a great introduction to pre-schoolers, dealing with issues such as getting ready for school, crossing in cross-walks, being kind to friends, learning lessons, fastening seatbelts, stranger danger, and more - all of which accompanied by illustrations for the child to color. It follows "The Golden Rule Coloring Book", already an award-winner, which is a coloring book version of the best-selling The Golden Rule. The fourth coloring book version is the "Peter and the Whimper-Whineys Coloring Book" which is a coloring book version of my still available best-selling "Peter and the Whimper-Whineys" and has already received several awards including First Place in the FAPA Awards, Gold in Book Excellence Awards and an H.M.in the Royal Dragonfly and Purple Dragonfly Awards for Children's Activity Book. "David's ADHD", is a recipient of 13 Awards including a Gold medal in the Book Excellence Awards, 1st place in Purple Dragonfly plus an HM, Gold Medal in FAPA Awards,1st Place the Purple Dragonfly Awards plus H.M.in a 2nd category, 2 Silver medals from Feathered Quill, Winner of Barefoot Librarian Award plus Silver medal in Reviewer's Choice, Bronze Medal in eLit Awards, and a Pinnacle Achievement Award. My poetry book, " A Dime is a Sign" has already won 10 Awards in Feathered Quill, Reader Views and Pinnacle Achievement, Book Excellence,FAPA President's, Global eBook, Readers Favorite, New Apple Summer eBook, Royal Dragonfly and TopShelf Winner - and is a companion volume to my first book of poetry "A Penny for Your Thoughts" which has been released in hard cover as well as soft cover and eBook and has won 12 Awards: Gold Medals: Feathered Quill Awards, Reader Views Reviewers Choice, Reader Views Innovative Poetry, Los Angeles Book Festival, eLit Book Awards, New Apple eBook and New Apple Book, Top Shelf Winner and Pinnacle Achievement, and won the Silver Medal in the FAPA Awards and the Bronze in the Global eBook Awards. "My Little Angel"has won a Gold Medal in the Global eBook Awards, Bronze Medal in the Feathered Quill Awards, a Royal Dragonfly HM, a New Apple Book Finalist, a Readers' Favorite Finalist Award and a Pinnacle Achievement Award. "The Golden Rule" has won a Gold Book Excellence Award, a Gold eLit Award, Silver Reviewers' Choice Medal, a IAN Book of the Year Finalist, a Mom's Choice Award, a Children's Literary Classics Silver Medal plus Seal of Approval, and a Pinnacle Achievement Award. "Mice & Spiders & Webs...Oh My!" has won a Global eBook Gold medal, a FAPA Awards Bronze medal, Reader Views Reviewers Choice HM as well as a Readers' Favorites HM Award in Children's Educational, and also a Pinnacle Achievement award... What an amazing time!!! My website is www.sherrillcannon.com
I have been writing poetry since before I could write! (My mother wrote down the poetry I wrote as a four-year-old.) I have written ten published rhymed children's stories, two poetry books, and three coloring books, as well as seven published rhymed musical plays for elementary school children, which have been performed internationally in over 20 countries. I love to write. My friends and family ask me if I think in rhyme and meter, and I have to admit that sometimes this is true!
Most of my books try to teach something, like good manners and caring for others. "Santa's Birthday Gift" is an attempt to include Santa in the meaning of Christmas. (After I read a story of the nativity to my young granddaughter, she looked at me and asked "But where's Santa?") The story is best for ages 3-9, to be read to children who still believe in Santa!
"Peter and the Whimper-Whineys" is designed to help parents cope with whining and complaining children. Peter is a small rabbit who does nothing but whine. His mother warns him that if he keeps on whining and crying, he'll have to go live with the Whimper-Whineys. His nocturnal adventures convince him his mother was right! If only he can get back home... A review editor for this story wrote: "I cannot imagine any parent or guardian not wanting to read this book to their child!...Parents everywhere applaud you!"
"Peter and the Whimper-Whineys Coloring Book" as well as "The Golden Rule Coloring Book" and "My Little Angel Coloring Book", are replicas of the above books, with the illustrations traced so they are colorable.
"The Magic Word" is a story of a little girl who has to learn to say Please! It stresses the importance of good manners and thinking of others.
"Gimme-Jimmy", is a story about how a bully learns to share, and seems to have become popular quickly! Jimmy's New Polite Rule stresses thinking of others and being polite.
"Manner-Man" is about a Superhero who helps children cope with bullies, and look within themselves for their own inner superhero. It incorporates many of the characters in m previous books, as well as their character traits. Consideration for others is a constant theme!
"My Fingerpaint Masterpiece" deals with perspective, perception and self-esteem as a child paints artwork in class, and later discovers it as part of the town's Art Contest
"Mice & Spiders & Webs...Oh My!" is story that illustrates the importance of being a good listener. It also is a cute introduction to basic computer terms.
"The Golden Rule" shows children how to be kind, and to imagine how wonderful it would be if everyone followed the Golden Rule: Treat others the way you'd like to be treated.
"My Little Angel" is about the day in the life of a small child who has a little guardian angel named Angela sitting on her shoulder and guiding her through her day. With an angel on your shoulder, you are never alone!
"A Penny for Your Thoughts" is not a children's book, but it is a poetry book of feelings - of love and friendship and all various associated emotions.
"A Dime is a Sign" is a companion volume of poetry to A Penny for Your Thoughts, with similar content and layout - all about feelings into words!
"David's ADHD" is designed to help children with ADHD learn to manage their behavior issues and become accepted in the classroom...and make friends!
"Peter and the Whimper-Whineys Coloring Book", "The Golden Rule Coloring Book", "My Little Angel Coloring Book" and the new "My Fingerpaint Masterpiece Coloring Book" are all coloring book versions of the original books above, but with the illustrations traced so that youngsters (and oldsters) can color them creatively.
Here's a little bit of my background: A real-live Eloise, I grew up in the Willard Hotel in Washington DC (my Dad was the manager), was married and lived in Northern Virginia for twenty years where my husband and I raised our four children. We later moved to Bucks County (Philadelphia PA suburbs) where we lived for 14 years before moving to the Binghamton NY area for 18 years, and in 2013 finally moved back to Bucks County PA. We will celebrated our 62nd wedding anniversary in June! We are now retired, and are snowbirds, traveling in our RV from Florida to Pennsylvania and back. I have had a varied career: I was a teacher and coach for ten years in the Washington DC area, and then became a "stay-at-home-Mom" who in my spare-time was a professional newspaper sports photographer and columnist for several years when our boys were playing competitive soccer. When our girls became interested in theater, I became a Dinner Theatre Company Stage Manager (as well as lighting and sound technician) and also was an Assistant Talent Manager for Cathy Parker Talent when our youngest daughter was doing commercials and professional modeling in NYC. When we relocated to the Binghamton NY area, I became the Business Administrator for a software development company handling payroll and contracts. Now I have time to write, when I'm not marketing (which is the other half of writing.) I spent many years collaborating with my daughter on rhymed musical plays for her elementary school, and now seven of our plays, "Have You Seen My Little Lamb", "The King's Spell","When You Wish Upon a Star...fish", "The Wonderful World of Weather", "ABC December" , "The Alphabet Trip" and "We Have Character" are available at Lazy Bee Scripts - www.lazybeescripts.co.uk. The plays have already had many performances in over 20 countries including the United States and the United Kingdom, as well as Australia, Austria, Botswana, Cambodia, Canada, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Philippines, Poland, Singapore, Spain, and the United Arab Emirates. I am trying to "make a difference".

- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2019Award winning author, Sherrill Cannon, rhymes her way into a child's heart in this adorable story, My Little Angel. Children read about the tiny angel, Angela, who stresses the importance of good manners and being polite. The little angel teaches many good lessons helping children stay safe. As a Reading Specialist for elementary aged children, I highly recommend this book which provides picture support with lovely illustrations, and rhyming words which encourages children to rhyme. The book also includes questions which promotes good discussions. My Little Angel definitely complements any early education classroom library. I bought this book for my niece to help her build a children's library for her new born baby. She loved it! Any child or adult will want to read this lovely rhyming story with beautiful illustrations over and over again!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2019It has been awhile since I have read and reviewed one of Sherrill Cannon's books, I am so glad I have for today. As with all her books, there are lessons to be learned that children as well as adults should get. This time the author approaches the subject of doing the right things. The "moral" compass is directed by the angel, Angela, who helps the girl take care of herself, her pets, and others.
As with all the books I have read from this author, her poetry is top notch and the illustrations that go with it always match well. Her illustrator is fantastic and she uses the same one throughout all of her books which brings a consistency and one I have come to expect.
In the back of the book she notes that she has hidden some of her previous books within the pages. She invites the reader to see if they can be found. This too is a consistency throughout her books and I enjoy (as kids would) looking for the hidden books. There are also questions to help the reader come to fully understand the theme of the book. The questions are well thought out and purposely directed. I know that this comes from the years of teaching the author did.
Once again this is a book that should be on the "must read" list.
5 stars from me!

- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2018"My Little Angel" is a very cool children's book because it is not religious has a much broader appeal: the Little Angel is a kind of a "mini advisor" who encourages children to do the right thing, and praises them in an affirming way. Children can learn that they don't have to rely on mom's or dad's praise but that their "imaginary advisor supports them.
I like that, a lot. Let's face it, these days moms and dads are busy hence it can only help to have an imaginary supporter.
Author Sherrill Cannon mentions all the do's and don'ts, including my favorite:
"...When I ride in cars, I sit in the back, And Angela fastens my belt with a clack..."
That's just a perfect way to put because the wording encourages children to "be grown-ups" and do what angels do.
Adorable illustrations!
5 stars, Grandma Gisela Hausmann
- Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2017A charming faith-based children's book that illustrates a little girl being guided by her guardian angel, Angela.
Positive messages of kindness, patience, and a great work ethic are all modeled beautifully. I enjoyed the pacing of this book to walk through a typical day in the life of a child and all the positive choices she made when faced with a decision.
The author is also a teacher who supports and understands how to teach literacy skills with her books.
There are comprehension and reflection questions at the end of the book which can be used in a guided reading group, or at home to encourage reading aloud with your children.
Half of the proceeds from this book are donated healthcare and Bullying Prevention charities; another wonderful reason to support the philanthropy of this amazing author.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2017My Little Angel, by Sherrill S. Cannon, was a lovely get-well gift. A charmingly told rhyming story about a little girl who has an angel named Angela that sits upon her shoulder. Angela, whispers in her ear and helps her remember all the good things she needs to learn as she moves through life.
It is a remarkable little book that would delight any child, while teaching the lessons of kindness, responsibility and all the things parents try to instill in their small children.
Ms. Cannon, has outdone herself once again with this remarkable little book aimed at gracefully helping adults teach such important lessons in life.
I loved this little book and will read it many times, before passing it down to the next generation.
Adorable, Charming, Delightful all in one little book, what more can one ask for?
Thank you, Sherrill Cannon, for writing it! Highly Recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2017My favorite children's books are rhyming books, and Sherrill Cannon once again in "My Little Angel" has created a masterpiece. The story is uplifting, the illustrations are beautiful, and it's one of those books where you feel good all over when you finish it. You want to linger on the words, the message, and read it again and again. The story is biblical, where the young girl has an angel who protects her and helps her throughout the day. Prayer, self-worth, kindness, gratitude, and love are recurring themes and make this a wonderful book to share and read to young children. "My Little Angel" is a great addition to children's literature and I'm sure it will win many awards in the years to come.
